Behind their newlywed smiles, Shania and husband Frederic Thiebaud are hiding their painful struggle with infertility.

Now that Shania Twain, 45, has a fresh start with Frederic Thiebaud, 40 — after their spouses, Mutt Lange and Marie-Anne Thiebaud, embarked on a heartbreaking affair together — the country songstress is hoping to have a baby with her new husband. But their baby dreams have been shattered by a hidden battle with infertility. 

The couple, who wed four months ago, have been struggling in vain to conceive a baby, having no luck experimenting with acupuncture, meditation, vitamins and fertility drugs.

“She knows conceiving can be difficult for a woman her age,” a source close to Shania explains to Star Magazine. “She really hoped she wouldn’t have to face infertility.” Shania had originally left her baby dreams behind after she felt stuck in a rocky marriage with ex-husband Mutt, but after she fell in love with Frederic, her hope for a child was renewed.

“But nothing,” the source says of their efforts to conceive. “It’s incredibly frustrating; she’s cried over it more than once.” So now, Frederic is trying to get his new wife to consider different options, like surrogacy or adoption.

“He asked her if she would consider using a surrogate, and she’s open to the idea,” reveals the source. “He’s also been calling around to adoption agencies, figuring out how they should proceed if they decide that’s what they definitely want to do.”

Both Shania and Frederic have 9-year-olds from their previous marriages — Shania’s son, Eja and Frederic’s daughter, Johanna. But the source adds that Shania would love to have a daughter of her own.

“She’s really hoping for a daughter, and she’s even been writing songs about it,” the insider reveals. “But no matter what, she’s just excited about having more children around. She loves being a mom.”

Country songstress Shania Twain and her new husband Frederic Thiebaud are eager to have a baby very soon! Pals of the couple, who exchanged vows in Rincon, Puerto Rico on New Year’s Day, say they are ready to start their own family! “Shania feels that having a baby with Frederic will make their new life complete,” a friend tells the National Enquirer. “Ideally, she’d like to carry the child herself, but due to her age she hasn’t ruled out having a surrogate or adopting.”

Both Shania, 45, and Frederic, 40, have 9-year-old children with their exes — Shania’s son Eja with Mutt Lange and Frederic’s daughter Johanna with Marie-Anne Thiebaud. Mutt and Marie-Anne had an extramarital affair that eventually broke up both marriages, leading Shania and Frederic to find comfort in each other and end up falling in love.

As the Enquirer recently reported the couple planned to married this summer, but a friend says that after some soul searching, Shania and Frederic decided they wanted to try for a baby as soon as possible. “Her New Year’s wedding to Frederic symbolizes a new start for Shania,” the friend adds, “with a baby by year’s end!”

Even worse, it was rumored that the woman was Shania’s best friend, Marie-Anne Thiébaud. Suddenly single, Shania turned to Marie-Anne’s likewise spurned husband, Frédéric Thiébaud, for support. Flashforward to today, and the pair are engaged, and pals say their children brought them closer together!

Shania, 45, has a son with Mutt, 9-year-old Eja, who is the same age as Frédéric’s daughter, Johanna. As the four started spending more time together — even going on shared vacations — the single parents found their relationship blooming from friendship to love. And their kids bonded too. “Eja and Johanna have become best friends,” says a source close to the family tells Us magazine, adding that that Eja looks at his mom’s new fiancé as a father figure.

“I’m in love!” Shania wrote on her website. “Frederic Nicolas Thiebaud has been a true gift to me as a compassionate, understanding friend and over time, an amazing love has blossomed from this precious friendship.  Fred and I are happy to announce, our ENGAGEMENT!”

After heartache and major disappointment for both Shania & Frederic, the two are looking to happier times as they plan their wedding!

Country singer Shania Twain is finally ready to say “I do” again! The 45-year-old superstar’s reps confirm she’s engaged to Nestle business executive Frederic Thiebaud, 40, after the couple were spotted dining Dec. 16 at Serafina’s Fabulous Grill in NYC — where Shania was sporting a ginormous engagement ring!

“I’ve never seen Shania so happy,” a pal tells Us Weekly. “She has ended up with the love of her life.”

Marriage has been long due for Shania and Frederic. Frederic was formerly married to Shania’s ex-BFF Marie-Anne Thiebaud (the woman Shania’s ex-husband Robert “Mutt” Lange left her for in May 2008 after 14 years of marriage.)

Shania and Frederic grew close after their exes betrayed them. In August 2009, Shania confessed she and Frederic were a couple after they were seen traveling together to New York City, Canada and Florida.

Shania has a 9-year-old son named Eja with her ex. Their divorce was finalized on June 9  and Robert is currently living with Marie-Anne.

Despite both of their heartbreaks, Shania and Frederic couldn’t be happier! Hollywood Life wishes them the best during this happy time!
