Madeleine McCann could be in fact be alive, UK police said on April 25. The London Metropolitan Police decided to re-open the case and are currently investigating the disappearance of the little girl who went missing from a condo at a resort in Portugal, in May 2007. 

A new image has been released by the police of what Madeleine would look like today as a 9-year-old. Her family cooperated with the authorities, CBS News reports.

More than 30 police officers have been assigned to the case, Detective Chief Inspector Andy Redwood said in a press conference. So far 40,000 pieces of evidence have been gathered for the team to investigate — 195 possible leads have been followed up, he added.

He explained that police are considering Madeleine alive despite the fact that she may be dead.

“We would like the case to be reopened; our case is clear,” he told reporters. “I should stress quite clearly that the decision is in Portugal.”

The forensic evidence from her disappearance shows that she could have been kidnapped by criminals, yet there are no definite indications of what really happened to Madeleine. The case has cost $3.2 million, so far police said.

Her parents Kate McCann and Gery McCann have upheld a campaign to keep the public aware of the case — they even published a book and went on the Oprah Winfrey Show to share their story.

Investigators have flown to India to track down a girl matching Maddie’s description and run a DNA test to discover if they have finally found the missing child.

Madeleine McCann disappeared from her parents’ vacation apartment in Portugal in May 2007, just days before her fourth birthday. Her parents Gerry and Kate McCann have never given up faith that they’ll find their daughter alive and have worked tirelessly over the last four years on a worldwide campaign to spread the word about missing Maddie. This sighting must give them fresh hope!According to the Chandigarh Tribune newspaper, a British tourist spotted the girl in the town of Leh. The woman was so convinced she had found Madeleine, she alerted other tourists and American visitor even tried to snatch the girl from the Belgian man and French woman who insisted they were her parents. The police intervened and made copies of the couple’s passports so they could be traced.

Indian police are now discussing how to proceed with the investigation with British authorities and investigators hired by the McCanns.

A spokesperson for Maddie’s parents explains, “Our private investigators are aware of the reports from India over the weekend about a possible sighting of Madeleine.”

“We are liaising with the Indian authorities over the incident and await the results of the DNA test.”

The sighting comes just two months after the fourth anniversary of Maddie’s disappearance, which was marked by the release of a book written by Kate, called Madeleine, Our Daughter’s Disappearance And The Continuing Search For Her.

The same month British Prime Minister David Cameron reopened the investigation into her disappearance, hoping for a “new perspective” to the case.

Let’s hope something results from this sighting and Maddie is finally found!

The McCanns promise to never give up the search for their daughter as they release their new book, ‘Madeleine,’ today, Maddy’s birthday.

Maddy McCann, who went missing from her British family’s rental apartment in Praia de Luz, Portugal at 10 p.m. on May 3, 2007, turns 8 years old today. And her parents, Kate and Gerry McCann, are renewing their hope that they will find their daughter and bring her home.

In her book, simply titled Madeleine, Kate recalls the moment she realized her then four-year-old daughter was gone. Seeing the windows open and Maddy’s bed empty, Kate writes that she felt “nausea, terror, disbelief, fear. Icy fear,” and said to herself, “Dear God, no! Please, no!”

Maddy’s disappearance, which has captivated people around the world, is told through the eyes of her mother, who has been working on the book for the past year.

“We hope and pray that it will bring us the result we long for and that not only the book but this whole ordeal and heartache will be behind us before too much longer,” Kate writes on the Find Madeleine website.

All proceeds from the book will benefit Madeleine’s Fund, which Kate and Gerry use to finance their ongoing investigation into the mystery.

Four years after the 3-yr-old disappeared from her parents’ hotel room in Portugal, a private detective now says she may have been kidnapped, then smuggled into the US by pedophiles. So scary.

Gorgeous little Madeleine McCann was just 3-years-old when she disappeared from her family’s room in a posh Portuguese resort as her parents dined in a nearby restaurant. Now, a private detective investigating the case for the British family tells OK! magazine that the little girl may have been kidnapped and smuggled into the United States by an organized pedophile ring. The investigator, Marcelino Italiano, also says that he believes Maddy is alive!

Marcelino believes that “two prominent Portuguese businessmen with links to the country’s judiciary were involved in her disappearance in May 3, 2007.” He says these men have ties to a ring of pedophiles that has been responsible for the kidnapping of more than a dozen children. “They need to be exposed.”

U.S. officials say it’s possible that Maddy is being held captive here. “It it very possible she could be in this country,” Devorah Levine, manager of Contra Costa County’s Zero Tolerance for Domestic Violence Initiative in California. “The problem is that it’s extremely difficult to find these people. Traffickers now operate with such sophistication, things are always being moved around.” So scary.

“We are grateful for the information,” Maddy’s parents, Kate and Gerry McCann said in a statement. They are now focusing on exploring these new claims. You won’t be forgotten, Maddy!
