As the costume designer for ABC Family’s Pretty Little Liars, Mandi Line has played a huge role in defining the personalities — and, of course, styles — of the four main characters. One of the best parts about each episode is getting to see what looks our fave characters are sporting, and in a new interview with Entertainment Weekly, Mandi reveals the key to perfecting the girls’ wardrobes: buying items off the rack and recreating them to fit each character. While she rarely produces a fashion faux pas, Mandi admits that some of the show’s stars are easier to dress than others.

Troian Bellisario, 27, plays hip-but-preppy Spencer Hastings; and Mandi admits that Troian is, hands down, the pickiest when it comes to wardrobe — but that’s not necessarily a bad thing!

“She’s difficult because she has the best taste in real life,” the costumer says of Troian.

As for the other girls, Mandi says Shay Mitchell, 25, is more of an “entrepreneur,” while Lucy Hale, 23, and Ashley Benson, 23, are kind of oblivious to their increasing significance in the fashion world.

You’re probably thinking Mandi got off easy with only one finicky dresser, but not quite! Believe it or not, she has one other tough cookie to take care of, and if you guessed 45-year-old Chad Lowe — which you probably didn’t — you’re right!. Who would have thought Aria’s father, Byron, would be such a stickler for custom-made shirts?

Mandi explains that he’s a “cool” guy, but says, “I walk out of his fittings. I’m like, ‘I’m out of here Chad. I’m not doing these with you anymore.’”

I’m no detective, clearly, but after watching the Jan. 15 episode of Pretty Little Liars, I think it’s safe to say Byron (Chad Lowe) is looking pretty guilty. Not only is he a creepy dad to Aria (Lucy Hale) and a potentially abusive boyfriend to Meredith (Amanda Schull), but given the new information revealed by his mistress-turned-girlfriend, it’s also very possible he killed Alison (Sasha Pieterse)!

Aria and Meredith bonded over their mutual annoyance with Mr. Lowe — they obviously don’t see eye to eye with Lena Dunham — and Meredith dropped a pretty big bombshell: She knew that Alison had been blackmailing Byron. In fact, Byron came to visit Meredith the night Alison disappeared, but he left her apartment to meet up with Ali!

Of course, you have to wonder: Was Meredith really telling Aria the truth, or does she have something to cover up, herself?

Lucas Remains The Creepiest

With Caleb (Tyler Blackburn) inexplicably missing from this week’s episode, Hanna (Ashley Benson) was forced to confront Lucas (Brendan Robinson) alone to pump him for details about Mona (Janel Parrish). Which is a great idea, considering one of the last times she was alone with him, he TRIED TO KILL HER IN A LAKE.

Anyway, Lucas told her he’s dropping out of Rosewood High because Mona is still torturing him, which prompted Hanna to get all up in Mona’s face like never before. “I know you’re still ‘A’,” the formerly hefty one screamed at Mona, before telling her to stay out of her life forever.

Oh, did I forget to mention Lucas also admitted to starting the fire last week? And to being in the basement earlier in this episode? That kid is not to be trusted.

Paige Traumatic Stress Disorder

Paige (Lindsey Shaw) had herself a little meltdown while out on a romantic — and by “romantic,” I mean terrifying — drive through the woods with Emily (Shay Mitchell). Like, full on hyperventilation. Apparently she’s the only person left in Rosewood with a healthy sense of fear, and she hasn’t been able to pull it together since Halloween. And as if she wasn’t stressed out enough already, Paige discovered “A” slashed her tires, so Emily ran off after him — it was Toby (Keegan Allen) this time — into the night.

Later on, Emily sat Paige down and delivered a really nice speech about not living in fear. Jodie Foster would be proud, for sure, but I’m not convinced. “A” has historically targeted Emily more than any of the other liars; I think she has every right to be scared out of her mind.

Mind Over Mona

Spencer (Troian Bellisario) literally went head to head with Mona as they competed for the title of Queen Nerd — I mean head of the academic decathlon — and it was a rough couple of rounds. They said a lot of words I didn’t understand, mostly Middle Eastern countries, until Mona ended up the victor.

