For those fans of racing, today was the Superbowl, the Oscars and the World Series all wrapped in one. After an exciting race, Jimmie Johnson crossed the finish line first at the Daytona International Speedway, taking the victory!

Jimmie beat out Dale Earnhardt Jr., winning his second Daytona 500 in a row.

Danica Patrick: First Woman To Earn Pole Position Ever

On Feb. 17, Danica Patrick was honored to be the first women to ever win the pole for the Daytona 500, and top the speeding charts. However, while she lead the race, it was the 42 cars behind her that were one her mind.

You may have realized the race looked a little different this year, as the cars were all Generation-6 Sprint Cup cars — making the cars look more like their original make and model. This year, you could tell the difference between Ford, Chevrolet and Dodge vehicles — at least, you should have been able to!

Frontrunner Drivers At 2013 Daytona 500

Racing around the 2.5 mile tri-oval track in Daytona, Fl. the cars hit higher speeds than ever, working to beat last year’s champ Matt Kenseth. The other ones to beat included last year’s second and third place drivers, Dale Earnhardt, Jr. — who’s engine failed after 11 laps at the practice at Daytona on Wednesday. Feb. 20 – and Greg Biffle.

However, one thing this year was safe from? The rain, which is the reason last year’s race was delayed a day.

Danica Patrick made headlines at the Daytona 500 at the start of Nascar’s 2013 Sprint Cup season, as not only did she win the pole, she also topped the speed charts! On Feb. 17, Danica made history when she became the first ever woman to win the pole of the Daytona 500, at Daytona Beach, Fl. You go girl!

Danica had a sweeping victory at the car racing event, as on the second day of practice she topped the speed chart, and then she went on to win the pole!

Speaking of her victory, Danica said that this win will be momentous for car racing.

“I definitely think it’s good for the team and it’s good for Go Daddy,” said Danica to the New York Times. “It’s good for Nascar. It’s good for the race itself. When they mention who is on the pole, they’re going to mention when the race is. That’s good for the whole sport.”

And Danica’s competitors are most impressed!

“She comes into this with a racing background, with a tremendous amount of exposure, momentum, just popularity that we’ve never seen before, especially from a female driver,” said second place driver Jeff Gordon to the New York Times. “For her to then follow that up or start the season off with a pole, it’s huge. It’s big.”

“I’ve always been a big believer in what’s good for the sport is good for all of us,” Jeff added. “So this is great for the sport. The rest of us will benefit from that, as well. I’m proud to be on the front row this year, side by side with Danica.”

We bet every man wishes he had you for a wife, Angie. Instead of asking for chocolates and flowers, you want a day at the race track!

There really need to be more women in the world like Angie Harmon. Instead of spending Valentine’s Day with new diamonds, a candlelit dinner or a predictably romantic night on the town, the actress wants hubby Jason Sehorn to drive her wild…at NASCAR.

“We are going to Daytona for the NASCAR Race,” the excited star, 37, told Hollywoodlife.com Feb. 10 on the set of her Olay Pro X commercial in Encino, Calif. Um, how romantic?

We can’t tell who’s more excited – Angie or Jason, 38. “I said to him, ‘Really? You’re taking me? Or are WE taking YOU!?’ I do love it though, I can’t lie.” She added, “We’re also going to take a little vacation to a house that we’ve got, and then we will be back in a week.”

And get this – auto racing actually MIGHT just be more romantic than we actually envisioned – especially when the parents of three get to be alone for an entire week. The actress admits that she’ll be missing her kids Finley Faith, 6, Avery Grace, 4, and Emery Hope, 13 months, like crazy.

Since her baby girl is still learning to walk, Angie is worried she’ll miss some of Emery’s milestones, including what she calls her “Harrison Ford” style of running. “She doesn’t walk anywhere – she runs – but it’s this very crazy chest-out-and-arms-up-in-the-air-Harrison-Ford-kinda-run. Have you ever noticed in movies that Harrison Ford runs with his chest out? Well, she does it! It’s fantastic!” Angie adds, “I’m just scared we will be gone for five days and then she will be driving!”

Don’t worry Ang, we’re pretty sure that babies don’t develop that fast. If so, just hope you have a mini Danica Patrick on your hands. At this rate, you can spend next Valentine’s Day watching HER at Daytona – which would mean two years of auto-induced romance in a row!
