The Costume Institute Benefit at The Metropolitan Museum on May 6 in New York City brought hundreds of stars to the glorious red carpet. While some stars hit the mark, like Miley Cyrus, others took the theme too far. Who rocked the craziest makeup look of the night, HollywoodLifers?

Met Ball Makeup — Punk Rock Rules

Elle Fanning wore a romantic half up-do but her eye makeup was all wrong! She wore hot pink eyeliner with one inch long wings. On top, she wore royal blue eyeshadow. Color overkill! Even though she’s young and should be talking beauty risks, this was not the right move!

Lily Collins wore blue streaks in her wavy brown hair. Her hair streaks were definitely cool and a big trend throughout the night. Her eye makeup, however, was a little weird. With a bright white base, black eyeliner was added to the crease of her eyes out towards her temples. But then it wasn’t filled in… Very futuristic.

Ginnifer Goodwin‘s makeup was created by celebrity makeup artist Mai Quynh. Mai told HollywoodLife.com that Ginnifer “loves wearing edgy makeup” and that “Ginny loves to play up her eyes and wear fun makeup. She’s never afraid of color or going too bold, and lets me have fun and be daring with her looks.”

She used Laura Mercier products (like Laura Mercier Matte Eye Shadow in Noir, Laura Mercier Full Blown Volume Lash Building Mascara in Black and Laura Mercier Kohl Eye Pencil in Black Violet) to get the “heavy, dark” look. We actually think she looked really pretty — it would just be impossible to wear in real life!

Ever the exhibitionist, Nicki Minaj rocked larger-than-life hair, a cat eye with super long lashes and a bold red lip.

The Met Gala is quite arguably the most fashionable night of the year — and that means you definitely don’t want to wind up on the worst dressed list! Unfortunately for a few stars sometimes a high-fashion risk can wind up landing you in the miss category — and that’s what happened to these stars when they arrived at The Metropolitan Museum of Art on May 6 to celebrate the opening of PUNK: Chaos to Couture in NYC.

Met Gala Worst Dressed:

While Elle Fanning is always one we love to watch on the red carpet, the stylish teen let us down when she stepped out in an interesting Rodarte gown. To make matters more extreme, the 15-year-old sported colorful fake eyelashes that looked more costume-like than couture! Unfortunately not everyone looked perfect in the punk theme.

Gwyneth Paltrow loves to steal the spotlight, but unfortunately she did for all the wrong reasons! The pink was quite blinding and the silhouette certainly didn’t help. Gwyn is known for her fantastic figure, but you could never see it beneath this ensemble.

The Olsen twins always beat to their own drum, and last night was no exception. The theme might have been punk, but they stuck to their own eccentric sense of style — and unfortunately we weren’t fans.

Growing up in the Hollywood spotlight is tough but Elle Fanning, 14, seems to be handling it pretty well. The actress was spotted heading to dance class on March 28 dressed down in workout clothes with a completely bare face. The child star has not yet given in to the glamour and fame associated with her career. Elle is still enjoying her time as a care-free teenager and she still proves to be a beauty without a stitch of makeup!

Elle looked like she was ready to bust some cool, new moves in her yellow jacket, grey tanktop and her black capris. Her wavy hair was pulled back into a messy ponytail to reveal the natural glow of her bare face. Elle’s cute grey and neon pink sneakers were just adorable and added the perfect touch to her sporty look.

It’s good to see that the Super 8 star can take a break from her hectic schedule to enjoy some of the things that she loves to do. Elle most recently starred in the movie Ginger & Rosa. The film is set in London during the 1960′s. Elle’s 16-year-old character Ginger faces tension with her father, who is having an affair with her best friend Rosa.

14-year-old Elle Fanning attended the Santa Barbara International Film Festival on Jan. 29 to promote her new movie, Ginger and Rosa. She typically doesn’t follow the fashion crowd, and now that her style is highly recognized, she is willing to take more risks — but we’re not quite sure her latest look was a step in the right direction!

She opted to wear a simple, age-appropriate white dress which hit right below the knee. She added her own unique flavor by sporting white lace-up heeled boots. She strayed away from choosing the typical pump, platform, or bootie, and many people questioned her selection. We totally respect her for taking a risk and doing something different that may not have been considered crowd-pleasing — but that doesn’t mean we love the look!

