The congresswoman is getting better every day — and is evencanoodling with her husband!

Rep. Gabrielle Giffords, 40, took giant steps toward recovery this weekend –  she is now able to breathe on her own and has had her health condition upgraded from “critical” to “serious.”

The Associated Press reports her condition upgrade was spurred by a successful tracheotomy on Jan. 16, which was accomplished after a feeding tube was administered the day before. Her doctors speculate they will know within a few days if she will regain her ability to speak.

Gabby’s husband Mark Kelly, 47, is thrilled by his wife’s progress, saying, “(It is) so typical of her. She’s in the ICU. You know, gone through this traumatic injury. And she spent 10 minutes giving me a neck massage. I keep tellin’ her. I’m like, ‘Gabby, you’re in the ICU. You know, you don’t need — you know, you don’t need to be doin’ this.’ But it’s so typical of her that no matter how bad the situation might be for her, you know, she’s lookin’ out for other people.”

This recovery is amazing news and we are thrilled her love for her husband is keeping her alive!