We’re just seven days away from the premiere of the Pretty Little Liars Halloween special, and as someone fortunate enough to have seen it (three times), I promise you it has everything a PLL fan could possibly want:

Hefty Hanna returns: The episode takes place a full year before the events of season one, so Hanna (Ashley Benson) is fully stuffed and ready to strut her plus-sized stuff through the streets of Rosewood. God, I missed that waddle.

Jenna isn’t just crazy — she’s also crazy-hot: Yes, it appears that before her sight was taken from her in that tragic fire, Rosewood’s creepiest floutist had a bit of a slutty streak. This episode really makes me hope Jenna (Tammin Sursok) gets her sight back. Her death-stares would bring the ladies of Revenge to their knees — and that’s really saying something.

New ‘A’ suspects: I promise that once this special is over, you’re going to think everyone in Rosewood is “A.” The characters in this episode caused me to raise my eyebrows so high, they’re not even on my face anymore. I look like Voldemort now. (Thanks, ABC Family.)

So many tears: Halloween may be a time for tricks, but in Rosewood, it’s also a time for drama. From Spencer (Troian Bellisario) to Aria (Lucy Hale) to Mr. Montgomery (Chad Lowe), nearly everyone sheds a tear or two at some point during the episode. Who knows, YOU might even need to keep a box of tissues handy, yourself!

Dramatic foreshadowing: If only the good people of Rosewood knew then what they know now. With lines like “Someday she’ll get what’s coming for her” and “If I told you that, I’d have to kill you” longtime fans will be rewarded for their faithful viewing all night.

There were more than a few questions on our plate Aug. 30 at the start of the Pretty Little Liars summer finale: Where is Dr. Sullivan? Who really killed Alison? And, of course, who the F is “A?” Believe it or not, we actually got some of those questions answered — a rare phenomena in Rosewood — and in typical Pretty Little Liars fashion, we were also presented with a whole lot more.

“A” got the party started by gifting the liars with three dolls, each one carrying a clue as to how the girls could keep Dr. Sullivan (Annabeth Gish) alive. Aria (Lucy Hale) was told to “get rid of Jackie,” Hanna (Ashley Benson) was told to “stop the wedding,” and Spencer (Troian Bellisario) was told to “keep Toby safe.”

Aria learned that Jackie (Paloma Guzman) plagiarized an important paper, one that could get her fired from Hollis — but using it against her turned out to be a bitch of a task. Literally. Jackie showed up at the Montgomery pad, threatening to tell everyone about Aria and Ezra’s (Ian Harding) relationship if she opened her mouth about the papers. (I wanted to punch her through the TV, but realized that probably wouldn’t be a smart move.)

As for Hanna, there was only one way she could think of to stop her dad’s wedding. She pulled Isobel aside in the middle of the ceremony and told the blushing bride all about how her mom and dad recently bumped uglies. Needless to say, the couple won’t be going on their honeymoon. But the wedding wasn’t a total bust: Not only did Caleb (Tyler Blackburn) look dapper as hell in his suit, but he also gave us the best line of the night: “[That dress] gives you backfat.” You got burned, Kate! Burned!

“A” eventually gave Emily (Shay Mitchell) a doll of her very own, and it led her straight to Dr. Sullivan’s car! Unfortunately it also led her to a closed barn, and you know what happens when you leave a car running in a closed area. Though it wasn’t clear whether or not she was still dreaming, Emily “woke up” next to Alison (Sasha Pieterse), who not only revealed that she knows who “A” is, but also delivered a jaw-dropping kiss! “You were always my favorite,” she told Emily. (Wait, did Emily cheat on Maya… with a ghost?)

When the liars finally reunited, they were led into the woods, where they believed Dr. Sullivan had been buried alive. As it turns out, it was a trap set by “A,” and the girls ended up at the police station — where they were all accused of murdering Alison with the very shovel “A” gave them to dig up Dr. Sullivan!

