You can’t forget Matthew McConaughey’s character Dallas, the charismatic, leather-loving, strip club-owning male stripper who stole the screen in Magic Mike.

As for what made Dallas stand out to us, we could say Matthew’s great skills as an actor, or the character’s complexity, but let’s be honest — it was the thong.

And now Matthew has revealed to HollywoodLife.com exclusively how he picked it out!

Matthew McConaughey’s ‘Magic Mike’ Costume: A Whole Lotta Leather

“We found this sort of obsessed, but comedic route by a guy who was taking himself very seriously,” Matthew said of his character. Which led to the more important question — what kind of thong was this comedically serious guy going to wear?

“There were week-long talks about the right thong,” Matthew said. “I brought up Jim Morrison, and he [Christopher Peterson, Magic Mike costume designer] was like, ‘Leathers — leather pants.’ Once we found the leathers, and they fit, we were like, ‘That’s a stalemate. That is what Dallas has on all the time.’”

We agree that the leather outfit seemed stuck to (well, not exactly) Dallas in Magic Mike. The leather pants, the leather vest, the leather thong — they’re all so HIM!

Matthew McConaughey Wins At The Independent Spirit Awards

For his efforts, Matthew was awarded the Best Supporting Actor at the Independent Spirit Awards on Feb. 23. The man behind Dallas also told HollywoodLife.com why he loves independent films, and making unique movies like Magic Mike.

Because of the smaller budgets, Matthew said, “you’re forced to come together and make it happen. And there’s something that’s fun about the construction of making a movie. That’s my favorite thing, is the making of an independent film.”

Joseph Gordon-Levitt left nothing to the imagination during the Sept. 22 episode of Saturday Night Live — he stripped Magic Mike style!

The former 3rd Rock From The Sun actor started his opening monologue by announcing that Channing Tatum’s blockbuster was one of the biggest movies of 2012.

Joseph then ripped of his jacket and shirt to reveal a skimpier outfit before he started grinding with an umbrella to the tune of “It’s Raining Men.”

Jenna Dewan-Tatum isn’t always on our red carpet radar, but she certainly put her best foot forward while supporting her hubby, Channing Tatum! The star stunned in a gorgeous J. Mendel strapless cocktail dress with folded details.

Jenna accessorized the sexy mini with Koomi earrings, nude Christian Louboutin pumps and a Le Vian ring for some bling. She finished the look with a popping red lip and gorgeous curls.

Channing may be a hottie, but Jenna was definitely the one who stole our attention on the red carpet!

Channing Tatum and Alex Pettyfer may be BFFs in Magic Mike, but according to a new report the two would get into screaming matches when the cameras weren’t rolling.

“They had massive fights on set,” a source told US Weekly. “Alex was a jerk to everyone during filming for no reason. He thinks he’s the star of the movie, not Channing or Matthew McConaughey.”

The fighting was so bad, according to the report, that Channing, 32, — star and co-producer of the film — reportedly cut Alex, 22, out of a scene which Alex “went on a rampage about.”

Their heated fights is the reason why they haven’t done any press appearances together, according to the report.

Sheesh! And we thought girls were bad!

Let’s hear it for the… girls?

I’d like to see Deniece Williams remake “Let’s Hear It For The Boy” — 2012-style — because modern day women are embarking on a new sexual revolution and pop culture has proved to be on board for the wild ride.

50 Shades of Grey has sparked worldwide controversy because of its sexually explicit content, and Magic Mike — starring Channing Tatum — is all about male strippers! And the best part is women of all ages aren’t embarrassed to shout from the mountain top that that’s the book they’re reading or the movie they can’t wait to see this summer.

This is a new kind of sexual revolution. For once women can be open about exploring their sexuality — specifically through pop culture — and aren’t looked down upon. Women of all ages are reading 50 Shades Of Grey. When I visited my grandparents in South Florida, almost every old lady at the country club was reading the erotic novel! And nobody gossiped negatively about it.

The new HBO show GIRLS is also very telling about where women stand with their sexuality today. Lena Dunham plays Hannah, a 24-year-old Brooklynite, who has casual sex with a guy who disappears on her, makes crude comments and no attempt to properly date her (until the end), and still ends up in his bed, naked. Some may argue that Hannah has low self-esteem, but I think she just wanted someone to have sex with. Men do it and women should be able to do it too — without being judged by society and their peers.

Women have been sexually objectified for years. And while it’s always been OK for men to be more open about their sexuality than women, now is the time for women to do the same. And clearly our culture is supporting it with books like 50 Shades of Grey and movies like Magic Mike breaking records.

I’d say it’s a pretty great time to be a woman! Go out and read 50 Shades on the beach and gather your girlfriends to oogle at Channing’s hot body in Magic Mike. Betty Friedan would be proud!

Matthew McConaughey is absolutely gorgeous in person and funny too! HollywoodLife.com attended the star-studded premiere of his new film Bernie in NYC on April 23 and he told us how he prepared for his role as a stripper alongside Channing Tatum in the upcoming flick Magic Mike.

“We went by one male revue strip club in New Orleans,” he told us at the film screening sponsored by Quintessentially and Asahi. “I was there for about an hour and that was enough.”

But Matthew says that he isn’t only planning on doing adult films, he’s in the midst of writing a kids’ movie!

“I’ve got one that I’m writing right now,” he says. “Kids are like, ‘I love planes and I love dragons and I love lions.’ All of a sudden, they have a lion that they say can fly but then can walk through the city like a lady but then can swim underwater like a fish but can fly like a plane.’”

Following the movie, guests headed over to NYC’s Lilium for the exclusive after-party, where they sipped on Asahi beer.

Channing Tatum isn’t shy about his pre-Hollywood life as a stripper. In fact, he’s proud of it! And he’s showing off the skills that made him a sexy sensation in his new movie Magic Mike, which also stars Matthew McConaughey and Alex Pettyfer as — what else — strippers!

Also starring Olivia Munn and Cody Horn, the movie tells the story of a stripper who learns there’s more to life than being — as Zoolander put it so eloquently — “really, really ridiculously good looking.”

Our only complaint about the first official trailer is that it fails to showcase some of the other guys we’re excited about, including True Blood‘s Joe Manganiello and White Collar‘s Matt Bomer. We’d take either one of them over 1,000 Alex Pettyfers any day.
