Most Lifetime movies tell twisted tales of relationships gone wrong — but Maeve Quinlan‘s new thriller, Teenage Bank Heist, isn’t one of them. Premiering Nov. 9 at 9 p.m., the movie tells the real-life story of a bank teller whose teenage daughter Cassie (Abbie Cobb) is taken captive during a heist. But there’s a twist: Cassie may have inadvertently helped the bank robbers!

“It’s not your typical Lifetime movie,” Maeve tells HollywoodLife.com, “and I like that they’re really taking a chance and doing something completely different.

Maeve also applauds the film’s mostly-female cast, noting that she was particularly blown away by Abbie, Cassi Thomson and Rosa Blasi‘s performances.

“Don’t get me wrong; there are men in the movie, and they’re fantastic,” she assures us. “But it really is a female-driven movie.”

Interestingly enough, Maeve didn’t know Teenage Bank Heist was based on a true story until after she finished filming it. So without a real-life person to emulate, Maeve instead drew inspiration from he own recent tragedies, including the recent loss of her father.

“If someone told me I could see my father again, like, get out of my way,” she explained. “There’s nothing I wouldn’t do to see him, so that was my mindset for the character. There’s nothing she won’t do to get her daughter back.”

When she’s not portraying horrific tragedies come-to-life, Maeve is the Hollywood Ambassador for Go Girl Energy Drink, a female-oriented beverage that gives year-round to breast and ovarian cancer research and awareness.

Maeve describes her role as both “passionate and personal,” as her own mother is 14 years in remission from ovarian cancer. She also has a close friend who lost her sister to breast cancer at 16. Additionally, her best friend and former college roommate, Shannon Deary-Bell, serves as the company’s CEO.

Last month, Maeve honored an impressive list of female celebrities — many of whom are her personal friends — for being inspirational and using their fame to affect the world in a positive way. Among those honored were Gwen Stefani, Courteney Cox, Emma Stone, Ellen DeGeneres, Reese Witherspoon and Christina Applegate.

Maeve is also the creator/producer of ABC Family’s Beverly Hills Nannies, which is expected to return for a second season after performing extremely well in its freshman run.
