CoverGirl’s Most Inspiring New Face: A Makeup Artist Fighting Cancer

Talia Joy Castellano, who became a YouTube sensation thanks to her makeup video tutorials, has become an honorary face for the iconic brand — Get all the details here!

Talia, 13, learned the news during an interview with Ellen Degeneres, and CoverGirl released a campaign-style image bearing her face October 17!

The teenager started experimenting with makeup when she was first diagnosed with neuroblastoma six years ago. To date, she’s attracted over 14 million viewers to her video blog. The seventh grader said her popular makeup tutorials were conceived out of her distaste for wearing wigs. ‘I don’t like wigs, they’re so, I dunno… When I have on a wig I feel, not fake, just not me’, she explains. ‘When I put on my makeup I feel like I can embrace those features that I really like about myself. I feel if someone’s looking at me, they’re looking at my makeup, not looking at my bald head….I am just trying to make young girls, young adults, adults, anyone, feel beautiful by using make-up,’ she adds.

Talia now has neuroblastoma and leukemia ‘at the same time’, giving her only four months to one year to live. But that doesn’t stop her from having one of the most amazing spirits we’ve ever seen! When asked how she stays so positive, Talia quoted a line Ellen Degeneres said in her role as Dory in Finding Nemo: ‘When people ask me that, what do you want me to do, be depressed?’ she said. ‘I mean a little fishy told me, “Just keep swimming, just keep swimming!”‘

Although Talia is not sure what her next steps are, but she promises to continue her videos, and says ‘I hope you guys understand where I’m coming from, not wanting to do [a] transplant’.

‘I’ve gotten so many benefits from [cancer]. Having a YouTube channel, having to inspire people and having people look up to me… I adore, I love makeup, using it as my wig… it’s amazing… the journey of having cancer was amazing. But every journey has an end.

After news broke of this collaboration, we’ve been dying to know what Pat McGrath and Jessica Stam have been concocting! New lipsticks, blushes, or mascaras? Videos with step-by-step instructions to get as gorgeous as Stam herself? The suspense is killing us! Check out their tweets and tell us what you think the collaboration might involve.

“Behind the scenes!! Shooting major how-to videos with @Jess_Stam and @COVERGIRL,” Pat tweeted yesterday. McGrath, the global cosmetics creative design director for Proctor & Gamble, has been tweeting a storm in the past twenty-four hours- ecstatic to be working with Stam on this newest project. Her celebrity clientele includes Madonna, Cate Blanchett and Oprah Winfrey, but for right now, she’s all about Jessica!

“Loved the color Spellbound! “@patmcgrathreal: My fave products of today!! Having fun with @COVERGIRL,” Jessica tweeted, with a photo of her favorite CoverGirl lip colors. CoverGirl has been creating buzz on upcoming how-to videos with the awesome duo: “We are so excited about the upcoming how-to videos with @patmcgrathreal and @Jess_Stam will be posted in a few weeks!” the company tweeted.

Although we’ve been given teasers of some behind-the-scenes action, there are still no concrete details of what the pair will soon be revealing. Everyone wants to know what the 25-year-old model, who had a Marc Jacobs bag named after her in 2005, will inspire. CoverGirl tweeted to be patient, saying, “stay tuned for more news about @patmcgrathreal latest #covergirl collaboration at New York fashion week.”

Selena Gomez‘s makeup artist, Karan Mitchell, tells YOU how to get her fresh and clean COVERGIRL beauty look!

Selena requested “fresh and flawless” makeup for the event. Here’s how Karan created the look:

“I started with Selena’s eyes. I selected the COVERGIRL Shimmering Sand Eye Enhancer 3-Kits Shadows for her shadow. I used the medium shade of the palette as all over the eye area. I then used the lightest shade on the inside corners and as a highlight under her brow bone.”

“I then lined her upper and lower lashline with COVERGIRL Perfect Blend Eyeliner in Basic Black. To line the upper lashes I used COVERGiRL LineExact Liquid liner in Very Black and drew a slight wing on the outer corners.”

“I added a few individual lashes and used three coats of new COVERGIRL NatureLuxe Water Resistant Mousse Mascara in Black. This mascara will be available in-store nationwide in July.”

“For her flawless skin, I used NatureLuxe Silk Foundation in Oak.”

“On her cheeks I applied COVERGIRL Simply Ageless Sculpting Blush in Lush Berry under the cheekbone and blended upward.”

“I then finished the look with COVERGIRL LipPerfection lipcolor in the soft shimmering pink shade Sweetheart and COVERGIRL ShineBlast Lip Gloss in Dazzle.
