Disgraced designer John Galliano sent a strong message when he stepped out for the Oscar de la Renta Fall 2013 Fashion Show in NYC on Feb. 12, when he dressed in a Hasidic-inspired outfit. Wearing a hat, (which appears to be from the fall 2013 Galliano menswear collection), and long jacket with his hair curled in what looks like peyos, (or sidelocks), the designer’s outfit resembles traditional, Orthodox Jewish dress. Although he was just given a second chance and welcomed back into the fashion community by Oscar de la Renta, we have to question whether or not he has learned anything from the racist rant that cost him his head couturier post at Dior back in 2011 and shunned him from the fashion industry.

Galliano Was Shunned In 2011:

Galliano was fired from Christian Dior back in 2011 after a video of the designer spewing anti-Semitic remarks at a Paris cafe went viral. Following the release of the video, the designer was convicted of making racist insults and was ultimately shunned by the fashion industry — that is, until last month, when designer Oscar de la Renta offered the disgraced designer a chance to make amends.

Oscar de la Renta Gives Galliano A Second Chance:

de la Renta invited Galliano to work with him in his midtown studio in NYC in January, where he had a hand in the gorgeous Fall 2013 collection that debuted on the runway last night.

While Galliano’s spokeswoman Liz Rosenberg told the NY Post, “Your accusations are not at all correct,” the Hasidic-looking outfit definitely has us questioning Galliano’s efforts to make amends with the Jewish community and the fashion industry. Sure, the designer is known for his eccentric dressing, but this definitely wasn’t the best look for someone trying to make a comeback in NYC.

“If it was just anyone else, I wouldn’t know what to say,” Brooklyn Assemblyman Dov Hikind told the NY Post. “But considering who this guy is, considering his background and what he’s said in the past, let him explain it to all of us: Are you mocking us?”

John Galliano was found guilty of hate crimes for remarks he made on two different occasions and has been fined 6,000 euros (or 8478 dollars at the current conversion rate). He also has to pay one euro to each victim of his crimes as a symbolic act and will be on probation for the next five years. Do YOU think the punishment fits the crime?

He got off fairly easy, not having to spend a minute in jail for his crimes, and his lawyer says that John felt “relieved” after the sentencing.

Though the designer won’t be paying for his inexcusable remarks behind bars, it has yet to be seen if his career will ever recover.

Although John Galliano was fired from Christian Dior back in March after allegations surrounding his anti-Semitic outburst and racist behavior, the French house is still void of a creative leader — but apparently that may change very soon, with Dior in serious talks with Marc Jacobs.

WWD reports that Dior is meeting with the designer’s lawyers in Paris, while Marc is busy in NYC preparing for his highly-anticipated fashion show. According to their sources, both the designer and the fashion house is “excited” about the potential move, which would leave Marc’s seat at Louis Vuitton vacant.

Considering Marc Jacobs is innovative and adored by the masses, (including editors), he just might be what Dior needs after being void of a creative director.

So, what would happen to Marc’s role at LVMH? It’s rumored that Phoebe Philo of Celine is first in line to succeed the designer. Known for her must-have handbags and chic collections, she’s definitely qualified.

Kate Moss is set to wed James Hince tomorrow, and while much speculation surrounds the guest list and the grand affair, it’s nothing compared to all the hype regarding Kate’s wedding dress! British Vogue is reporting that Kate has chosen to wear a dress created by former Dior designer John Galliano.

Kate has had her own tumultuous past with the industry, yet the gorgeous model always manages to bounce back — and it looks like that’s exactly what she’s trying to do for the extremely talented designer who was recently defamed after an anti-Semitic rant and spat at a bar. In court Galliano said he hasn’t worked since losing his post at both his namesake label and Christian Dior — but it looks like that isn’t entirely true! Although he kept a low profile, seeking treatment for his personal struggle with addiction, he made the time to craft the dress Kate will wear when she says ‘I Do.’

As for the rest of the bridal party, her maid of honor Trish Simonon, wife of Clash bassist Paul Simonon, will wear Edrem while Sadie Frost, (whose daughter Iris is set to be a bridesmaid), will wear a frock by Christopher Beale.

