Probably the last thing actors expect when giving an interview is that they will have to worry about saving their own lives. But several stars were put in that very position at the Cannes Film Festival on May 17 when a man began firing a pistol into the air.

Christoph Waltz & Others Flee Cannes Shooting

The French TV station Canal+ was interviewing Christoph Waltz and French actor Auteuil live when a man standing extremely close to the set sent two shots into the air. “Bodyguards jumped over the barriers into the crowd and pulled him to the ground,” an eyewitness says. “The police arrived and told everyone to run because there was a grenade in his hand.”

Giving his own account, Christoph revealed that the crazed shooter had actually pointed the gun at him. “I was on a panel at the Studio Canal platform off the beach when a man produced a gun,” he told Mail Online. “I think it was a pistol and he fired but luckily for me they were blanks.” For those seconds — which probably felt like hours — Christoph feared for his life, he admitted.

Christoph and Auteuil were led off stage to safety while police apprehended the shooter. The grenade in question was actually a fake thankfully, though the shooter was also carrying a knife.

Cannes Film Festival Shooter: Just ‘A Crazy Guy?’

No one knows exactly why this man came to disrupt the film festival with a gun without any bullets and a dummy grenade. “It really appears to be a crazy guy,” a police source told Reuters.

You know the saying in Hollywood: “The show must go on.” So after the police had controlled the situation, Christoph and Auteuil returned to the TV set and finished their segment.

What a scary moment though — we’re just thrilled that everyone’s okay!

Robert Pattinson is living the life! The 24-year-old actor landed in Berlin on April 25 after spending the past few days on the gorgeous island of St. Thomas doing re-shoots for the Breaking Dawn honeymoon scenes with his girlfriend Kristen Stewart. Rob is currently holed up at the swanky Hotel de Rome, located in one of the most architecturally exquisite buildings in the heart of Berlin — but he’s by his lonesome!

Even though Hotel de Rome has suites that run up to $6,000 a night, it’s not fun unless he has someone to share it with! Rob left St. Thomas earlier in the morning and parted ways with his lady love in Miami. But he had to immediately jet off to Berlin. Even though Rob was spotted landing with a bodyguard instead of Kristen, it doesn’t mean she won’t fly out to meet him.

Luckily, Rob will soon be joined by Water for Elephants costars Reese Witherspoon and Christoph Waltz as they begin promoting the film April 27. Then, it is off to Paris!

Rob might be the hardest working guy in showbiz but at least he’s staying at his pick of luxurious digs. Robsten stayed at the Ritz-Carlton in St. Thomas where rooms cost a whopping $5,000 a night the weekend of April 23 while shooting Breaking Dawn!

We hope Rob isn’t too lonely without Kristen and enjoys Europe before the Breaking Dawn madness begins.

Water for Elephants was the talk of the town this weekend so it’s no surprise Hollywood flocked to the theaters to check out Robert Pattinson and Reese Witherspoon in love on the big screen. Paris and Nicky Hilton, Hugh Hefner, Derek Hough and more shared their appreciation of the movie, which outshone expectations at the box office.. Did you adore it as much as they did?

Nicky Hilton tweeted what everyone was thinking after she saw WFE, saying it “was a great movie…only problem is I want an elephant now”. Her sister Paris said “Such a fantastic film, so beautifully done.”

Hugh Hefner announced Rob, Reese and Christoph Waltz made an appearance on his Playboy mansion movie screen, dubbing it the “Sunday night mansion movie.” His review? “‘Water For Elephants’ was an ideal Easter movie. It reminded me of films from my childhood. I loved it.”

Dancing with the Stars‘s Derek Hough added his praise saying it was “a great film … I recommend it” and actress Joan Collins called Robert Pattinson a “terrif new leading man.” Not exactly new, but we’ll sure Rob will appreciate the compliment!

Comedian Chelsea Handler was excited to see the movie to support “her girl” Reese. Whether you saw it for Rob, Reese, Christoph, or because you loved elephants, what did you think of the movie? Are you as excited as the celebrities?

Robert Pattinson is spectacular in Water For Elephants! The film based on Sara Gruen‘s popular novel, focuses on the life of Jacob Jankowski, a straight-A student one week from getting his veterinary degree from Cornell University, during the Great depression. His entire life is turned upside down when his parents are tragically killed in a car accident ,leaving him penniless,with no home and unable to take his final exams. Jacob sets off  without knowing where he will go and like many homeless men at the time he hops a train hoping to go West and find work.  Lucky for him, the train he hops, carries the traveling circus-  The Benzini Brothers- and it turns out, they are in dire need of a vet!

Jacob quickly falls for the beautiful star of the show ,Marlena, (Reese Witherspoon), as well as the other beautiful lead, Rosie ,the elephant. The cast is completed by August (Christoph Waltz) who plays Marlena’s charming but sociopathic husband, who is also the ringmaster of the circus troop.

