Gloria Estefan may be busy with her new gig as a judge on The CW’s The Next, but she still has plenty of room for Glee in her life. HollywoodLife.com spoke with the music legend Aug. 15, and she revealed she’s already spoken with creator Ryan Murphy about bringing back her character — she played Santana’s (Naya Rivera) mom on the third season finale — and staging a confrontation with Santana’s homophobic grandma!

For those of you who don’t remember, Santana’s grandma essentially disowned her when she learned her granddaughter was a lesbian.

“I would never allow my mother to be like that to my daughter in any way shape or form,” Gloria explained to us. “So I really need to have it out with her and have some type of reunion, because it is not acceptable what she did in my book. I told Ryan, so hopefully [I can do] that and come back and sing!”

We were surprised when Gloria didn’t perform a show stopper — she’s freakin’ Gloria Estefan, after all — but she told us she’s glad her character didn’t sing.

“I preferred that my screen time was devoted to my character and the development of the mom,” she explained. “I was happy that I could focus on the acting. People know I’m a singer; they didn’t need to know that about me.”

Gloria even revealed a scrapped duet between herself and another iconic Glee guest star:

“Originally, they were going to do something with Ricky Martin and me but then Whitney [Houston] passed away and their whole thing changed. The tribute wasn’t a part of the plan. Things change in TV but as for eventually singing on the show, I would love it!

Has the Will.i.am proclaimed “swagger-naut” peaked? After doing a pretty stellar rendition of Whitney Houston‘s “I Will Always Love You” on last weeks show, things took an awful turn with her March 14 rendition of Gloria Estefan‘s ‘Turn the Beat Around’.

Let me throw some names your way, Amanda Avila, Haley Scarnato, Carmen Rasmusen and Diana DeGarmo. All former Idol hopefuls that have sung ‘Turn the Beat Around’ and all contestants that never won American Idol! So after Jessica Sanchez took her stab at the classic dance song the only thing that was bleeding with emotion were my ears.

For a contestant that has been given so much hype, has proven their hype in past performances, this latest performance has proved she is not the phenom everyone wants her to become. Sure do people have bad nights? Without a doubt, but this is the time to shine and mistakes are only allowed very limitedly to the audience voting for their favorites. Look what has happened to Chris Daughtry and Jennifer Hudson in the past. You have to be on it 100% of the time or it WILL catch up to you!

Could this performance be the game changer of the whole competition allowing someone else to win the whole show? If anyone wants to lay down any bets, consider me one who will gamble anything on this prediction.

We’ve never met Santana’s mom before on Glee, but now with her major storyline about coming out as a lesbian, Naya Rivera‘s character is getting some love — including a maternal influence played by the lovely Gloria Estefan.

The 54-year-old Cuban-born singer hinted at the big news on Twitter Nov. 30, writing, “Hey M’Tweets! Did anyone see Glee last night? Santana could really use a sympathetic mommy right about now, don’t you think?? Lol!”

Entertainment Weekly also reported Gloria will be in an episode with Ricky Martin in January, which will feature some of her music.

Gloria’s hard work is definitely paying off — she just signed with Wilhelmina International, Inc., one of the biggest talent agencies in the world!

“Gloria Estefan is one of the most recognized international talents in the world today. She is a timeless beauty and an icon,” said Sean Patterson, President of Wilhelmina Models. “Her current album is modern and sexy; and we see many opportunities for her in fashion and beauty.”
