Did the First Lady and the Queen pick out their white dresses together? I was so surprised to see them wearing the same color!

Michelle Obama is known for her stellar sense of style — and I’m wondering if the Queen decided to take advantage of the First Lady’s visit and ask for a quick fashion consultation! Both women turned up at the State Banquet at Buckingham Palace on May 24, in gorgeous (yet super similar) white gowns. While Michelle opted for a flowing Tom Ford gown, complete with long gloves, the Queen went for a long-sleeved look, also incorporating gloves with her get-up!

Seeing them both show up in white gave me a funny vision of the Queen and Michelle in a dressing room, trying on outfits and excitedly showing one another like teenage girls. Okay, so even if that didn’t happen, it’s still quite a coincidence!

Michelle seems to have an affinity for white gowns, but they all seem a bit bridal for my taste. While she looked stunning, I think I like it better when she’s wearing color. Do you agree?

Considering they’re both known for their stellar sense of style, it’s no surprise they both opted for the fall 2010 tweed dress — but who do you think wore it better? Former pop princess Posh or the fashionable First Lady?

While you may prefer to fly in leggings or sweats, Victoria Beckham likes to travel in style! She was the first to wear this tweed Marc Jacobs dress last year while leaving LAX airport. The superstar chose to accessorize with her signature look, over-sized sunglasses and an over-sized bag and a clutch, both from her collection. She paired it with nude Brian Atwood pumps, bringing together the grey and taupe shades.

Michelle Obama opted for a different look when wearing the Marc Jacobs dress in Washington, D.C. at the Wal-Mart announcement of a comprehensive effort to provide healthier and more affordable food choices to their customers on Jan. 20.  The First Lady wore brown over-the-knee boots and little jewelry. Although the dress looks great, in my opinion Michelle threw off the balance when she wore the wrong shoes.

First Lady Michelle Obama could have been doing plenty of other things on her 47th birthday, but instead she decided to give back to her community. With President Barack Obama and their two daughters — Malia, 12 and Sasha, 9 — by her side, Michelle lent a hand on Jan. 17 (her birthday and Martin Luther King Day) at the Stuart Hobson Middle School in Washington D.C. helping out with the school’s painting project.

Yesterday (Jan. 13) First Lady Michelle Obama wrote a letter to the parents of America suggesting ways that they can speak with their children about the horrific shootings in Tuscon, Arizona last weekend. It’s no surprise that she pays special attention to 9-year-old Christina Green, the little girl who was gunned down at the rally for Gabrielle Gifford, before she ever had a chance to pursue her own political aspirations. We have reprinted the First Lady’s letter, in its entirety, because we feel that all HollyMoms can learn something from her words of wisdom. Let us know what you think of Mrs. Obama reaching out the parents of America. How did you talk to your kids about the tragedy?

Dear parents,

Like so many Americans all across the country, Barack and I were shocked and heartbroken by the horrific act of violence committed in Arizona this past weekend. Yesterday, we had the chance to attend a memorial service and meet with some of the families of those who lost their lives, and both of us were deeply moved by their strength and resilience in the face of such unspeakable tragedy.

As parents, an event like this hits home especially hard. It makes our hearts ache for those who lost loved ones. It makes us want to hug our own families a little tighter. And it makes us think about what an event like this says about the world we live in – and the world in which our children will grow up.

In the days and weeks ahead, as we struggle with these issues ourselves, many of us will find that our children are struggling with them as well. The questions my daughters have asked are the same ones that many of your children will have – and they don’t lend themselves to easy answers. But they will provide an opportunity for us as parents to teach some valuable lessons – about the character of our country, about the values we hold dear, and about finding hope at a time when it seems far away.

We can teach our children that here in America, we embrace each other, and support each other, in times of crisis. And we can help them do that in their own small way – whether it’s by sending a letter, or saying a prayer, or just keeping the victims and their families in their thoughts.

We can teach them the value of tolerance – the practice of assuming the best, rather than the worst, about those around us. We can teach them to give others the benefit of the doubt, particularly those with whom they disagree.

We can also teach our children about the tremendous sacrifices made by the men and women who serve our country and by their families. We can explain to them that although we might not always agree with those who represent us, anyone who enters public life does so because they love their country and want to serve it.

Christina Green felt that call. She was just nine years old when she lost her life. But she was at that store that day because she was passionate about serving others. She had just been elected to her school’s student council, and she wanted to meet her Congresswoman and learn more about politics and public life.

