The couple decided it would be too confusing for Harper and Gideon to have two ‘dads’ & neither wanted to be ‘mom!’

Can you believe Neil Patrick Harris and David Burtka‘s adorable twins are already nine months old?  The couple were terrified their tots would learn to talk before they’d figured out what to call themselves, so they had to get creative!

“This is a sore subject,” Neil tells Jay Leno on The Tonight Show. “Because we are two gentleman with children. And so we didn’t know what to call ourselves.”

“Daddy One and Daddy Two sounds kind of strange…So David’s ‘daddy’ and I’m ‘poppa’, just to differentiate.”

Now they’ve settled that conundrum, Neil and David are battling over Harper and Gideon‘s first word! The How I Met Your Mother star explains, “One of the child’s first syllables is ‘da da.’ So I’m going around (trying to teach them) ‘pa pa.’”

The actor admits the Beckhams have made his twin daughter ‘trendy’ by giving their baby girl the same name!

But Neil Patrick Harris wants the world to know his and partner David Burtka‘s little Harper came first!

“The Beckhams named their daughter Harper Seven,” he told Jay Leno on the Tonight Show on July 18. “(Mine’s) Harper One.”

And he has a plan to make Harper’s twin brother Gideon just as hip!

Neil adds, “Isn’t that exciting? Once the Beckhams have a kid with your name then it’s really cool all of a sudden. Now we just have to have the Pitt-Jolies name their next kid Gideon and we’re in!’

We get the feeling both these babies are trendsetters and there’ll soon be thousands of little copycat Harpers!

What do superstars take on their baby’s playdates? A security detail, if you’re Elton John!

The rocker is accompanied by a team of minders whenever he travels with husband David Furnish, 48, and baby Zachary – even when they’re visiting fellow new dad Neil Patrick Harris and his twins!

Five-month-old Zachary recently hung out with NPH’s eight-month-old twins Gideon & Harper — who were also born to a surrogate mom — and Neil was stunned when pal Elton, 64, brought bodyguards along!

The 37-year-old says during an appearance on The View, “They had a playdate, which was fun! They came to our house in the valley with their security detail! There were men outside with earpieces, while we were inside changing diapers!”

That sounds a bit extreme!

How I Met Your Mother star Neil and his partner David Burtka loved hanging out with the superstar and his baby son — but they worry their lifestyle doesn’t quite match up to Elton’s.

He adds, “There will be playdates, I hope, for some time. I just worry that Elton and David’s son Zachary will look at our twins and and say: “What is this Baby Gap you’re wearing? It’s not Louis Vuitton.”
