Fresh off the final installment in the Twilight saga, Christian Serratos is stepping into a very different spotlight — one that reveals the darker side of the entertainment industry. In her new movie Pop Star, Christian stars as a young singer named Roxie who lends her voice to a talentless actress in exchange for the fly/fancy lifestyle she’s always dreamed of. But if that sounds too good to be true, well, you know how the saying goes.

Pop Star‘s executive producer George Caceres recently chatted with HollywoodLife.com about the message behind the movie, the surprise vocal prowess of Christian, and the advice he’d give to aspiring stars and filmmakers.

HollywoodLife: What inspired this story?

George Caceres: The director and I wanted to do a movie for teens that was also grounded with the various realities facing today — especially girls. We wanted to tell a story that not only entertained, but also dealt with self-accceptance, family values and self esteem.

HL: “Heartbreak” and “betrayal” sound pretty intense. Does the movie have its lighter moments, too?

GC: Pop Star is just like real life; there are moments of intensity, romance, and comedy. Roxie, played by Christian Serratos (Twilight) is pursued by two very good-looking guys, played by Ross Thomas (Soul Surfer) and Robert Adamson (Princess Protection Program.) I guarantee the audience won’t know which guy she chooses until she sings the last song in the movie.

HL: Are there any stand-out scenes or moments you can tease from the movie?

GC: I love all of the scenes, but I have to say that my favorites scenes are the ones where the characters sing. Adam H. Hertsfield, the music composer, did an amazing job writing songs that not only helped move the story forward, but also revealed a lot about the character’s inner struggles.

HL: What will audiences be able to take away from this film?

GC: First of all, my hope is that they are thoroughly entertained and inspired. If they get to walk away feeling better about themselves and if they realize that we are in control of our lives and the choices we make, then I’m a happy man.

HL: How was Christian your lead? Can she really sing, or was everything dubbed over?

GC: Christian is a star! Her performance was amazing and she sang every song herself. Wait until you hear her sing!

HL: There is such an ensemble cast, from Eric Roberts to Christian; Do you think the dynamic of having “seasoned hollywood actors” as well as “up-and-comers” is something that sets this film apart?

GC: Yes, there is a good mix of seasoned talent and up-and-coming talent in this movie. Not only do we have up & comer Christian Serratos, but we have Ross Thomas, Robert Adamson and Rachele Brooke Smith (Bring It On) as well. They all had great chemistry! Having actors of the caliber of Eric Roberts (The Expendables) also helped to raise the bar. Everyone had incredible passion for the project and it definitely shows on-screen.

HL: What makes a good filmmaker? What other filmmakers do you personally admire?

GC: A good filmmaker, like our director Carlos Portugal, is one who can bring out the best performances from actors as well as deliver visually stimulating films. I admire many directors, all the way from Alfred Hitchcock to Steven Spielberg.

HL: How important do you feel soundtracks are to films? And what are some films that you think have exceptional soundtracks?

GC: A good soundtrack is key to a movie. The soundtrack sets the tone and moves the audience, especially in a movie like Pop Star, where the music is almost its own character in the story. Most soundtracks these days are based off of plays. Besides Pop Star, I can only think of one other film off hand that has an original soundtrack, and that’s Saturday Night Fever, from which most songs became top 10 hits.

HL: What is some advice you’d give to aspiring filmmakers?

GC: You learn by doing. Start volunteering on friend’s projects. Take screenwriting and acting lessons; it’s just as important to understand how to communicate with actors as it is to shoot the film. The more you understand how others do their job, the better your work. Also, don’t fool yourself into thinking you know everything. You don’t.

HL: What is some advice you’d give to up and coming actors? What are the qualities in an actor that make them great to work with, from a filmmakers perspective?

GC: Know your craft and be prepared, whether you’re auditioning or you’re on set. Take acting classes. Do Theatre – it’s important to perform in front of an audience. You only have one chance to make a good first impression (usually in casting sessions) – you are competing with hundreds of others for the same part. You can’t control how you look, how tall or short you are, but you can control your acting skills; it’s the one thing that will set you apart from all the competition. I look for are Actors who are professional, have a thirst for success and deliver a unique performance. An actor who is prepared and has complete control of his or her craft is what producers like myself are always looking for.

Breaking Dawn – Part 2 would have been one of the most talked-about movies of the year even WITHOUT Kristen Stewart‘s shocking scandal. But ever since she cheated on Robert Pattinson, fans are clambering to see the final installment. Luckily, one star isn’t concerned about how the affair will impact the movie!

Christian Serratos, who stars as Angela Weber, told HollywoodLife.com EXCLUSIVELY that the cast is not worried about sharing the film with fans.

“I do not think [it will be awkward to promote the film], since everyone has been waiting a long time for this movie,” she said at OK! Magazine’s 4^th Annual Fashion Week Celebration. “I know the fans will be happy and that is all I am considered about.”

Kristen recently talked to Entertainment Weekly about how much fun it was to finally play a vampire for the movie.

“I leaped through the air and tackled a crazy huge tube of foam shaped like a mountain lion. I ripped that mother to the ground! For the first time I was like, ‘Wow, I’m, like, really playing a vampire now.’”

Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart may have finally begun talking following her affair with director Rupert Sanders, but the road to reconciliation is a long one. Twilight bosses are reportedly in a panic over how this will affect the upcoming press tour for Breaking Dawn, Pt. 2, but there’s at least one member of the cast who isn’t worried, according to a new report.