And that’s something else we can do for our children – we can tell them about Christina and about how much she wanted to give back. We can tell them about John Roll, a judge with a reputation for fairness; about Dorothy Morris, a devoted wife to her husband, her high school sweetheart, to whom she’d been married for 55 years; about Phyllis Schneck, a great-grandmother who sewed aprons for church fundraisers; about Dorwan Stoddard, a retired construction worker who helped neighbors down on their luck; and about Gabe Zimmerman, who did community outreach for Congresswoman Giffords, working tirelessly to help folks who were struggling, and was engaged to be married next year. We can tell them about the brave men and women who risked their lives that day to save others. And we can work together to honor their legacy by following their example – by embracing our fellow citizens; by standing up for what we believe is right; and by doing our part, however we can, to serve our communities and our country.

First Lady Michelle Obama, 46, and ex-Alaskan governor Sarah Palin, 46, are now in a battle for who has the better arms! Palin appeared on Fox Business last week with her arms out … and we’ve seen plenty of the First Lady’s guns since she got to DC! Who’s got the better arm-arsenal?

Plus, our experts suggest how you can get toned arms just like Michelle and Sarah!

“Michelle’s arms have better separation from her shoulders,” celebrity trainer John Spencer Ellis says. “Muscle separation is a definitive line that separates the cap of the shoulder from the muscles of the bicep.”

John says that there are three basic exercises you can focus on to get your arms toned too:

• Lateral dumbbell raises for shoulders.
• Dumbbell curls for the biceps.
• Dumbbell dips from a chair for the back of the arm.

John suggests you do these exercises twice a week in 2-5 sets, depending on your ability, with 10-15 repetitions per set.

Celebrity trainer Kathy Kaehler agrees with John that both women are in great shape. “The point I would like to make is that both women workout on a regular basis,” she says. “And if you want to have results of toned muscles you need to add resistance training to the routine.”

Kathy suggests you try: push ups, pull ups, triceps dips, bicep curls, shoulder presses and lateral raises. “They are all great and can be done with your own body weight or 5 pound dumbbells,” she says. “My favorite exercise is also another one you can do with your own body weight. This is the full body plank. You get core strength, and then also by supporting your whole body, you will tone your whole arm.”

“Try to hold this for at least one minute every time you do this exercise,” Kathy adds. “I recommend at least 4 times a week.”

It’s autumn harvest time! Michelle Obama invited some very lucky elementary school students to help her in the White House vegetable garden.

First lady Michelle Obama didn’t have to travel very far in her pursuit of the perfect pumpkin to carve into a Halloween jack-o’-lantern — all she had to do was walk over to her organic garden on the White House lawn! The 46-year-old invited children from local Tubman and Bancroft Elementary Schools to join in her hunt for the great pumpkin as well as other seasonal vegetables, as part of her Let’s Move campaign, which she created as a way to combat the childhood obesity epidemic in the United States.

“The physical and emotional health of an entire generation and the economic heath and security of our nation is at stake,” says Michelle. “The isn’t the kind of problem that can be solved overnight, but with everyone working together, it can be solved. So, let’s move.”

The first lady took her own advice and grabbed a pitchfork to pitch in with the harvest. Earlier this year, Michelle bragged about the bounty of vegetables the White House garden produced. “We harvested over 55 different kinds of healthy food — 55!” she said. “One thousand pounds of food! Can you imagine that?”

Did you know Michelle hates beets?

We think it’s great that she’s getting kids to eat more fruits and veggies. Don’t you wish you could garden with the first family? But, we can’t help but hope that the White House hands out something more fun than apples or asparagus on trick-or-treat night!

Designer Nicole Miller would die to dress First Lady, Michelle Obama! “I would love that project because I have done a lot of sketches,” Nicole told HollywoodLife.com exclusively at the Publicolor Annual Stir, Splatter + Roll 2010 Benefit in NYC on April 5.

“I definitely like her in colors,” Nicole told us. “I would try to put her into something surprising and unexpected. I like her in kind of edgy and avant garde, but not being the fashion victim. She is the first lady so she’s not going to show up in a biker jacket.”

Sounds like Nicole is game for a very prestigious client! We love Nicole’s designs, and think that she would do a great job if ever asked to style the first lady!

Even the fashionable First Lady has some style slip-ups!

It’s hard to believe someone so chic like Michelle Obama has fallen victim to a wardrobe malfunction, but she’s only human! After having such a strong career as one of the most fashionable First Lady’s to ever grace the White House, Michelle stepped out today and, gasp, her undergarments were showing! Can you believe it? I know I didn’t until I saw this photo. While Michelle was festive in a green sweater on St. Patrick’s Day, we couldn’t stop staring at her very visible cami (or bra!) underneath her very thin sweater! Michelle, by now you should know when you’re standing behind bright lights and in front of the camera these things tend to pop out! While you’re mixing colors and single strand of pearls looked lovely, we hope next time you make sure to keep these things hidden! Then again, it’s nice to know that someone as chic Michelle is only human and sometimes these slip-ups even happen to her!
