While it’s a fact that Leslie Carter, 25, died of a drug overdose on Jan. 31, what drove her to do so is unclear. A source, however, tells People that her envy to be in the limelight was a major reason she fell into a downward spiral.

“She thought she would become the next famous Carter sibling,” states a former manager to one of her brothers.

Although Leslie “loved the attention” she received from the family’s brief stint with reality on E!’s House of Carters and had a single released on Shrek 3‘s soundtrack, fame didn’t hit her the way it did with older brother Nick, 32, and younger bro, Aaron Carter, 22.

“She was always happy for her brothers, don’t get me wrong,” the source says. “But it was tough for her.”

Regardless, Leslie’s stepmom, Ginger, believes she had much darker issues to deal with, claiming the young mom “had a long history of mental illness and was on medication for her depression.”

Kristin McVeigh, 16, died suddenly in mid-July from causes unknown, and little brother Tyler, 10, knew his parents were struggling to pay the funeral expenses. So he decided to round up some of his friends and set up a lemonade stand in front of his Sterling Heights, Michigan elementary school to help raise money for his family.

“We just decided to start a lemonade stand to raise some extra money to help out my parents and stuff,” Tyler, who is charging 50 cents for a lemonade and $1 for water, tells WXYZ. “These guys, their my closest, best friends and they’re just the best friends I know – just the best – helping me get through it,” he added.

His sister Kristin went out with friends, returned home and was found dead a few hours later on July 15, according to Cheryl McVeigh, Kristen and Tyler’s mother. Now police investigators await toxicology reports to determine the cause of the teenager’s heartbreaking death.

“She was just like a very nice person and the best sister you could ever have,” Tyler says of his big sister. “She loved to play soccer and everything. It was her favorite sport… I always helped her practice with everything.”

This little boy breaks our hearts. We hope his family finds closure.

Max Shacknai was hospitalized after the fall last week. Just two days later his dad’s girlfriend – who was caring for him when the accident happened – was found hanged at the same house!

Max never recovered from his injuries and died in a hospital in San Diego on July 17. His death is being treated as a tragic accident – but cops are still investigating how his dad’s girlfriend, Rebecca Nalepa, 32, died two days later.

Rebecca was found naked and hanging from a balcony with her hands and feet bound with tape.

Cops haven’t ruled out suicide, but the fact they are probing her death further suggests there’s a suspicion it may be connected to Max’s accident.

Bizarrely a loud party had been thrown at the mansion the day before her body was found, and the day after Max’s accident.

Rebecca also had a colorful past — before she started dating Max’s dad, Jonah Shacknai in 2009, she was convicted of stealing jewelery worth $1,000.

Jonah wasn’t at home when either incident occurred. The multimillionare boss of pharmaceutical firm Medicis announced his son’s death in a joint statement with his ex-wife, “’With great sadness, Dina and I convey the tragic passing of our beloved son, Max (affectionately known as Maxie). Despite heroic efforts on the part of paramedics and hospital staff, he was unable to recover from the injuries suffered early last week. His loving, kind and vibrant spirit will be forever in our hearts and those whom he touched every day.”

What a tragic and baffling story. Let’s hope the police get to the bottom of it.

Lilianna Moore found the loaded firearm under her dad’s bed and pulled the trigger, killing herself.

The three-year-old had been left alone to look after herself while her dad went on a date nearby with his girlfriend. Can you believe this? What a horrible and yet avoidable tragedy!It’s not known who reported the accident, which took place in St Louis, Missouri on Tuesday July 12, but neighbors recall watching as Lilanna Moore‘s lifeless body was carried from her apartment building by paramedics.

She was rushed to a nearby hospital, but pronounced dead on arrival.

Neighbor Ali Lee tells the Post Dispatch newspaper, “It’s more sad than anything. Sad that you can have a three-year-old running around with a loaded gun.”

Cops are still deciding whether to press charges against Lilianna’s father.

