Wei Chu, 30, was rushed to a nearby hospital after the crash in Chandler, Arizona where she miraculously gave birth to a baby girl. Unfortunately, the young mother passed away moments later. Read on for more of the heartbreaking details. 

Chandler Police Department spokesman Seth Tyler told HollywoodLife.com, “The baby is still in critical condition as of right now (Dec 28).”

According to Officer Tyler, Chu’s father, 52, was driving the Honda Accord and failed to look for oncoming traffic before turning left at a busy intersection. The car was struck by a Ford utility truck that didn’t have time to stop.

“Chu was sitting in the back behind the passenger seat. Her 2-year-old son was also sitting in the back in a car seat. He was not injured, however Chu’s mother, 56, who was sitting in the passenger seat was injured. She is still being treated for injuries, but is expected to recover,” said Officer Tyler. “Chu’s father was not hurt.”

“I have been doing this for 12 years and I have never heard of a circumstance like this. So far this little girl is a miracle baby, but she remains in critical condition,” says Tyler. “When the paramedics arrived, Chu’s health quickly deteriorated on the scene and she was taken to a trauma center. The doctors were able to save the baby by performing a C-section.”

Chu’s husband arrived at the crash scene and was then taken to the hospital.

The truck driver was not driving under the influence and speed was not a factor. Chu’s father will most likely be charged with a misdemeanor.

Paige Thomas may be riding high as she serenades millions on The X Factor, but her life beforehand was very different. Paige lost her own mother at the age of seven, became homeless at 14, then gave birth to her daughter Jade (now 3) when she was 19.

Paige tells Star, “I endured so much during my childhood, and it would have been easier to just give up, but there was something telling me I shouldn’t end it. I cried a lot and I prayed a lot. My mother died in a car accident on Christmas Eve when I was 7, and my father just couldn’t deal with the pain.”

Paige then became homeless, and spent several years moving between friends homes until she realized she was pregnant just after she completed high school.

“My daughter wasn’t planned and completely changed my life,” she says. “Cheerleading and track were my passions and I had scholarship offers, but I had to take a different path.”

However, Paige has no regrets.

“I want other young women with children to know that regardless of what people say, they should follow their dreams,” she says.

A study at the Harvard Medical School found that expectant mothers who drank at least three units of alcohol a day stunted their children’s growth for the next nine years.

“We found that children born to women who drank heavily during pregnancy had reductions in weight, height, and head circumference, an indicator of brain growth,” said author Dr. Robert Carter.

The growth restrictions caused by the mother’s alcohol consumption were present from birth until about the age of nine.

The researchers tested 85 pregnant women from a pre-natal clinic who were self-described as “heavy” drinkers and then compared them to 63 pregnant women who either did not drink or were described as “light” drinkers.

Although the heavy drinkers were advised to decrease their alcohol consumption, 17 of the women gave birth to children suffering from Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder, the main cause of mental retardation in children.

Move over Teen Mom – tonight we get our first look at My Teen Is Pregnant and So Am I. In the clip below, we see a mother and daughter duo getting sonograms — what should be an exciting first step ends in a crazy emotional moment.

In this clip, we see the Phillips family from South Carolina. Mother Melissa and daughter Kristen visit the doctor to get sonograms together.

“Us being pregnant at the same time is a situation that I never would have ever expected to happen,” Melissa says.

Kristen comments that her unborn baby brother “is cute” on the sonogram screen. “The hardest thing I’ve probably ever had to do was tell my mom I was pregnant. Scared and nervous and very disappointed in myself,” Kristen reveals.

Just before Kristen is about to get her sonogram, mother Melissa says, “I’m not ready to see this.” The scene quickly turns emotional with both mom and daughter breaking down in tears.

After Jamie Lynne Grumet stunned the nation with her Time magazine cover, which featured her four-year-old son latched to her breast, the controversial practices of extreme parenting have been launched into the forefront of family and psychological discussions. A new reality show investigates these parents, and shines a light on why more moms and celebrities are embracing the trend.

Extreme Parenting will look at arguments for and against over-protective practices such as attachment parenting, and why some parents choose to not embrace the idea of independence for their children.

The show, which is created by the team behind Bridezillas and Dance Moms, will follow American families as they defend their decision to engage in over-the-top behaviors when it comes to child rearing. Jeff Collins, the  president of Collins Avenue Productions, believes this show will open the eyes of millions of Americans.

“I’m interested in peeling back the curtain to look at choices other people make that will have a huge impact on their children or their lives.”

Although critics have spoken out against attachment parenting, many celebrities are embracing the trend. Actress Alicia Silverstone had everyone cringing in March when she posted a video of herself feeding her baby Bear Blu chewed up food directly from her mouth. Alanis Morissette has also been an advocate of attachment parenting.

Breastfeeding beyond infancy is just one of the topics Extreme Parenting will cover, Jeff insisted. “We’ve discovered people are raising kids in all kinds of un-traditional ways these days and some people find their methods to be extreme.”

The air date is still unknown, but Jeff hopes that it will reach the air come fall after network negotiations.
