Denise Richards stepped up to the plate to care for her ex-husband Charlie Sheen‘s twin sons, Max and Bob, 4, after authorities removed the young boys from mom Brooke Mueller‘s home. While Brooke is recovering back in rehab, the fate of her young sons hangs in the balance.

Judge Orders Denise To Care For Charlie & Brooke’s Twins

The Los Angeles Department of Child and Family Services deemed Brooke’s home an unsafe environment for Max and Bob, and placed the precious boys with Denise and their half-siblings, Sam, 9, and Lola, 7.

Although it was just a temporary arrangement, a judge ruled on May 7 that the kids should stay with Denise for now, according to TMZ. It’s not clear if the kids will return to Brooke’s care once she leaves rehab, but she was awarded full custody of the kids after she and Charlie split in 2011.

The former model has been in and out of rehab in the past, and a source told RadarOnline.com that authorities grew tired of Brooke failing to provide a stable environment for her kids.

“Brooke was given many opportunities by social workers to clean up her act. Social workers felt that Bob and Max weren’t safe in Brooke’s care. The decision was made late on Thursday afternoon, and the boys are no longer in Brooke’s care. It’s expected at some point the boys will be taken care of by Charlie Sheen’s ex-wife, Denise Richards, who has cared for them in the past when Brooke went to rehab,” a source tells RadarOnline.com.

Charlie Sheen’s Kids Staying With Denise Richards

The former model, who welcomed the young twins with her ex-husband Charlie Sheen, was awarded custody of their children in 2011. But in a surprising twist, the boys are staying with Charlie’s other ex-wife — Denise Richards, who was awarded temporary custody.

Denise Richards Cared For Brooke Mueller’s Kids In The Past

Denise took care of the twins previously when Brooke was in rehab in 2012, and Denise says she wants the boys to be with his siblings, her daughters Sam and Lola.

“They’re our family and they’re Sam and Lola’s brothers, and I can’t imagine growing up without my sister, so anytime she needs help, I’m there for the boys,” Denise told Access Hollywood at the time. “[Sam and Lola] are the best big sisters to [the boys] and they love them. I know it doesn’t seem normal, but it is our normal. They’re little kids and I love children, and like I said, it’s our daughter’s brothers, so I can’t say no.”

90210 is officially more Complicated than ever. Denise Richards was spotted Sept. 26 in Manhattan Beach filming the show’s 100th episode — can you believe we’re almost at the 100-episode mark? — and it looks like she shared most of her screen time with AnnaLynne McCord, who was all dressed up for a game of powderpuff football.

Denise’s character Gwen is a West Bev alum who also happens to be head of an exclusive club for powerful women, so naturally, Naomi wants in!

Of course, nothing’s ever that simple. Entertainment Weekly reports that Naomi quickly “realizes it’s [just] a grown up version of a Mean Girls clique from high school.”

And the madness doesn’t end there! We also spotted the Beverly boys — Liam (Matt Lanter), Navid (Michael Steger) and Max (Josh Zuckerman) — dressed like cheerleaders, as they supported their other halves on the football field. Don’t believe me? See for yourself:

Actress Denise Richards, 40, has been offered a spot on the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, but according to a friend who spoke to the mag, she’s still in debate mode.

Denise is certainly not lacking in the drama department. Aside from her ex-hubby Charlie Sheen losing his marbles last spring with his hysterical rants, the pouty-mouthed actress has also recently adopted an eight-month-old baby girl, Eloise,…and then there’s the case of her crazy trio of dogs, but that’s a whole other story.

“She’s not sure she wants to put her kids in front of the cameras again without being in control,” a pal of Denise said.

But it’s not like she hasn’t had a taste of reality. If any of you guys remember, Denise starred in her own reality show Denise Richards: It’s Complicated on E! in 2008.

So if the rumor is true and Denise joins the cast, will the rest of the Beverly Hills entourage welcome her with open arms? Judging from how Brandi Glanville was treated this past season, it doesn’t look good, but hey, the super tall ex-wife of Eddie Cibrian wasn’t necessarily an A-Lister like Denise.

Regardless, if Dee is in, there may be two cast members on the way out: Taylor Armstrong and Camille Grammer. Although no final decisions have been made by Bravo, both Tay-Tay and Camille haven’t been asked back yet, said the mag.

The actor seems to be a new man in recent weeks, moving his ex-wives and their kids into his LA neighborhood — and snubbing a wild party to celebrate his 46th birthday with his two families. But can he keep up the good dad routine?

Experts say NO and warn Charlie Sheen is setting up daughters Sam,7, Lola, 5 and two-year-old twin sons Bob and Max for a psychological “roller coaster” by making them promises he most likely can’t keep!Beverly Hills-based celebrity psychiatrist Dr. Carole Lieberman isn’t convinced Charlie has changed at all, after his meltdown earlier this year.

She tells HollyBaby.com exclusively, “Charlie is still on a hypomanic roller coaster and needs to be in intensive psychotherapy. He is self-obsessed and is only able to think about what will give Charlie pleasure – not what is best for his kids.”

She’s particularly scathing of his decision to attend one birthday party with Denise Richards, Sam and Lola and another with Brooke Mueller, Bob and Max.

“Having two birthday parties is a prime example of this,” Dr. Lieberman adds. “What fun for Charlie. And yes, the kids enjoyed sharing his birthday with him, but what about the other 364 days?”

Her advice for Charlie? Seek help and start being a good dad for real! “Charlie wants to be a good dad,” she adds, “But he is inadvertently dragging his kids – and apparently his exes – along with him on this psychological roller coaster which needs to be stopped by psychotherapy and medication!”

Dr. Susan Abbott, a pediatric psychiatrist based in Manhattan, agrees that there’s no way Charlie has “snapped out” of his “manic” episode without professional help and that his “inconsistent” approach to parenting is harmful.

“Kids often derive a lot of self-esteem for the attention their father pays them,” she explains.

“To have a dad in and out of your life is a roller coaster. It’s really, really rough on kids to be told daddy’s coming and they don’t show up.”

But there is hope for Charlie: “He is someone who needs to be under professional care,” Dr. Abbott notes. “With professional care, he could turn everything around.”

There were no porn stars or prostitutes at this birthday bash. Instead the hell-raising TV star chose to mark the occasion with two family friendly — and booze free — dinner dates with his exes and their kids!

And he was back on top form the following night for a cozy dinner at the Buca di Beppo Italian restaurant in Encino, Ca. with Brooke, Bob and Max. He even posed for photos, showing off a dinner table packed with delicious food and not a single alcoholic drink in sight!

After stuffing his belly for a second night straight, Charlie took to Twitter once again to tell fans, “Celebrated B-day at @bucadibeppo w/ the boys, Brooke & a bunch of family & friends. Huge portions, stellar staff. We will B back soon..!!! (sic)”

It’s great that Charlie chose to spend his birthday weekend with his children and we hope this is a sign he’s ready to become a real dad to Sam, Lola, Bob and Max.
