Relationships between TV characters are always complicated — especially when there are more than two people involved! 2012 served up some of TV’s hottest love triangles yet, from the ongoing drama between Damon (Ian Somerhalder), Elena (Nina Dobrev) and Stefan (Paul Wesley) on The Vampire Diaries, to the new conflict between Finn (Cory Monteith), Rachel (Lea Michele) and Brody (Dean Geyer) on Glee.

We know we’re pretty liberal with the phrase “OMG” here at HollywoodLife.com, but seriously, 2012 had some of the craziest moments we’ve ever seen on TV! From Damon and Elena having sex for the first time on The Vampire Diaries to Tate Stevens‘ surprise X Factor victory, we’re counting down the year’s biggest “OMG” moments. Which one was your fave?

On Dec. 17, Gossip Girl ended and our hearts broke at the thought of no longer hearing the words “Who am I? That’s one secret I’ll never tell.” But at least we can console ourselves with the fact that we now know who Gossip Girl is! It look six long seasons for the finale to roll around, but it was worth the wait, as we saw the marriage of Chuck (Ed Westwick) and Blair (Leighton Meester), the return of Little J, and most importantly the unmasking of Gossip Girl. It was the perfect ending to a great show. Watch the video below!

Gossip Girl Finale

The finale of Gossip Girl was nothing short of spectacular, especially when we learned the true identity of the notorious blogger – DAN HUMPHREY! Lonely Boy (Penn Badgley) was the real voice who rules the scandalous lives of Manhattan’s elite, and weirdly Serena (Blake Lively) and the gang didn’t care!

Meanwhile, Chuck and Blair had the most beautiful wedding in Central Park, and in the future we see that they have the cutest little boy Henry! Serena and Dan also get married, Little J and Eric return and Nate (Chace Crawford) announces that he is running for Mayor.

And possibly the best part of the show was Kristen Bell and Rachel Bilson‘s cameo!

And from what we can tell, the fans loved the season finale, and the fact that Dan is Gossip Girl!

On Dec. 17, fans said goodbye to Dan (Penn Badgley), Blair (Leighton Meester), Serena (Blake Lively) Chuck (Ed Westwick) and Nate (Chace Crawford) as the Upper East Side gang closed their penthouse doors to us forever, in what can only be described as the best season finale ever! The best part of the episode by far was when we finally learned the identity of Gossip Girl, but fans are divided over the ultimate revelation. Read on to see what they thought!

Gossip Girl’s Identity

“Who am I? That’s one secret I’ll never tell,” are the famous words uttered by Gossip Girl, but after more than 100 episodes she has finally decided to spill the beans. And Gossip Girl is: DAN HUMPHREY!

Lonely Boy is in fact the face behind the most powerful voice in Manhattan, as he revealed that he didn’t know how to fit in with the posh kids, so instead he decided to “write [his] way in”.

Fans took to Twitter, the CW’s Gossip Girl Facebook page and HollywoodLife.com to discuss their reactions to the season finale, and while many were happy with Dan being Gossip Girl, there were quite a few who were not!

HollywoodLifers and Twitter users made some great points about the revelation:

Linda said “OMG.Dan is the GG.I Can’t belive.Im really gona MISS GG and the characters.It’s an amaizing show.”

Ally thinks “Omg I was so shocked that Dan was gossip girl! My jaw literally dropped to the floor. I always thought it was Dorota and if not her then Jenny but I didn’t even consider Dan!”

Here at HollywoodLife.com, we thought it was a pretty amazing ending, and I was personally shocked but delighted that Dan has been the one saying “xoxo” for the last six years.

Not only did Gossip Girl feel like a continuation of Sex and the City in the respect that both series told a romantic story in New York City, but the series finale on Dec. 17 paid homage to the more grown-up series that came before it!