But the biggest surprises were yet to come. A private meeting between Garrett (Yani Gellman) and that blind bitch (Tammin Sursok) revealed THEY were the ones who conspired to kill Alison! And now that they’ve gotten the heat off of them, they’re about to come into quite a bit of money. Dirty, sexy money…

The final moments of the episode revealed that Dr. Sullivan is, in fact, alive. But she’s also being bribed by “A” … and we won’t know why until the second season of Pretty Little Liars resumes in January.

Forget Noel Kahn — the real threat to Ezria’s relationship may be none other than Aria’s mom, Ella!

Aria’s (Lucy Hale) forbidden relationship with English teacher Ezra (Ian Harding) has always had obstacles to face on Pretty Little Liars, but it might just be hitting its most bizarre hurdle yet — her mom, Ella (Holly Marie Combs!) “Byron recognizes Ezra is a very enigmatic person, and perhaps his wife has taken a shine to him,” Chad Lowe tells HollywoodLife.com exclusively.

Chad continues: “He needs to have a ‘how come and what for’ with Ezra to make sure he understands that Ella is a married woman.”

I’m totally dreading next week’s summer finale of Pretty Little Liars – last night’s explosive episode was THAT good!

A storm brewing in Rosewood, Pa., last night — and I’m not talking about the terrential downpour our four fave little liars were forced to endure on top of having to take the SATs. While holed-up in the school for a hours on end, a lot of baggage from both Emily’s (Shay Mitchell) and Spencer’s (Troian Avery Bellisario) past was finally brought out into the open!

While prepping for the SATs in the big storm at Rosewood Day, Spencer awaits the arrival of her new love interest (and resident country club pool boy), Alex (Diego Gonzales), but her mother is a bit taken back when she meets Alex’s eyes. When Spencer finally confronts her mother about her icy greeting with her soon-to-be boyfriend, Mrs. Hastings reveals a heartbreaking secret from her OWN past that she even kept hidden from her husband… but drunkenly spilled her secrets to Alex one day at the country club and swore him to secrecy.

Even though the frosty Hastings family is beginning to warm up to Spencer again, things may be heating up between Aria’s father (Chad Lowe) and Hanna’s mother (Melrose Place alum Laura Leighton). Despite their rather personal conversation over glasses of wine during the storm, it seemed when the storm was over, so was their lingering ‘love-connection.’

Meanwhile, Aria (Lucy Hale) is doing her best to put up a strong front, as her parents relationship crumbles and her own romance with her English teacher, Mr. Fitz, (Ian Harding) seems to be over. While bonding with her middle-school crush Noel over music in an abandoned classroom, the two almost kiss, but are interrupted with the return of Mr. Fitz himself! As Noel leaves them, Mr. Fitz confesses to Aria that he thought about her everyday he was gone. Though he was hoping to possibly start over with Aria, it seems she’s moved on …for now.

As Aria reels over her feelings for both Noel and Mr. Fitz, it seems Hanna (Ashley Benson) and her nerdy friend Lucas (Brendan Robinson) seem to be building a lasting friendship/working relationship with their online business of selling Hanna’s designer duds. While Hanna’s willing to put her queen-bee status on the line to stand up to her frenemy Mona, (Janel Parrish), Lucas takes this gesture in a more romantic way than Hanna may have thought.

Though Aria, Spencer and Hanna were busy balancing their personal lives as well as the SATs, Emily’s was in a different place all together! It seemed that ‘A’s’ target of the week was the sweet sports star, who is still coming to terms with who she is and what (or who) she wants. While lying to the police as well as her friends about her whereabouts from the night before, Emily is blamed by the Detective Wilden (Bryce Johnson) for destroying Alison’s (Sasha Pieterse) memorial. However, to clear her name, Emily’s forced to admit hidden feelings she had for Alison after the two shared a sincere kiss in the quiet corner of the library, just a year before.