All of European, and some of American, society will be heading to some very lavish weddings this weekend in Europe — the question is which will they attend? Kate Moss will be marrying her rocker boyfriend Jamie Hince in a three day affair in the English countryside dubbed Mosstock, while Prince Albert will marry South African Olympic swimmer Charlene Wittstock in Monte Carlo at a weekend long ceremony that is rumored to put the royal wedding to shame. Decisions, decisions…

According to the Daily Mail, Albert’s guest list includes; “Karl Lagerfeld, Giorgio Armani, Richard Branson, Archbishop Desmond Tutu, Virginia McKenna, Topshop’s Philip Green, and the Earl and Countess of Wessex.” Many of these guests however, most notably Karl and Sir Philip, seem like they would also be attending Kate’s ceremony July 1. Kate has long been a muse to Karl and designed for Sir Philip’s Topshop in the past!

Albert’s civil ceremony will be July 1 and his religious ceremony July 2, meaning some guests could celebrate Kate’s nuptials before hoping on a plane, no doubt private, to Monte Carlo to attend Albert’s religious service.

As for Kate’s ceremony, guests will no doubt include Sadie Frost, model pals Frankie Rayder and Naomi Campbell (a former flame of Prince Albert) and Kanye West, Snoop Dogg and Beth Ditto, who are all rumored to be performing! Prince Albert meanwhile will kick off his festivities June 30 with a concert featuring The Eagles. Is every major musician in Europe this weekend?

The venues could not be more different however. Kate will be married at her country estate in Cotwolds while Albert will be married in the Monaco Palace. Kate, though, has the benefit of world renowned photographer Mario Testino snapping her wedding pics for a cover feature in September Vogue!

It remains to be seen who will host the more star studded affair but one thing is for certain, Charlene and Kate will not doubt be two of the most beautiful brides of recent. Kate is said to be deciding between a gown from pals John Galliano and Stella McCartney while Charlene, a Grace Kelly look-alike, will be decked out in Armani.

John Galliano took the stand Wednesday, June 22 in a Paris courtroom to defend himself for his anti-Semitic tirade toward a couple at a Paris café, which occurred just before a video surfaced of the designer praising Hitler. His defense? He says he doesn’t remember any of it!
The 50-year-old fashion maven claims a triple addition to alcohol, Valium, and sleeping pills left him with no recollection of the incident that cost him his job as head designer for Christian Dior! John told the courts that the pressures of his creativity to “make Dior a billion-dollar business” led him to his substance additions.

One thing not helping make Dior a billion-dollar business? The face of Dior and proud member of the Jewish faith, Natalie Portman, spoke out against the designer, saying in a statement. “I will not be associated with Mr. Galliano in any way,” she said.

Prosecutors ask John be fined $14,400 for the rant — and that would be a light punishment! He could end up with as much as 6 months in jail and a $33,000 fine for “public insults based on origin, religious affiliation, race or ethnicity,” according to the courts. The three-judge panel will be revealing the verdict fashionably late, in September.

This story gives the saying “fashion junkie” a whole new meaning!

John Galliano is set to appear at the Palais de Justice in Paris this afternoon where the designer is likely to provide testimony regarding his long-standing battle with substance abuse. WWD reports that Galliano is still undergoing treatment for excessive drinking and use of prescription medication.

Galliano was arrested on Feb. 24 after making racial slurs, which eventually led to his demise at both Christian Dior and his namesake label under the fashion house.

The controversy surrounding the story grew when a video of Galliano drunk, spewing an anti-Semitic rant, surfaced. While the footage was shocking, it is not going to be used in the trial because the owner of the video never came forward with a complaint.

Galliano will face three judges and the trial is set to address two isolated incidents — one from Feb. 24 of this year and one from Oct. 8, 2010. The hearing is set to last four to five hours, although a judgement is unlikely til the Fall.

If convicted, the designer could face up to six months of imprisonment and a fine of $32,390.
