Supatra Sasuphan, 11, of Bangkok is one of the 50 sufferers of Ambras Syndrome, a condition that causes abnormal hair growth, and after being teased for years, she is finally happy and content with being considered a “werewolf.” Why? Well, she holds a Guinness World Record for being the world’s hairiest girl and she’s proud of it!

“I’m very happy to be in the Guinness World Records! A lot of people have to do a lot to get in,” she says. “All I did was answer a few questions and then they gave it to me.” And ever since she was rewarded the title, Supatra has become “one of the most popular girls in school.”

“There were a few people who used to tease me and call me monkey face but they don’t do it any more,” Supatra says. “I’m very used to this condition. I can’t feel the hair as it has always been like this. I don’t feel anything,” she adds. “It does sometimes make it difficult to see when it gets long. I hope I will be cured one day.”

Supatra is just like any other kid her age, except for the fact that she grows thick hair on her face, ears, arms, legs and back — a problem even laser treatment can’t cure. But her rare disease doesn’t stop her from doing the things she loves like swimming, dancing to her favorite music and watching cartoons, especially Bugs Bunny.

And because of what she goes through, Supatra hopes one day she can “help cure people.”

“I want to become a doctor so I can help patients when they get injured,” she explains. “I want to help people who get hurt and help cure people.”
