Jane By Design fans were crushed last week when ABC Family announced the show wouldn’t be returning for a second season — I coped with carbs —  but fortunately, creator April Blair was more than happy to give HollywoodLife.com an exclusive breakdown of what we would have seen in season two. And trust me, it would have been awesome.

1. Eli to the rescue: Curious how Jane (Erica Dasher) was going to explain to Gray (Andie MacDowell) and Eli (Bryan Dechart) why she was backstage at a high-school play? ”Our idea was that Eli was going to cover for her,” April says. “There were moments in episode 18 where he looked at the costumes crookedly, and throughout the play he pieced it together.”

2. Jane & Billy’s big moment: It sounds like Jane and Billy’s (Nick Roux) shippers would have been very happy with the show’s second season. “For two [finales], we really pulled the rug out from under people,” April admits. “But [in the second season], we wanted to give people that kiss, the moment they both acknowledge they have feelings for each other. We were really excited to do that, and give that to the fans.”

3. Wedding bells for Ben & Rita: April says there was a lot of discussion about Ben’s (David Clayton Rogers) future with Rita (Smith Cho), now that he decided to stay in town: “Do they get engaged? Will Rita become a bit of a bridezilla, obsessed with planning her wedding? We definitely wanted to have Ben propose next season.”

4. Jeremy & India: Things between Jeremy (Rowly Dennis) and India (India de Beaufort) would only become more complicated in season two. ”Jeremy would come back and start his own independent label, becoming a competitor for Donovan Decker,” April reveals. “His romance with India would grow, and they would become more serious — but at the same time, they would become professional rivals.”

5. Amanda, please: Amanda Clark (Briga Heelan) may not have found love with Ben, but April says there would definitely have been romance in her future. ”We were thinking of maybe having Amanda begin dating Todd [the other teacher originally vying for Rita's attention], and it would become a competitive couple thing. When you’re engaged or dating, you always have a friend that tries to one-up you. So we’d keep Amanda and Rita’s competition alive, but it would be less about Ben, and more about the rivalry between the two women.”

6. Mom’s back: “We were hoping to have [Jane's mom] make a reappearance,” April says. Teri Hatcher was contracted to direct an episode of season two, but actually having her appear as Kate in front of the camera ”would really be subject to Teri’s availability.”

It’s with much sadness that I report ABC Family has decided not to renew Jane By Design. The decision was announced Aug. 17, on the heels of several other series — Bunheads, Melissa & Joey, Baby Daddy and Switched at Birth — receiving new season and back-order pickups.

The show’s first season ended with Jane (Erica Dasher) finally getting caught by boss Gray (Andie MacDowell) for being in high school, after spending the series posing as her adult assistant. She had also finally acknowledged her feelings for best-friend Billy (Nick Roux).

Several of the shows stars thanked fans for their support over Twitter:

“Thank you so much for everything!!!” Jane herself, Erica, tweeted. “It was incredible and you all are the best part of that experience. Love love love”

Rowly Dennis, who played hot-shot British design Jeremy, tweeted: “Sorry guys, no more Jane By Design.”

Bryan Dechart, who played Gray’s nephew Eli, tweeted: “You guys are incredible and we truly appreciate your support. Eli’s gone, I’m not. :-)”

It’s been seven whole days since Jane By Design aired its summer finale cliffhanger, and although the future of the series — much like Jane’s (Erica Dasher) future at Donovan Decker — remains unconfirmed, I’m hearing that a second season is likely. So why not start compiling a wish list of all the things I’d like to see in season two?

1. An available, age-appropriate guy for Jane: I think we can all agree Jane has terrible luck with guys. Between unavailable-best-friend Billy (Nick Roux) and older-co-worker Eli (Bryan Dechart), Jane’s love life was pretty much lose-lose at the end of season one. She just needs to find a nice guy her own age so she can finally get her groove back! Perhaps round two with Nick (Matt Atkinson)?

2. More Jeremy/India drama: It was cute the way India (India de Beaufort) followed Jeremy (Rowly Dennis) to London to win him back, but I hope that doesn’t mean we’ve seen the last of the fireworks between them. Their relationship has always been fueled by tension, which is what made them so much fun to watch together. Maybe Jeremy will catch wind of India’s little romp with Eli! (Cue the fireworks.)

3. Babies for Ben & Rita: Since none of the other couples seem to be able to get their act together on this show, it would be nice for Ben (David Clayton Rogers) and Rita (Smith Cho) to serve as a good example for their fellow lovers. Creator April Blair told me this is her “favorite couple on the show,” so hopefully it can be smooth sailing from here on out. Plus, can you imagine Ben with a baby? Swoon.

