Angelina and Angelica Sabuco were officially given a clean bill of health by their doctors six months after their separation surgery!

Their plastic surgeon Peter Lorenz said the 2-year-olds are right on track and once they are grown there will be no evidence they were ever conjoined, the Huffington Post reports.

The Californian twins were born attached at the chest and abdomen. Six months ago, Dr. Peter and his medical team from Stanford University’s Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital performed their separation surgery and implanted plates in each twin’s chest in place of their missing sternums.

The mother didn’t find out about the abnormality until MINUTES before giving birth!

A woman in Brazil gave birth to conjoined twins with one body and two heads, but the infants are perfectly healthy, according to The Daily Mail. The twins have two heads, one heart and doctors say all of the vital organs function as normal — both heads have even started nursing!

The 25-year-old mother lives in a rural part of Brazil, so she didn’t have any ultra-sound scans before giving birth. Imagine her shock when she found out only minutes before giving birth that her baby was actually conjoined twins!

The hospital’s director Claudionor Assis de Vasconcelos told a Brazilian newspaper that the mother went to the hospital after feeling strong abdominal pains. “When the doctors scanned her they realized that the baby had two heads and that a normal birth would be a great risk for both mother and baby,” he said. “The cesarean took an hour because the baby was sitting down. Despite all the problems we have as a small interior hospital, we managed to save both mother and baby, which was our aim. And for us it was a great surprise to find out that the child was in really good health.”

The mom and twins were taken to a specialist hospital in Brazil, but they’re expected to go home later this week!

Shockingly, this is the SECOND two-headed baby to be born in Brazil this year! Sadly, the other died a few hours after birth.

The surgery to separate these 19-month-old girls took almost an entire day — and it took doctors nearly two months to prepare!

Last week HollyBaby.com reported that a pair of conjoined twins were successfully separated — but now there’s another success story! That’s incredible odds: According to The Daily Mail, conjoined twins are between 1 in 50,000 to 1 in 100,000 births worldwide.

Maria and Teresa Tapia were conjoined at the lower chest and abdomen, and they shared a liver, pancreas and a portion of the small intestine. Because their small intestines were connected, poor Maria wasn’t getting the nutrition she needed! Their doctor said they had to be separated before it got worse!

Dr. David Lanning, surgeon-in-chief at Children’s Hospital of Richmond at Virginia Commonwealth University, led the very risky surgeries. He and his team took a whole 20-hours to work on Maria and 18.5 hours on Teresa! “Everything just went so smoothly over the last 24 hours,” he said.

The girls and their mom, Lisandra Sanatis, went to Richmond from their home in the Domican Republic two months in advance to prepare. And they’re mini-celebs in their country! Margarita Cedeno de Fernandez, the first lady of the Domican Republic, even came all the way to Richmond to support the family!

Lisandra was weeping with happiness: “It was really my dream and thank God it came true!”

She says the girls are such independent individuals — Teresa is calmer, but Maria is a little tough-girl! “It may be a little strange at first, but it really is what I wanted,” she explained. “I’m so happy to be able to see them be the individuals they were born to be.”

The girls will have to spend a few days in intensive care, but the family said they couldn’t be happier about the surgery!

It took four operations to separate the 11-month-old infants. They were only given a one-in-10 million chance of surviving!

Doctors are celebrating after separating conjoined twins whose heads were fused together. Ritag and Rital Gaboura shared arteries and nerves making the surgery one of the most complex ever undertaken. The babies underwent four operations over four months before surgeons finally separated them! What a miracle!

With no facilities to treat the girls in their native Sudan and no money to pay for surgery abroad, the twins’ parents reached out to British charity Facing The World — who paid for the family to fly to London, where surgeons at the Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children started the painstaking separation process.

The survival rate for twins with Rital and Ritag‘s condition is just one-in-10 million. Their bodies were so intertwined, Ritag’s heart actually provided most of the blood for both twins’ bodies.

That meant any drop in blood pressure could leave both girls with brain damage.

Despite the obstacles in their paths, the specialists treating the twins never gave up hope they could be separated.

The final operation took place in August, and the girls are showing no adverse side effects — prompting the doctors to proclaim it the most successful surgery of its kind ever to be carried out.

Rital and Ritag’s parents are now looking forward to taking their daughters home!

A spokesperson for the couple tells the Mail on Sunday newpspaper, “We are very thankful to be able to look forward to going home with two separate, healthy girls. We are very grateful to all the doctors who volunteered their time and to Facing the World for organizsing all the logistics and for paying for the surgery”

They say twins share a connection, but 8-month-old Joshua and Jacob Spates truly WERE connected! But thanks to surgeons at Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee, the boys are no longer conjoined and are beating all of the odds!

Joshua and Jacob were so-called pygopagus twins, a particularly rare form of conjoined twins in which the bodies are joined back to back at the pelvis and lower spine. The boys shared a rectum, muscles, and nerves, but have their own hearts, heads, and limbs.

The 13-hour surgery performed to separate them on Aug. 29 was very risky, but successful. As of today, Sept. 14, the boys remain in the hospital’s pediatric intensive care unit, where they’re recuperating and being treated for a variety of medical problems.

Keep in mind, just because they’re separated doesn’t mean they’re completely out of the woods. They will have months of recovery and will be looked after carefully over the next few crucial weeks. But, we’re thrilled to hear the boys are thriving!

Imagine sharing a mind with another person. Well, that’s exactly what Krista and Tatiana Hogan of Vernon, British Columbia experience in real-life. In a bizarre yet incredible medical miracle, the conjoined twins, 4, are effectively able to see through one another’s eyes and taste what the other one is eating, while still having different personalities! Mind-blowing, right?

“It’s like they are one and two people at the same time,” Todd Feinberg, the professor of psychiatry and neurology at Albert Einstein College of Medicine tells the New York Times.

Their neurosurgeon, Douglas Cochrane of British Columbia Children’s Hospital, has discovered the unique link – which shows up on brain scans as a line between the two girls’ brains – as a ‘thalamic bridge’. Krista and Tatiana suffer from craniopagus, meaning their skulls are fused together, which affects one out of 2.5 million twins.

Their mother Felicia Simms, 26, says there are many instances that occur between her girls that prove there is a unique neural link between them. When one twin covers her eyes, she can see what her sister is seeing and if one girl sucks on a pacifier or her thumb to calm down, the other relaxes as well (without sucking on her own binky!). INCREDIBLE!

“When they are playing, one of the girls will reach over and grab something from her sister’s side and know exactly where it is without possibly being able to see it,” Felicia explains to the New York Times, “It’s absolutely awesome to watch them sometimes because there’s no way she can see the toy she is reaching for and it’s just incredible.”

In one incident, Krista, who relies on her Tatiana’s kidney and heart, and is the bossier of the two, picked up her juice and said, “I am drinking really, really, really, really fast,” the Times reports. Then suddenly Tatiana opened her eyes wide, held her stomach and said ‘Whoa!’

Dr. Feinberg said he was astonished at their shared sensory experience. “Now, how crazy is that? I mean, seriously! This is beyond empathy – it’s like a metasensory experience. It’s like she has one consciousness and can witness another’s.”

Although the girls are too young to get advanced scans, neuroscientists say the tests they have undergone describe them as “ridiculously compelling.” And it doesn’t surprise their mom.

“If one of the girls is hurt, the other can feel it,” Felicia says, “and if you discipline one the other will also cry.” But she adds that they are just like any other little girls. “They’re two normal little girls who happen to go through life sharing a bubble.”
