Taylor Lautner is taking matters into his own hands! The Hollywood Reporter has just confirmed that Taylor and Gus Van Sant will be working together on an upcoming project based on a non-fiction article from The New Yorker.

HollywoodLife.com spoke with Gus on Sept. 14 and this is what said.

“There’s a film that he wanted to put together,” Gus told us at at the screening hosted by Cinema Society with Dior Homme & GQ. “But I’m not working on it … yet. It’s possible I may work on it.”

Taylor and the Milk director dined together on July 13 and again on Aug. 13 at a performance of Cirque Du Soleil discussing this film. We can’t wait to learn more about it!

Taylor Lautner is teaming up with one of Hollywood’s best – director Gus Van Sant! HollywoodLife.com attended the premiere of Gus’ new coming of age film Restless on Sept. 14 and we just had to ask why he’s been spotted all over town with our favorite Twilight star!

“There’s a film that he wanted to put together,” Gus told at at the screening hosted by Cinema Society with Dior Homme & GQ. “But I’m not working on it … yet. It’s possible I may work on it.”

This explains why Taylor, 19, dined with the 2008’s Milk director Gus and screenwriter Dustin Lance Black on July 13, and was spotted exactly one month later on Aug. 13 at Cirque Du Soleil’s performance of Iris.

Taylor stars in the upcoming thriller flick Abduction which is due out in theaters Sept. 23 but after seeing Restless, we hope Taylor and Gus are working on a love story!

“I hope [filmgoers] get into the love story,” Gus told us of Restless. “And they feel like they want to fall in love.”

Taylor Lautner checked out Cirque du Soleil’s IRIS in Los Angeles this past weekend and was nice enough to tweet a photo with the cast. But it wasn’t the assortment of crazy colorful clowns that caught our eye. We’re more interested in who Taylor went to the show with — legendary director Gus Van Sant!

The last time Taylor, 19, and Gus, 59, were spotted out together, they were joined by Academy Award-winning screenwriter Dustin Lance Black, 37, who’s developing the script for the big screen version of the Broadway musical American Idiot. We immediately began speculating that Taylor might be joining the rock musical — and for the record, we’d LOVE to see him do it!

Taylor Lautner enjoyed a lovely dinner at Bottega Louie in Los Angeles July 13 with two very unlikely companions — Oscar nominees Dustin Lance Black and Gus Van Sant. Is Taylor in talks to take a role in the film version of American Idiot?

Not to slight young Mr. Lautner, but Dustin and Gus seem like VERY unlikely dinner mates for the 19-year-old. Furthermore, news that Dustin is developing the script for American Idiot makes it seem like Taylor may be in talks to take a role in the rock musical. He might be looking for a departure after Twilight and the role of Johnny, the “Jesus of Suburbia,”  would be ideal. A sex crazed heroin addict is a far cry from the chaste and cordial werewolf he has played for the past four years.

Gus is not officially involved in the project but he could have been introducing the two as he was at one time in talks to direct the final two installments of Twilight, Breaking Dawn. Or, Gus could be replacing director Michael Mayer, who also directed the stage version, and taking the reigns of the upcoming film.

Gus is no stranger to rock films, having directed the critically acclaimed Last Days in 2005, a film that drew parallels to the lives of both Kurt Cobain and Elliott Smith.

Taylor’s reps tell HolywoodLife that any reports of Taylor working with Dustin or Gus is, “Not true.” But why would they be having dinner?
