Nick Carter is mourning his younger sister Leslie Carter‘s death in an interesting way. The 32-year-old singer wasn’t invited to her funeral Jan. 5, so instead he spent the night after the Super Bowl partying in Boston, which is where he’s performing tonight.

Nick told TMZ how much he regretted missing Leslie’s service, but said he wasn’t invited.

“I wanted to be at my sister’s funeral, but my family has always had a complicated dynamic,” he explained.

“There are so many emotions for me surrounding the loss of my sister,” Nick said. “I am trying to stay healthy, positive, and focused.”

We hope he doesn’t channel his grief through partying. Our thoughts go out to Nick and his family during this difficult time.

Although it was reported today that Nick Carter, 32, was unable to attend sister Leslie Carter‘s funeral due to touring commitments, Nick tells TMZ that he was purposely kept out of the loop.

“I wanted to be at my sister’s funeral, but my family has always had a complicated dynamic,” he says.

And although the Backstreet Boy didn’t get into specifics, he’s convinced that his family made a concerted effort to keep him from knowing about the service.

“There are so many emotions for me surrounding the loss of my sister,” Nick states. “I am trying to stay healthy, positive, and focused.”

While most people were preparing for Super Bowl Sunday, the Carters quietly buried their daughter and sister who died last week from a purported overdose to prescription pills, reports E! Online.

The burial, which had around 65 people in attendance, took place at 4pm at Freay Funeral Home in Mayville, N.Y., near her father’s home where her body was discovered on Jan. 31.

“It was a very wonderful and touching ceremony,” an insider told E!.

Among the mourners, Leslie’s mother Jane and brother Aaron were present.

“The truth will reveal itself,” Aaron tweeted on the morning of Feb. 5 before the service. “I Love you Leslie soo very very very very very much!! virtually no words. You will always be my best friend.”

While it’s a fact that Leslie Carter, 25, died of a drug overdose on Jan. 31, what drove her to do so is unclear. A source, however, tells People that her envy to be in the limelight was a major reason she fell into a downward spiral.

“She thought she would become the next famous Carter sibling,” states a former manager to one of her brothers.

Although Leslie “loved the attention” she received from the family’s brief stint with reality on E!’s House of Carters and had a single released on Shrek 3‘s soundtrack, fame didn’t hit her the way it did with older brother Nick, 32, and younger bro, Aaron Carter, 22.

“She was always happy for her brothers, don’t get me wrong,” the source says. “But it was tough for her.”

Regardless, Leslie’s stepmom, Ginger, believes she had much darker issues to deal with, claiming the young mom “had a long history of mental illness and was on medication for her depression.”

Leslie Carter‘s death devastated her family, and now the just-released police report says the cause of her death was indeed a drug overdose.

Leslie, who was 25, was described in police reports as having a history of mental health issues and was on medication for depression, Us Weekly reports.

Her stepmother, Ginger Carter, called 911 on Jan. 31 from their New York home while her father Robert Carter gave Leslie CPR. Ginger reported that her stepdaughter was “asleep on her bed and not breathing.”

Before her death, Leslie’s family said she felt sick and appeared depressed. At the time of her passing, her body was surrounded by several prescription drugs which treat mental health issues ranging from schizophrenia to anxiety.

Leslie Carter seemed to have it all: a devoted husband, a darling 10-month-old girl and a famous family. But a source tells HollywoodLife.com that the fame tore Leslie’s family apart and that she grew distant from her siblings over the past several years.

“Leslie was depressed,” a source tells us. “She was battling a major addiction and yes, it was a surprise when she suddenly died. But before anyone even said what caused it, everyone thought the same thing. She battled a prescription drug addiction for a while.  Some think that she was even battling from postpartum depression, too.”

Leslie, 25, was one of five kids — Nick, Bobbie Jean, Aaron Carter and his twin sister Angel Carter.

“Everyone in that family is trying to make it in Hollywood and it caused jealousy and pitted some of them against each other,” our source says. “When Leslie got married, several members of her family didn’t even attend. Close friends definitely find it strange that Nick isn’t taking time off to go be with his family and he’s instead performing in NYC — even though he did dedicate his tour to her. Many think the way the family is handling it is very bizarre.”

We spoke to the Coroner’s Office on Feb. 1 and they told HollywoodLife.com that they released Leslie’s body to the family and that the autopsy was complete. Funeral arrangements for Leslie have yet to be announced. The toxicology report could take four to six weeks for the results.

Leslie Carter‘s sudden death has left her family in shock, especially after it was revealed that she reportedly succumbed to drug addiction. Now her brother Aaron Carter is speaking out about the devastating loss.

Leslie Carter‘s death shocked fans of the talented family, and now new reports are surfacing that her troubles with prescription drugs could be to blame.

Leslie, who was 25, had allegedly moved to upstate New York with family in order to beat her addiction, TMZ reports.

Family members say Leslie seemed to be doing better in recent weeks, but when they left her alone for an hour to run some errands on Jan. 31, they found her unconscious upon returning home.

Leslie Carter was found dead on Jan. 31 and friends close to the family tell HollywoodLife.com that they are ‘shocked’ by her untimely passing. The Coroner’s Office tells us that it will take four to six weeks until the toxicology report is complete and that’s when we’ll have some answers as to her cause of death.

The younger sister of the Backstreet Boys star Nick Carter was found dead in upstate New York and a source tells us she was visiting her dad. Leslie resided in Canada, which is about an hour and a half away from Chautauqua County, New York, where her dad lived.

The county is so small that they don’t have a medical examiner’s office, so the body was sent to the Erie County Medical Examiner’s Office in upstate New York for the autopsy. Her body has been released to the family so that they can organize her funeral arrangements.

We told you that Leslie leaves behind her 10-month-old daughter Alyssa and her husband of three years, Mike Ashton.

Alyssa’s Twitter handle was titled MomAshton and her about me says: “I’m Leslie, I love being a new mom to our wonderful baby girl Alyssa Ashton, and I have a wonderful husband who takes care of his girls. I couldn’t ask for more.”

Nick says in a statement that he’s thankful to those “who have shared their wishes and prayers during this tragic time,” and that he plans to continue with his tour in NYC “as promised.” “Performing is cathartic to me,” he said, “and I am dedicating the rest of my tour to my sister since she loved to watch me perform.”

Leslie appeared alongside her family on the short-lived E! reality series House of Carters, which ran for eight episodes in late 2006.
