Phillip Bloch has a message for every girl: it’s all about layering! HollywoodLife.com spoke with the celeb stylist and ABC News host at the 9th Annual Hollywood Style Awards in NYC and he told us exactly what every girl needs to own to look totally chic this season.

“White shirts,” he says. “Because it’s all about layering. Whether it’s a sequin skirt, a dress over the leggings, it’s about layering. Tweeds, leather and cognac, and every girl must own a leather shift dress.”

Getting red carpet ready for our Hollywood Style Awards seemed like a daunting task but after calling upon Hollywood’s most influential beauty and style experts, it was a sinch!

It all starts with the dress! Any girl whose ever been to a high school dance knows it all depends on that three to five feet of fabric — it can make or break your night! I had no idea what I was going to do, but when PR guru Ann Lawlor suggested I stop by the Luca Luca showroom in NYC, I was floored! The dresses were stunning. Every dress was its own original creation, with intricate beading, deep colors, and just screamed A-list!

I found the gorgeous vintage dress [above] in just 15 minutes — it’s a one of a kind! It was made for the runway and then never replicated to sell in stores. I felt like Elizabeth Taylor!

Next came the jewelry! What on earth would I own to compliment such a gorgeous dress? Immediately I knew who to call: Martin Katz! Martin is one of the most famous jewelry designers in the world. He’s worked with everyone from Angelina Jolie, Kate Winslet, Heidi Klum, and Nicole Kidman! I stopped by his exclusive Beverly Hills store the day before the show in LA and I walked out with black diamond chandelier earrings, and two diamond bracelets. I felt like royalty!

The last thing left was what some would consider the most important: hair and makeup! Ahh! But luckily José Eber, most famous for creating the Farrah Fawcett flip in the 70s allowed the entire HL team to stop by his Beverly Hills salon and get beautified! With the help of stylist Paul Anthony and makeup artist Jonah Vicente, I walked out feeling like an old Hollywood celebrity!

The night went off without a hitch and celebs like Khloe Kardashian, Eva Longoria, Selma Blair, Chloe Moretz.

José’s new salon which is accented in purple as a tribute to his longtime best friend Elizabeth Taylor, is located in the heart of Beverly Hills in the former home of the elite Christie’s Auction House. José has said the new space which opened in July 2011 was “old world Parisian style with an updated twist.”