As the final scene of Gossip Girl started rolling, I couldn’t help but feel like I was being transported back into the mindset I had when I first watched Carrie Bradshaw (Sarah Jessica Parker) reunite with her girlfriends after a failed trip to Paris on the series finale of Sex and the City! I quickly realized it was because GG used the same song that SatC used during its finale scene.

Two Different Series, But One In The Same

While some may say it’s copying, I say it’s the perfect form of flattery! Sure, both series were directed towards a different demographic — one young teens, the other was more adult driven, but both catered to a viewer who loves fashion, romance and most of all, New York City!

As a big fan of both series, I felt that each show ended in the best way possible and the use of “You’ve Got The Love” — Gossip Girl used Florence + The Machine’s rendition while Sex and the City used Candi Staton’s — was the icing on the cake.

Paying Respects To ‘Sex and the City’

Obviously, the creators behind Gossip Girl decided to use the same song (a more updated version, albeit) on purpose. In the retrospective hour that preceded the series finale on Dec. 17, co-creator Stephanie Savage mentioned how when Sex and the City ended in 2004, there was a void left on television of a real magical romance story centered in New York City. She felt that Gossip Girl was the perfect continuation of that type of storytelling. I couldn’t agree more.

Chuck (Ed Westwick) and Blair (Leighton Meester) tied the knot during the series finale of CW’s hit series Gossip Girl on Dec. 17. But the real revelation came during the ending flash-forward when we met their son Henry — dressed in his prep school best, naturally. He looked like the spitting image of both parents!

A few-years-older Chuck and Blair took to their roles nicely as a wealthy Upper East Side power couple, complete with an elegant townhome, amid — and of course adorable son Henry. Blair is also the head of Waldorf designs!

The other characters have major developments five years later as well: Nate (Chace Crawford) is running for Mayor, Georgina is dating Jack Bass and Serena (Blake Lively) and Dan (Penn Badgley) are getting married. Aww! Jenny and Eric also return, and the only sad part was that Lily and Rufus are no longer together.

The finale also included some major surprises, such as Chuck and Blair tying the knot in the first place so she could avoid testifying against him. And Chuck was even taken away from their elegant wedding ceremony in handcuffs to be questioned by the police — how perfect.

But the biggest revelation of the night was who “Gossip Girl” actually is — and it was DAN! Who saw that coming?!

Back in October, we were able to get a sneak peak at the unique wedding gowns of Blair and Serena, played by Leighton Meester and Blake Lively, leading us to believe there would be back-to-back weddings — however, that wasn’t the case. Blair and Chuck, (played by Ed Westwick), tied the knot first while Serena and Dan, (played by Penn Badgley), followed in their footsteps five years later.

The events that occurred during the Gossip Girl series finale were just as shocking as the wedding gown choices. Pale blue for Blair and metallic gold for Serena, certainly not your typical wedding dresses — but that didn’t stop them from looking absolutely stunning.

However, the police did crash the wedding to take Chuck away for questioning Bart’s murder– not the typical ideal wedding. Luckily, he did not commit the crime, and he was able to carry on with his beautiful wife. Let’s be real– nothing was typical about their wedding, including Blair’s dress. Gal pal, Serena, also opted for an extravagant, unique dress.

Blair’s long-sleeved, pale blue boatneck Elie Saab dress was decorated with romantic embellishments. The column gown was gorgeous and worked so well with her updo — and what would a Blair Waldorf wedding be without a signature headband?

Serena, on the other hand, opted for a bolder dress. She really made a statement with her metallic and white strapless Georges Chakra Couture gown. From the full tulle skirt to the low back, the look was totally over-the-top — and we wouldn’t expect anything less from the blonde bombshell!

Throughout the six seasons of the show, these girls have rocked the cutest outfits and latest trends. Their dress choices for the final episode really were just icing on the cake. While they each had a very distinct sense of style, they both made bold moves and absolutely worked it. Do you dare to wear something similar to one of these dresses at your own wedding?
