Bret Michaels had a whirlwind year! The rocker turned 48 on March 16 and he definitely has a lot to be thankful for. Not only did Bret win Donald Trump‘s Celebrity Apprentice, he survived major surgery after a near-devastating brain hemorrhage. Along with these moments of pain and happiness, Bret also became engaged to his longtime girlfriend Kristi Gibson in December!

Bret Michaels has recovered from his surgery and is headed home! The 47-year-old will be with his family after successfully getting through the procedure to repair his patent foramen ovale (PFO), more commonly referred to as a hole in the heart. Surgery took place near Bret’s Scottsdale, Ariz. home at St. Joseph’s Hospital and Medical Center in Phoenix.
After dating for 16 years, the Poison frontman asked the mother of his two children to be his bride… on national TV!

The 47-year-old rocker shocked his family and friends by proposing to his girlfriend and mother of his two daughters, Kristi Gibson, on the Dec. 20 finale episode of his VH1 reality show Bret Michaels: Life As I Know It. Bret had a tumultuous year with a near-fatal brain hemorrhage in April, and ever since, close friends and family were urging him to pop the question.

A cerebral hemorrhage last spring almost cost Bret Michaels his life, which didn’t just scare him and his girlfriend, Kristi Gibson, but also deeply affected their two daughters, Raine, 10, and 5-year-old Jorja. “After the hemorrhage, I realized how quickly things can be taken away from you. I just said, ‘Oh my God, now I’m really going to try to strive to be a great dad,'” Bret says in an interview in Us magazine. “My kids saved my life, and that is the truth. When I got that headache in April, my family was the first thought I had, so I rushed to the emergency room.”

Just two weeks after rocker Bret Michaels was hospitalized Apr. 21 for a massive subarachnoid brain hemorrhage, he’s been released from the hospital and excepted to reach full recovery! “I opened my eyes, and was like, ‘I am so thankful. I’m lucky to be alive,” Bret told People on May 3. “It just wasn’t my time yet!” Read more
