I think it is great when women in power use their wardrobes as another means of showing their personalities to the public — like First Lady Michelle Obama whose fashion forward style speaks to her modernity and independence. However, when that voice may be saying something like, “I have the same maturity level as my 10 year old who also had polka dot nails,” I don’t quite feel the same!Sarah Palin was spotted in Iowa this past weekend with some interesting looking black and white polka-dot toenails. I am usually all about fun and funky nails, but for teens and girls in their 20′s — not 47 year-old former governors!

Suri Cruise is a fashion icon — even if she’s only 5-years-old. So, it’s not too surprising that the petite princess opted to paint her finger and toe nails different colors, obviously to spark a discussion on mani/pedi etiquette.

Some people believe that your nail polish should match on your hands and feet, while others have an ‘anything goes‘ type of policy. Unless you’re doing deep reds or wine colors — mismatch away!

And that’s exactly what Suri did — she opted for a hot pink manicure and a teal green pedicure. Weird combination, but hey it works! Oh, and it matches her awesome Barbie umbrella.

A new ad for the clothing franchise shows a top designer painting her son’s toenails neon pink — and it has parents and doctors outraged! What’s your take?

A glimpse of this new J.Crew ad entitled “Saturday with Jenna,” featuring J.Crew president and creative director Jenna Lyons and her 5-year-old son Beckett, has kicked off a fierce debate. The image was emailed to customers highlights some of Jenna’s favorite products, including the hot pink Essie nail polish she is applying to her son’s toenails. It has sparked discussion over gender identity in children, but what do you think of it?

“Lucky for me, I ended up with a boy whose favorite color is pink,” Jenna writes in the ad, “Toenail painting is way more fun in neon.”

A number of psychatrists have slammed the ad, saying it “celebrates transgendered identity,” but Jo B. Paoletti, author of “Pink and Blue: Telling the Girls From the Boys in America” fires back at critics saying, “Lots of kids, say seven and under, might ask their parents for something that would seem to be cross gender, and I think most parents, especially in the privacy of their own home might think, what’s the big deal?”

Gwen Stefani and Gavin Rossdale‘s boys, Kingston, 4, and Zuma, 2, have been seen out and about with painted nails and have even been photographed getting mani/pedis. So what’s the big deal? “There’s no reason to hurry the gender-role process along,” child psychologist Dr. Jeff Gardere tells HollyBaby.com. “It only creates confusion in the child’s mind and adds unnecessary pressure at a young age.”

But, some people are not fans of boys painting their nails, pink or not.

“This is a dramatic example of the way that our culture is being encouraged to abandon all trappings of gender identity,” psychiatrist Dr. Keith Ablow writes in a FoxNews.com health column. And the Media Research Center’s Erin Brown adds, “J.Crew, known for its tasteful and modest clothing, apparently does not mind exploiting Beckett behind the facade of liberal, transgendered identity politics.”

It looks like Zuma Rossdale might be sick! The 2-year-old tyke went to the doctor’s with his mom Gwen Stefani, 41, on Feb. 3, his second time this week. But although the tiny tyke was a little sad about his doctor’s visit, he was more than happy to show off his manicure! Do your boys like to get their nails done?

When we first spotted Zuma’s older brother Kingston, 4½, sporting a multi-colored manicure we asked an expert what he thought of young boys pampering their cuticles. “At this age, the parents of these children are making the decisions for them,” child psychologist Dr. Jeff Gardere tells HollyBaby.com. “But as children grow up and ask for treatments such as manicures, even if they’re male, parents should allow them to do it.”
