Because we all know the real point of the Super Bowl is to watch the year’s best commercials — all that “football” stuff is basically an excuse to refill your snack plate — HollywoodLife.com is eagerly anticipating what Sunday’s game will bring. But first, let’s take a stroll down memory lane and relive our five favorite ads from last year’s big game!

Chrysler Super Bowl Commercial: ‘Halftime In America,’ Starring Clint Eastwood

As a filthy rich Hollywood icon, Clint Eastwood can’t relate to the average American — or even the average human, for that matter — but he still lent his gravelly baritone to Chrysler’s uplifting commercial about Americans remaining hopeful in a struggling economy. I didn’t really understand what he was talking about, but everybody told me it was inspirational, so here it is!

Volkswagen Super Bowl Ad: ‘The Dog Strikes Back’

Sometimes the best commercials are the ones that leave you thinking, “What the hell did I just watch?” Enter Volkswagen’s “Dog Strikes Back” ad, which began as the adorable story of a dog who just wanted to outrun a car — then suddenly turned into an intensely realistic Star Wars parody.

Honda Super Bowl Commercial: ‘Matthew’s Day Off,’ Starring Matthew Broderick

Arguably one of the most-hyped Super Bowl commercials of the year, this spot for Honda revived one of the most beloved slackers of ’80s cinema: Ferris Bueller! Matthew Broderick was just as monotone and fourth-wall-breaking as ever, and even though the commercial wasn’t funny — like, not at all — we’re total suckers for ’80s nostalgia.

Acura Super Bowl Ad: ‘Transactions,’ Starring Jerry Seinfeld

Speaking of nostalgia, remember Seinfeld? Of course you do, because Jerry Seinfeld is a national treasure. That’s why we loved Acura’s 2012 ad, which found the observational comedian doing what he does best: observing stuff! He even brought back the Soup Nazi — which, as we all know, is history’s most beloved Nazi.

Kia Optima Super Bowl Commercial: ‘A Dream Car For Real Life’

The idea of a tiny little man tip-toeing around your bedroom while you sleep is admittedly unsettling — unless he’s actually the Sand Man, and he’s making your wildest dreams come true! And seriously, what red-blooded American man doesn’t dream about cars, bikinis and Mötley Crüe? Terrorists and Communists, that’s who!

Clint Eastwood‘s bizarre chair speech at the 2012 Republican National Convention was one of the few moments that people couldn’t stop buzzing about after the conventions. In a surprising development, Clint has said that whoever asked him to speak (Hint: Mitt Romney) is “dumb”!

In an interview with Extra to promote his new film Trouble With The Curve, Clint says, “If somebody’s dumb enough to ask me to go to a political convention and say something, they’re gonna have to take what they get.”

Clint was asked if Mitt had asked him personally to speak and the 82-year-old actor/director said, “Yeah. Actually, he had some of his people ask.” Wow! It looks to us like Clint is calling Mitt dumb!

Clint Eastwood, Academy Award-winning actor and former GOP politician, revealed Sept. 17 on Good Morning America that his now-infamous empty chair speech wasn’t planned ahead of time.
Instead reading a speech from a telepromter, the 82-year-old film legend spoke to an empty chair during the Republican National Convention as if it contained President Obama.

“I didn’t have my glasses with me … so I wouldn’t have been able to read it,” he explained. “So then I’m just sitting there and the guy says, ‘You wanna sit down?’ and I said ‘No, but put that [chair] next to the podium will ya.’”

Though many Obama supporters were outraged by Clint’s speech and took to their twitter accounts to vent their frustration, the president still remains a fan of the actor. “Well, that’s his bad judgment,” Clint said during his GMA appearance, adding that he is isn’t phased by the negative criticism.

“There is something about the aging process that makes you give a crap less.”

Saturday Night Live premiered on Sept. 15 and no skit was more hilarious than Bill Hader’s spoof of Clint Eastwood and his chair from the Republican National Convention!

The skit turned Clint and his chair into a two-hour road show that “audiences are giving a sitting ovation.”

Clint originally dissed President Barack Obama on August 30 while pretending the President was sitting in a chair behind him at the RNC.

