Red carpets have always seemed to encourage fashion and beauty risks, from J.Lo to Rihanna to Nicki Minaj. But it was a more seasoned star who got inspired to the max at the EE British Academy Film Awards on Sunday, Feb. 10 in London – Dame Helen Mirren shocked everyone when she stepped on the carpet sporting hot pink hair!

Helen is famous for her gorgeous hair, but the 67-year-old actress shook things up by going pink! The color change is DEFINITELY a surprise, but what’s more surprising is that Helen actually pulled off the look flawlessly!

Matched with a semi-sheer, off-white gown with bright white embroidered flowers, Helen’s hair was actually her best accessory. And the look was completed by Helen’s pink nail polish and lipstick. This woman knows how to accent a dress!

Helen Mirren already looks incredible for her age, and the new pink ‘do shows that she’s feeling just as young as she looks.

Much younger stars have popularized the pink hair dye trend – Katy Perry, Dianna Agron, and Kelly Osbourne (although hers is more purple) are just a few that come to mind — and Helen admits that her new hair color was inspired by a younger star. Well, sort of.

On the BAFTA red carpet, Helen explained to reporters that she was modeling her cut and color off of a contestant from the TV show America’s Next Top Model who sported a similar style.

“I just thought it would be fun to dye my hair pink,” Helen said. “I mean, honestly, I was watching America’s Next Top Model and the season where there were the British girls. Well the British girl who won, she had pink hair, and I thought, ‘That looks really pretty.’ So I’m copying her basically.”

3. Russell’s charming accent, of course! I’m not the only girl who swoons for a British accent and his voice just gets me every time. Everything he says sounds sexy and funny at the same time. Even if all else fails for you in Arthur, I guarantee you will still leave feeling content after just listening to his sweet voice for two hours.

4. You can live out your billionaire fantasy! We’ve all dreamed about what our lives would be like if we had an endless supply of money and wondered about the most frivolous ways we could spend it. Arthur finds the most unconventional ways to blow through his millions, like closing down NYC’s Grand Central Terminal for a date, complete with personalized Pez heads and acrobats!

5. Beneath all of the humor, there’s a touching story. Arthur is a man who really is still a boy. We care about how he is finally trying to grow up and stand on his own.

Wow, Jennifer Garner, why so drab? Your co-star Helen Mirren looked absolutely regal for your new movie’s big night in NYC!

Jennifer Garner, 38, showed up looking super boring at the Arthur premiere in NYC in a black and grey Oscar de la Renta ensemble. In comparison to co-star Helen Mirren, 65, looked stunning in her cream linen Lanvin gown!

We can’t get over how amazing Helen looks in this delicate dress! And we can’t believe Jennifer showed up in this way-too-low-key getup! After playing a seductive bad girl in Arthur, we were expecting something fierce — we’re shocked!

We’re really disappointed, Jennifer. You’re a beautiful girl and you didn’t give us anything to rave about with this outfit. Black and grey? You need  some color, girl! This is not the look you want for working the red carpet!

Many of you agreed with critics that James Franco fell flat as an Oscar host alongside Anne Hathaway, so we at HollywoodLife.com came up with a list of celebrities who should have hosted Hollywood’s biggest night instead.

Although we love James Franco and Anne Hathaway, the Academy could have hired people who are just as beloved by America and would have been charming on the Oscar stage. Here are our top five choices:

• Russell Brand & Helen Mirren - Russell hosted the VMAs two years in a row and is witty no matter the circumstances. We can’t wait to Russell when he pairs up with Helen in the upcoming movie, Arthur.
• Robert Pattinson & Kirsten Stewart - Rob and Kirsten are two of our favorite stars. This adorable duo would be sure to make the Twi-hards go crazy. And who knows they might even get Taylor Lautner to make a guest appearance.
• Hugh Jackman - He already hosted the Oscars once in 2009 and keep us laughing the entire night. There may be a reason why Anne Hathaway keep mentioning him through the telecast last night. After all, who can resist Wolverine?
• James Franco’s Grandma - While her grandson may have fell short as an Oscar host, James Franco’s Grandma’s cameo during the Oscars was enough to make us a fan. We want to see more of her soon!
• Billy Crystal – He is the quintessential Oscar host. He has hosted eight times. He is  a song and dance man that we just can’t get enough of … what more do we need to say?

Young Hollywood’s hottest young talents were out in full force Jan. 8 at the Palm Springs International Film Fastival Awards Gala, picking up some hardware for their amazing performances in 2010. A beaming Natalie Portman, trading in her standard Dior and Rodarte for Vionnet, led the parade of stars that included Amy Adams, Rashida Jones, Jennifer Lawrence and Carey Mulligan to name a few.

Carey looked prim and proper in her textured purple Prada cocktail dress while Jennifer went for big color and a print in her curve hugging Oscar de la Renta. Amy also provided a burst of color in her off the shoulder turquoise Narcisco Rodriguez and the forever youthful Helen Mirren went all out in her purple Zac Posen — complete with fishtail!

Also looking great was Rashida in a printed top from Stella McCartney’s 2011 Resort collection and black skirt.

Watching people make complete fools of themselves — usually resulting in hilarious injuries — apparently never gets old. Jackass 3D, the final installment in Johnny Knoxville‘s epic trilogy, made an estimated $50 million in its opening weekend, according to Nikki Finke‘s Deadline.com. Red came in second place with $22 million, but even a machine gun-wielding Helen Mirren wasn’t enough to keep the boys at bay.

You might have expected it, but Sandra Bullock was truly shocked when she won the Oscar, she told reporters backstage at the Academy Awards on Mar. 7!  “I didn’t aspire to this,” she said of her award. “I was in awe of it. I admired it. I got to watch it like everyone else did or present, but it wasn’t something that I said, ‘one day when I get the Oscar …’”

Sandra — who beat out Meryl Streep, Gabourey Sidibe, Helen Mirren, and Carey Mulligan for the Academy Award for Best Actress for The Blind Side — confessed, “This came out of left field, every pun intended. This is the film I said ‘no’ to. It just was such odd circumstances and things came together in a way that I just didn’t see coming. No one saw coming. And I think that’s what makes it so overwhelming and unexpected.”

She also promised to keep doing what she does best … comedy! “Just because I won an Oscar, I don’t want to ever stop doing something that makes people laugh. I love making people laugh!”

Of the film, Sandra said, “I think it makes a great inspirational story when you can see it work, when you see what someone can rise to the occasion and do. And I think that’s what works so well in stories like that. I love stories about passion and love. Love of country, love of people. Love of sport. It’s just it makes a good film.”

Sandra, who is married to motorcycle hunk Jesse James, showed her famous down-to-Earth attitude when she told reporters backstage that after winning the Oscar: “I just want a burger and I just want some food! I want to sit down, take the shoes off. You know, we got some friends that are all meeting. I just want to eat … I just want to relax and just eat.  And I’d like a nap. I’d like a nap, too!”