Rob uses his boyish charm to make the audience love him. He smiles and giggles throughout the film as the young and awkward Jacob. While Reese’s character brilliantly dominates him with her stunning beauty and sweet but steely personality. They bond over their love of animals — especially their passion for the mischievous Rosie.

The entire film sparkles with exquisitely sequined costumes and colorfully exaggerated circus sets. And it is definitely a breath of fresh air to see Rob’s intense chemistry with someone other than his onscreen and offscreen love, Kristen Stewart.

The film is a great beginning of a long onscreen career for Rob. And both Reese and Christoph prove once again that they are among the best actors of our time.  I love you Rob and would have stuck by you through anything, but I’m happy I didn’t have to see another Remember Me to prove that!

While you’re watching Robert Pattinson steam up the big screen in Water For Elephants this weekend, take some time to appreciate the fact that he survived filming the movie. In a new interview, Rob tells USA Today he had quite a few close calls with the animals on set, including being attacked by a hungry lion and being knocked down by a horse.

The first “insane” encounter Rob came while filming a scene in which Christoph Waltz‘s character forces Rob’s to hand-feed a ravenous lion.

“We did the first take, and sure enough, the lion just ripped the [prosthetic] arm in and wouldn’t give it back,” Rob tells the paper. “He didn’t even care about the meat. He just wanted to eat the fake arm. I was absolutely terrified.”

Director Francis Lawrence attests to his fear: ”Both Rob and Christoph coined the term ‘no acting required’ in the lion scenes,” he says. “You didn’t have to pretend to be afraid when you were around the lion.”

Rob’s second scare occurred when he came face to hooves with a massive stallion, especially because Rob admits to having a pre-existing fear of horses. He has only one word to describe that experience, which required the beast to knock him down: “terrifying.”

Robert Pattinson’s performance in Water for Elephants is getting mixed reviews! Will you go see the movie anyway, despite what the negative critics say?

We have all been anxiously awaiting seeing Robert Pattinson perform alongside Academy Award winners Christoph Waltz and Reese Witherspoon in Water for Elephants, and tomorrow the wait is over! Unfortunately, movie critics who have already seen the film have released their reviews and while some praise Rob as “entirely convincing”, others are calling him “woefully untalented”, “lifeless” and “dull”. Ouch! Are they being too harsh?

Critics are very split on whether Rob’s performance and the movie itself are entertaining, or utterly boring. The Associated Press says “Witherspoon and Pattinson are a three-ring snooze-fest together”, calling Christoph the “lone attraction” who highlights how “dull” Reese and Rob are. They go as far as saying, “The movie is a long, long way from the greatest show on Earth; at best, it might be the greatest show in your local theater, assuming it’s the only film playing there.”

The Huffington Post is even crueler to Rob, completely panning him in their review. Not only do they call Rob “woefully untalented” they say the “dreadful” movie “rests on the head of the sleepy-eyed Pattinson, an actor so lifeless that you keep expecting someone to put a mirror to his nostrils. Oh wait – wrong movie.” The attack doesn’t stop there: “Pattinson had better hope that someone writes a whole bunch more of the Twilight novels because once those movies run out, his string as a movie star is probably up. He has no discernible talent as an actor, beyond a bedroom gaze that seems to express very little of what’s on his mind.” Can you believe it? Poor Rob!!

The Chicago Tribune is nicer in its review, saying the movie is “Like ‘The Notebook,’ but with an elephant.” The review attempts to compliment Rob while somehow simultaneously insulting him: “Waltz’s archetypal villain cannot help but steal focus when he’s on-screen, partly because of the abuse of which the character is capable, partly because Waltz is just so damned interesting to watch. That’s more than can be said for Pattinson, who is easy to take without having yet made a single surprising or provocative choice as an actor. Yet he, too, is at least in there working his two or three notes hard, and often effectively.” We think there was a compliment in there somewhere.

Moviehole is very positive about Rob’s performance, saying he matches Christoph and Reese “scene for scene.” “Who knew this kid could act?? Well done young man,” it proclaims.”

Finally, the Hollywood Reporter provides us comfort. “Looking 300 per cent better than he did in his last non-’Twilight’ outing, ‘Remember Me,’ Pattinson is entirely convincing as Jacob, a Cornell veterinary school student who escapes from the ruin provoked by his parents’ untimely death by almost inadvertently joining the circus.’ Unfortunately they still think “the vital spark that would have made the drama truly compelling on the screen is missing.”

The reviews are still pouring in so there’s still a chance for more positive opinions. But we are shocked by how harsh these critics are towards the Hollywood heartthrob. Water for Elephants is finally set to hit theaters and the stars of the film, Robert Pattinson, Reese Witherspoon and Christoph Waltz, flew into NYC to hit the red carpet for the big premiere. Rob and Reese spent almost 30 minutes signing autographs for some very lucky fans while other stars including Julia Stiles and a secretive Kristen Stewart were on hand to support the film.