Louisville, Kentucky resident Tasha Parsons may face up to 65 years in prison for allegedly beating her 12-year-old son Devin to death after he hid her pain killers.

Social workers called the crime scene “horrific” after Tasha used belts, hands, and household items to knock the boy unconscious. Devin hid his mothers Percocet pills because he did not like her constant mood changes. She left him for hours before finally seeking medical assistance for the boy. Tasha’s boyfriend Waldo Jones stood back and watched the whole thing. He has been arrested and is facing a felony charge of neglect of a dependant causing death.

“He didn’t want her taking them,” the victim’s grandmother Jeannie Welsh told The Daily Mail. “He kept telling me over and over: ‘Mammaw, I just want my mommy back. That’s all I want’”.

She also added she had strong beliefs her grandson was in trouble.

Cristian Fernandez could become America’s youngest ever ‘lifer’ after being charged as an adult over the murder of his two-year-old brother. But is he too young?

Cristian Fernandez of Jacksonville, Florida is alleged to have beat his 2-year-old brother David Galarriago to death in March and now faces life in prison. Prosecutors decided to charge Cristian as an adult rather than a minor due to his violent history and behavior. But is he too young to be facing a life sentence or does he deserve this kind of punishment?

Baby David died two days after being admitted to the hospital with a fractured skull and brain bleed. The autopsy showed the injuries were caused by blunt force trauma consistent with being punched in the head. So terrible.

Authorities say Cristian had previously assaulted his younger brother and even broke his leg. If he was served as a minor, he would be in prison until he was 21 and then he be released. Is that enough?

State Attorney Angela Corey says, ”It’s one where you go, at what point do you step in, so you prevent another murder, and that’s how we felt in this case. If we don’t intervene now and do the tough thing. We have to protect the public from this young man.”

Research shows that overweight pregnant women have a greater chance of miscarrying or burying their child before their baby’s first birthday.

It is always recommended to be at a healthy weight pre-pregnancy and this new study proves that point. Women who plan on carrying a child should be more cautious about watching their weight, considering obesity could lead to a greater chance of miscarriages or premature baby deaths.

Researchers from Newcastle University in the UK, studied nearly 41,000 single pregnancies between 2003 to 2005 at five British maternity wards. They learned that women who were very overweight in early pregnancy had nearly double the risk of fetal death in utero or up to one year after birth compared to women who fell into healthy weight levels.

16 out of 1,000 babies born to obese mothers died versus nine out of 1,000 babies born to ‘healthy’ mothers.

“Given the rising prevalence of obesity in the population of pregnant women, the rates of miscarriage, stillbirth and infant mortality can be anticipated to increase,” reads the Newcastle University study, which was published this week in the European journal Human Reproduction.

But don’t take this research the wrong way — it doesn’t mean that obese women are unlikely to have healthy babies. Dr. Ruth Bell, a clinical senior lecturer in the Institute of Health and Society at Newcastle University, says most babies, regardless of the size of their mothers, turn out fine. “It is uncommon for fetal and infant deaths,” Ruth tells the Daily Mail, “most women deliver healthy babies despite what weight they are.”

And although diets are not recommended during pregnancy, a healthy lifestyle is, so that the baby can get all the essential nutrients he or she is. “What is important, however, is that women are helped and supported to achieve a healthy weight before they become pregnant or after the baby is born,” Ruth adds, “as this will give the baby the best start to life.”

According to the study, obese women suffer about eight more fetal and infant deaths per 1,000 births than women who enter pregnancy at a recommended weight. And pre-eclampsia – pregnancy –related high blood pressure – was found to be a leading cause of obesity-related deaths.

Although researchers controlled for other factors, including the mothers’ age, ethnicity, smoking status, socioeconomic status and the birth weight and gestational age of the babies, they did not look into how diet, exercise, alcohol or caffeine consumption may have influenced pregnancy risks.