4. More of Jane’s worlds colliding: The season may have ended with Gray (Andie MacDowell) and Eli confronting Jane at school, but let’s face it — Jane will probably find a way out of this mess, just like she’s done countless times before. Still, I never get tired of seeing her worlds come together with disastrous results. Remember when Billy helped Jane with the party at Gray’s house? Or when India and Jeremy were let loose in the hallways of Jane’s school? I want more of those situations.

5. Gray needs to stay: I know Andie is starring in the pilot for Hallmark Channel’s new series Cedar Cove, but I really hope she stays with Jane. So much of the show’s drama relies on Gray — Jane being her assistant, Eli being her nephew, India gunning for her job, etc. — and I’m not sure how it could all work without her. Plus, they’d have to reshoot the opening title sequence. And that just seems like a lot of work.

When Jane By Design creator April Blair told me everything would be “put in jeopardy” for Jane (Erica Dasher) on the July 31 summer finale, I didn’t realize what an understatement that really was. While Jane began the hour with a major victory in London, she ended it with a disappointing realization about Billy (Nick Roux) — and a very uncertain future at Donovan Decker!

I think the best way to break down the drama is to take things couple by couple, beginning with…

BEN & RITA: As promised, Ben (David Clayton Rogers) made his triumphant return home this week, but he didn’t just do it for Jane! He also professed his love for Rita (Smith Cho), who returned his affections by interrupting his baseball practice with some intense PDA. I really hope Whitemarsh High doesn’t have rules against co-workers dating, because these two are headed in an adorable direction and I don’t want them to stop. Ever.

INDIA & JEREMY: Though Jeremy (Rowly Dennis) agreed to deliver his drawings to Harrod’s, he drew the line at returning to Donovan Decker in New York. So India (India de Beaufort) did the only thing she could: She flew to England to win back her bloody bloke! We were left with a cute scene between the “couple” in Jeremy’s family’s pub, and even though India begged him to return to Donovan Decker with her, he really seems resistent to the idea.

JANE & ELI: In a surprising turn of events, especially for this show, Eli (Bryan Dechart) came clean to Jane about sleeping with someone else. Granted, he didn’t say who he slept with, but even a half-confession is a sign of serious progress. And while Jane was understandably upset, she also recognized that she and Eli weren’t exclusive, and she certainly gave him enough reasons to seek attention from another girl. Besides, she had Billy to think about! Which leads me to…

JANE & BILLY: I’m not going to lie, I think the promos for this episode totally over-hyped Billy’s “decision” between Jane and Zoe (Mariah Buzolin). At no point did Billy actually have to choose between the two — he’s clearly head-over-heels in love with Zoe right now — but it did break my heart to see Jane as she watched Billy play Prince Charming to Zoe’s Cinderella. She finally realized how much she loves him, a realization that arrived about eight episodes too late, unfortunately.

JANE & HER CAREER: As if watching Billy and Zoe together wasn’t hard enough, Jane was served a double dose of “FML” when Gray (Andie MacDowell) and Eli came backstage to meet the genius behind the play’s costumes. The episode ended with Jane and Gray standing face-to-face, and I can’t imagine how Jane can possibly explain her way out of this disaster. (Oh, who am I kidding? This is Jane we’re talking about! She’s gotten really good at lying.)

The tables officially turn on the July 31 summer finale of Jane By Design, with Billy (Nick Roux) now having to choose between girlfriend Zoe (Mariah Buzolin) and best-friend Jane (Erica Dasher). But creator April Blair tells HollywoodLife.com that Billy’s big decision is just one of many major moments we can anticipate, along with Jane’s two worlds colliding to the point where “everything is put in jeopardy.”

Here’s what I learned:

1. Are Eli & Jane officially over? Well, it depends on how you look at it. Yes, Eli (Bryan Dechart) slept with India (India de Beaufort) last week, but April suggests we take a step back and examine both sides of the situation. “Jane and Eli have only been on one date,” she explains. “One date and one kiss. For Jane, a 16-year-old girl, that’s a big deal — but for a 24-year-old guy, that doesn’t make them exclusive. It’s a little adult lesson for Jane.”

2. Is Jeremy staying in London? We’ve seen from promos that Jane returns to the states, but Jeremy’s (Rowly Dennis) future isn’t quite as certain. “Jeremy may or not come back,” April says. “Rowly will stay on the show as long as the show is around, but Jeremy’s journey back to New York is a little more complicated than just riding back with Jane.”

3. Will India stop being a bitch? Probably not! But April says India’s little roll in the hay with Eli revealed a more human side to her we’ll hopefully see more of in the future. “In her heart, she’s really in love with Jeremy,” April explains. “The simple solution would have been her going after him and chasing him down in London, but sometimes people do the opposite of that. At the same time she realizes she’s in love with Jeremy, she also made a very bad decision.”