Christian Serratos, who plays Angela Weber (Bella’s human friend) in the Twilight saga, tells Us Weekly that she doesn’t expect the scandal to affect the way the film is received. “Of course people are fans of us now, but I think above anything, they’re fans of these characters,” she tells the magazine. “I don’t think anyone’s really [going to] give a s**t. They’re [going to] see the movie; it’s going to be awesome.”

We hope she’s right!

HollywoodLife.com has learned Christian Serratos is starting her next movie, ‘Lip Service’ — and she’ll be showing off her singing chops!

We all know actress Christian Serratos as Angela from the Twilight Saga, but she’s about to make her foray into romantic teen comedies!

The 20-year-old actress will be starring in the film Lip Service as a young singer named Roxie, who has an amazing voice that attracts the attention of a record producer named Eddie (played by Ross Thomas). Eddie convinces Roxie to do voiceover work for a big celeb who’s supposed to be an amazing singer, but can’t hold a note. However, his promises are empty and all sorts of drama ensues.

We think Lip Service sounds a little like a modern day Singin’ in the Rain! The film starts starts shooting this month and will be directed by writer Carlos Portugal (Meet the Browns) and is executive produced by Estilo Productions George Caceres.

Bella and Edward will be surrounded by friends and family on the big day!

The Breaking Dawn team is preparing to film the big wedding between Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart‘s characters Edward and Bella, and the majority of the cast has already been spotted in Canada!

Anna Kendrick, Justin Chon, Gil Birmingham, Christian Serratos and Ashley Greene have all been spotted readying for their scenes on the Squamish set, joining the rest of the cast that has been previously shooting, People reports.

Meanwhile, the cast that’s been stationed in Canada has been out and about in town on their time off. Rob and K-Stew have been spotted having romantic dates together, Taylor Lautner has frequented sushi joints and Jackson Rathbone has been spotted by fans walking around town. Meanwhile, Peter Facinelli seems to have work on the mind, tweeting on March 31, “All nighter tonight @ work. Sleep tight. I’ll be lurching in the woods.”

We’re so happy all of the cast is back together again for the big scene!

Filming Has Begun On The ‘Breaking Dawn’ Wedding Scene!

Kristen Stewart Admits She’s Nervous For ‘Breaking Dawn’ Wedding At PDA-Filled Dinner With R-Patz & Cast!

The massive outdoor set and green screen in Baton Rogue’s Arsenal Park seemed like a perfect fit for Breaking Dawn‘s epic final fight, but it seems like it may in fact be for something entirely different — Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson‘s wedding scene!

Seeing as Dakota Fanning and Michael Sheen were spotted in Baton Rogue all last month, it is safe to assume the final scene has finished filming. It would not take that long to film and as the scene takes place only in the Cullen’s yard there would be no need to use another location.

Sealing the deal however is the fact that actor Michael Welch (Bella’s friend Mike Newton) tweeted,”I’m off to Baton Rouge, Louisiana to work on a new film called Baking Nan.. wait, that’s not it- It’s called Raking Lawns.. No, hold on…”

As fans know Mike is present in only one Breaking Dawn scene — Edward and Bella’s wedding. It COULD be a different set than Arsenal Park — some have suggested they could just be doing promotional shots — but that seems ideal for Edward and Bella’s nuptials!

Do you think the notorious horror movie director could do justice to the Twilight saga?

Now that the fourth installment in the Twilight saga, Breaking Dawn, has been officially announced, the cast is weighing in on who they’d like to direct the film. Chaske Spencer‘s answer might surprise you—it sure surprised us! “Rob Zombie,” he told HollywoodLife.com at last night’s Access Hollywood “Stuff You Must…” Lounge, where he was given all sorts of gifties, like a new Palm Prixi. “He does really good work. And I think he could probably tone it down for Breaking Dawn. I think it would be a really interesting twist.”

Uh… we’re not sure “interesting” is the right word. Rob is definitely a far cry from Drew Barrymore, who Christian Serratos recently told us she’d like to see take on the director’s chair. With movies under his belt like Halloween and House of 1,000 Corpses, we’re sure Rob could handle the supernatural aspect of the film pretty well — we just wonder if the movie would have that same deep, passionate mood. Somehow we doubt it.

Who do you think should tackle the most visually complicated of all the Twilight films?

Drew Barrymore, do you have what it takes to make Breaking Dawn ? Twilight series starlet Christian Serratos, 19, thinks you’re the perfect person to whip the fourth of Stephenie Meyer’s cult teen classics into shape on the big screen.

“There was a lot of talk about Drew directing [Twilight Saga: Eclipse],” Christian, who plays Bella Swan’s bestie Angela Weber, told HollywoodLife.com exclusively at Think PR’s Pre-Sundance Gifting Suite at the W Los Angeles Jan. 13. “I think it would be cool if she directed the next one. I feel like [producers] have been picking really great people, and somehow every director they pick somehow magically matched the book and the movie they were directing.”

Catherine Hardwicke was definitely the right choice to bring out edgy teenage angst in Twilight, while Chris Weitz brought some flash to New Moon. The jury’s still out on Eclipse’s David Slade, though (but pre-buzz says he’s fierce).

Is Drew the right gal for the job? The kooky 34-year-old actress just killed it with her 2009 directorial debut, Whip It! And she’s certainly no stranger to controversial sex scenes (hello, she even starred in a movie called Freddy Got Fingered!) so Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart making sweet, sweet vampire love onscreen would be a breeze.