Clint Eastwood, a respected icon in the film community, is receiving bad reviews for his latest performance — a bizarre endorsement for Mitt Romney, where the actor/director insulted President Barack Obama at the Republican National Convention on Aug. 30.

Clint, 82, carried on an awkward conversation with an empty chair, an imaginary President Barack Obama — telling him that he failed to deliver on his promises, and it’s time for Mitt and Paul Ryan to take over.

“How do you handle promises that you have made when you were running for election, and how do you handle them? I mean, what do you say to people?” Clint asked, after addressing him as “Mr. Obama” at one point — another insult!

“When somebody doesn’t do the job, you gotta let ’em go,” Clint added and then drew a finger across his throat.

Even worse, Clint insinuated that President Obama would use the “F” word — ultimately insulting the leader of our country. ”What? What do you want me to tell Romney? I can’t tell him to do that,” Clint said. “He can’t do that to himself.”

The Obama campaign shot back by tweeting a photo of the back of a chair, with Obama’s head peaking over, along with the caption, “This seat’s taken.”

“Clint, my hero, is coming across as sad and pathetic,” tweeted film critic Roger Ebert, one of many who were outraged by the speech.

Saturday Night Live cast member Seth Myers made light of the situation saying, “[Vice President Joe] Biden has to go shirtless for DNC to top it.”

The Romney campaign issued a statement on Aug. 30 saying Eastwood was “ad libbing” and the thousands of people packed into the arena “enjoyed it.”

Will Mitt, Newt, and Congressional members please watch Clint Eastwood‘s inspirational ad that was full of the plain spoken empathy and optimism about America’s future that they should be speaking out about!

Clint, couldn’t have said any better, what 99 percent of Americans have been feeling .

“It’s half time in America too. People are out of work and they’re hurting. They’re all wondering what they’re going to do to make a comeback and they’re all scared because this isn’t a game,” explains Clint to all the Superbowl viewers. “They almost lost everything.”

That is so true. Clint, in this two-minute commercial, says exactly what politicians should have been saying ever since the Great Recession started in the fall of  2007.

Instead of announcing that they don’t care about the poor or accusing President Obama of setting off class warfare – Americans need to hear that someone in power or who wants to be in power feels their pain.

And that they CARE and that they can see a way through these tough times to a better future for All Americans, especially those who are hurting the most.

“This country can’t be knocked out by one punch. We get right back up…we find a way through. All that matters is what’s ahead. How do we come from behind? How do we come together and how do we win?” Clint says, as the commercial cuts to the faces of non-celebrity Americans. Americans who don’t have great haircuts, botox or designer outfits.

Now, Clint was hired to do this commercial for Detroit and the car makers based there. And he points out how Motor City is now up and fighting again. Yes, after almost all the American carmakers went bankrupt and were saved by a successful Federal government bailout.

A bailout that no one seems to credit the Federal government for – not at least any of the squabbling politicians fighting for power now.

But Clint in his Presidential manner, rises above all that and says what we ALL need to hear.

“I’ve seen a lot of downturns in my time and we all rallied around what was right…All that matters is what’s ahead. How do we come from behind? How do we come together and how do we win?…It’s half time America and our second half is about to begin.”

That’s right Clint. Tell it to us.

We do need to hear how we need to come together and not tear each other apart.

Please Clint, will you please run for President?

The bootylicious actress has big shoes to fill in a third remake of this 1937 classic — are YOU excited?

Movies like 2004′s Million Dollar Baby and 2008′s Gran Torino prove that Clint, 80, loves to give himself main roles, but we’re hoping he casts someone a little more believable as Beyoncé’s leading man!

The star of the new movie Hereafter is about to become a father for the fourth and — if he means what he says — last time, and knows that the most important thing he can do these days is focus on raising his four daughters right. “If I had a bucket list, I’d say raising my four girls to be strong, good women would be number one,” the 40-year-old says in the new issue of Parade magazine.

Matt admits he hasn’t had a good night’s sleep in a long, long time

Matt’s new movie, directed by Clint Eastwood, is about what might be waiting for us after death, and he admits it’s a topic that comes up with his daughters. “I think what’s important for kids to know is that your decisions here on earth matter, your behavior matters, and how you treat other people matters. It matters here and I’m hoping that it matters in the afterlife, too. It just comes down to accountability for your own behavior that’s important.”