4. Ben & Rita’s “satisfying” moment: If you missed Ben (David Clayton Rogers) on last week’s episode, you’ll be happy to know the new baseball star ”makes a special appearance” on the finale. “Ben and Rita are my favorite couple on the show, so I’m rooting for them,” April admits. “There are lots of romances bubbling now with a lot of angst, and I think theirs has the most satisfying, complete end this season.”

5. Jane’s “no way out” crisis: “At the end of the finale, Jane’s worlds completely collide and everything is put in jeopardy,” April tells me. “It’s a moment where there’s just no way out, much like the way she was caught between Billy and Jeremy on the runway.” Considering pictures from the finale show Gray (Andie MacDowell) and Eli confronting Jane at the school play, I’d be shocked if she’s somehow able to weasel her way out this time.

Happy Hump Day! It’s raining kitties and puppies — at least it is here in New York — and I’ve got an umbrella of spoilers for you to hide under! (Note to self: Work on better metaphors.) Read on for some exclusive scoop on your favorite shows (and mine!)

90210

The Oct. 8 season premiere of 90210 will find the Beverly Hills gang back at the same chapel where Max (Josh Zuckerman) left his fiancée for Naomi (AnnaLynne McCord) — so does that mean we’ve got another wedding on our hands? I reached out to The CW for comment, and while they can’t confirm anything just yet, I have a feeling we can rule out any of the main characters tying the knot. It’s more likely that the episode is simply picking up where the finale left off, but hey, last season’s premiere did feature a “Lannie” proposal, so you never know!

Jane By Design

We’re still a few weeks away from Jane By Design‘s (hopefully) season finale, but that doesn’t mean we can’t look ahead at the drama to come! During my recent chat with Erica Dasher, she told me that “Jane’s two worlds collide in a huge way at the end of the season.” Does this mean Gray (Andie MacDowell) will finally figure out her assistant’s big secret? Donovan Decker’s HR department really dropped the ball on that one.

True Blood

We’ve already seen Reverend Steve Newlin (Michael McMillian) switch teams on True Blood this season — but are we about to see him switch sides? “He’s OK with taking orders right now, but he’s a survivalist,” Michael recently told me. “I think he’s happy to have a job … but where his real alliegance lies is still a bit of a mystery.” Am I the only one predicting that Steve could become Russell Edgington’s (Denis O’Hare) new Talbot?

The L.A. Complex

The tale of Tariq’s (Benjamin Charles Watson) twisted romance is about to get even uglier — and I’m not just talking about his post-assault face. Though Tariq remains M.I.A. for the July 24 episode of The L.A. Complex, viewers will see Kaldrick (Andra Fuller) forced to wrestle with his inner demons. And, oh yes, there will be blood.

Pretty Little Liars

Is Alison (Sasha Pieterse) not dead after all? On the July 24 episode of Pretty Little Liars, Hanna (Ashley Benson) and Mona (Janel Parrish) attempt to channel their missing BFF — yes, it’s a super-old flashback — and their Ouiji board informs them that she’s alive! This little announcement is followed by a spooky shot of Ali standing at the window, an image that still gives me goosebumps just thinking about it.

Jane (Erica Dasher) finally had her first real date with Eli (Bryan Dechart) on the July 17 episode of Jane By Design, and it was perfect — minus the part where Jane spilled red wine all over Nina Garcia and had to leave the fanciest restaurant in town wearing a table cloth for a dress. Other than that… perfect.

Fortunately Jane was able to fix that little problem all on her own, because Billy (Nick Roux) was a little busy sticking his foot in his mouth. He overheard Zoe and Nick (Matt Atkinson) running lines for the play, but thought they were having a serious conversation, which led to a super-awkward moment for the three of them. Zoe got mad at Billy for not trusting her, but um… isn’t the one who already lied to him about where she lived? I’ve been on the fence about Zoe so far, but after this episode, I’m officially not a fan.

Meanwhile, Ben was dealing with his own life crisis. Though he was given the opportunity of a lifetime — a chance to play minor-league baseball — he couldn’t help but think about what he’d be leaving behind: his family and, of course, Rita (Smith Cho). Shaw the Jaw even tried to stop Ben from leaving by coming clean about how she really feels, but it was too little too late. (I guess she’s kicking herself for wanting to take a break now.)

And after a long, heartfelt talk with Jane, her mom (Teri Hatcher) also decided it was time to grow up and accept Dakota’s proposal. So she packed her bags and headed off to Colorado. I have to say I’m really going to miss Kate. I loved that Jane’s mom was finally back in her life, and Teri Hatcher is always welcome on my TV screen. (Fingers crossed for a second season so we can get her back!)

But wait… with Ben and Kate gone, that means Jane is home alone! This should be… awesome.