With this week’s Pretty Little Liars revealing more and more juicy scandals and secrets, there’s no telling what’s in store for the show’s summer finale airing next week on ABC Family! Will ‘A’ expose who he/she really is and will resident red-herring Toby Cavanaugh (Keegan Allen) reappear in Rosewood to drop another bombshell?

This week’s Liars left us with the best cliffhanger yet, and the mysterious “A” stepped up his/her deadly game of cat-and-mouse with radio shout-outs and personal letters.

When we last left Hanna (Ashley Benson), Emily (Shay Mitchell), Spencer (Troian Avery Bellisino) and Aria (Lucy Hale), they were shell-shocked after reading a cryptic message left on Spencer’s bedroom mirror. This meant that “A” had actually been IN Spencer’s house! Scary, right?

Aside from dealing with all the “A” drama, the girls had to cope with their own personal issues at home. Since the reveal of her father’s past affair, Aria finally got the chance to talk with her mom, Ella (Holly Marie Combs.) But her attempt to clear her conscious did more harm than good, as her dad (Chad Lowe) didn’t exactly divulge ALL the details about his secret tryst with then-student Meredith (Amber Borycki). As Aria’s home life continues its downward spiral, she thinks having Mr. Fitz (Ian Harding) to lean on will make everything better, but “A” even finds a way to meddle in that relationship, too!

Unlike Aria, Spencer seems to be getting along better with her demanding dad. After hearing the news about “her” award-winning essay, he’s totally proud — unaware of the fact that it was actually written by his other daughter, Melissa (Torrey DeVitto), in 2004! Pushed to the brink to by her father, Spencer finally snaps and comes clean about stealing the essay, leaving him speechless.

While Spencer and Aria’s problems continue to escalate at home, Hanna’s life gets a drastic makeover! To pay for the repairs on her boyfriend Shawn’s car, Hanna stars working for his mom at a dentist’s office. Already anxious about her first day at a new job, her nerves are thrown into overdrive when Jenna (Tammin Sursok) enters the SAME elevator and sports the SAME shade of lip stick that “A” used to write the message! Are Jenna and her brother Toby (Keegan Allen) working together against the girls?

Let’s hope not, because Emily continues to grow closer to Toby, bonding over their similar taste in music. After admiring his drawings and dishing on their favorite bands in chemistry class, Toby decides to take their “friendship” one step further by burning a personalized mix CD for her, even sketching her on the front cover. Emily returns the favor later on with a tape of her favorite songs, hoping he’ll like them too! As Emily and Toby’s friendship steadily turns into something more, is she totally forgetting the feelings she has for her next-door neighbor Maya (Bianca Lawson)?

Hannah

Hannah (Ashley Benson) can’t seem to get herself out of trouble — from dealing with her mother’s boyfriend, who also happens to be the investigator in Alison’s murder case, to her insecurity about her weight which leads to a lot of self-destructive behavior.

Emily

Meanwhile, Emily (Shay Mitchell) continues to question her sexuality: Ben or Maya? She has a super inappropriate encounter with longtime boyfriend Ben, while her relationship with Maya (Bianca Lawson) begins to blossom as the two girls get closer. Will they be able to hide/deny their feelings from themselves and others for much longer?

Aria

For as much as Aria (Lucy Hale) judges her father, she really doesn’t seem to be too different from him — her secret affair with her English teacher, Mr. Fitz (Ian Harding), is getting steamier. While the pair try to ignore their attraction and chemistry for each other, it’s undeniable. And it looks like the same can be said for her father’s mistress, Meredith (Amber Borycki.) Wherever Professor Montgomery (Chad Lowe) goes, Meredith isn’t far behind.

Spencer

Not only is Spencer (Troian Avery Bellisario) still trying to clear her name for Alison’s murder — but she also now has to defend herself against her own family after sharing a kiss with her sister Melissa’s (Torrey DeVitto) fiancée, Wren (Julian Morris.) But cheating with her big sis’s man isn’t the only naughty deed she has on her conscience.