The white dress was cinched at the waist, and she added a thin belt to accentuate her petite figure. The whole ensemble complimented her pale skin and blonde hair. Elle still kept it youthful and fun by applying bright green eye shadow and keeping the rest of her ensemble simple. She didn’t do anything too crazy with her hair, which was straightened and parted in the middle. The lack of jewelry also added to the youthful touch.

Elle Fanning, 14, has been trying out cute makeup looks lately — and we are gearing up to steal her style this spring! Would YOU try out her pastel teal liquid eyeliner? We’ll show you how to copy her colorful look, here.

Elle pops her crisp, white dress with some fun pastel colors! Her look is youthful and pretty, but not too grown up!

To try out Elle’s colorful style, try a funky shade of customizable liner like elf Studio Cream Eyeliner in Teal Tease. Use the included slanted mini eyeliner brush to easily smudge the cream formula into your upper lashes. Since the brush is so small, you can get detailed with your application without making a mess. Build on a few layers for an intense blue color, or use one swipe for a more subtle wash of teal. Use a jet black lengthening mascara on your top lashes to make your eyelashes really stand out against the colorful liner.

By keeping the rest of her makeup look minimal, Elle spotlights her trendy eyeliner and leaves her style age-appropriate and fresh. A pretty flush of baby pink blush and a sweep of strawberry colored tinted lip balm are all she needs to pull her look together without overpowering her style.

While so many celebs have jetted away on vacation, these stylish stars were still a fixture on the red carpet! We saw a slew of fashionable frocks on New Year’s Eve, where everyone from Kim Kardashian, Fergie and Zoe Saldana stepped out in a slew of locations showing off so many different trends — but they weren’t the only ladies who dressed to impress this week!

Mom-to-be Kim debuted her first maternity outfit in Las Vegas at 1 Oak, and it was seriously sexy. The reality star opted for a form-fitting, sheer Julien Macdonald dress. Keeping the rest of her ensemble simple, her boyfriend and baby daddy Kanye West was her best accessory. Even though we have yet to see a significant bump, Kim certainly had no issues flaunting her growing figure, sticking to her signature sexy style while ringing in 2013. It may be a new year, but it still looks like the same old Kim!

While there haven’t been a ton of premieres and parties, Kerry Washington was busy promoting Django Unchained, where she opted for a very fashion-forward Peter Pilotto frock. She certainly stole the show, and she looked cool and confident in the printed dress.

One of our favorite young starlets, Elle Fanning, looked sweet and chic in Chanel. The star opts for age-appropriate frocks, and her most recent appearance was no exception. It’ll be interesting to see what else Elle wears this year.

Elle Fanning attended the British Independent Film Awards at Old Billingsgate Market in London on Dec. 9, where the star showed off an ethereal Oscar de la Renta gown from the Spring 2013 collection. Elle is always one we love to watch on the red carpet, and she certainly didn’t disappoint in her pretty floral gown!

While her style is so versatile, for her most recent outing she opted for a dress that was pure princess — what a perfect choice for the young teen! The light pink organza embroidered gown had a bell-shaped skirt and a fitted bodice, and it worked so well with her nude Oscar de la Renta pumps. A neat bun and very minimal makeup finished off the ensemble. Not only did the dress fit her figure so well, but it was the perfect balance for the young star. Not only was it so pretty and feminine, yet it also looked so sophisticated!

I like how Elle kept it simple, keeping the focus on the gorgeous frock — and I also commend her for always looking so age-appropriate and chic. While most young teens go through an awkward phase, Elle burst on the scene and established her stylish status on the red carpet without falling victim to a wardrobe malfunction or embarrassing get-up — how does she do it?

The average teen prefers dressing down in jeans and a tee, but not this fashion darling! At just 12-years-old she starred in a video for Rodarte, while at 13 she landed a Marc by Marc Jacobs campaign.

Whether she’s wearing leather shorts or a gorgeous gown she always manages to steal the spotlight — and I can’t wait to see what she’ll turn up wearing next!
