After 1,097 essays, and 33 years at CBS, Andy has stepped down from his ’60 Minutes’ throne — it won’t be the same without him!

Tears streamed down my face as Andy Rooney said ‘goodbye’ during his final Sunday night sign off. The 92-year-old has made a living out of complaining over every day annoyances, but he dropped his curmudgeon act and tugged at my heartstrings during his final essay.

“I wish I could do this forever,” he said. “I can’t, though.”

I’ve grown up watching Andy deliberate over things like: Why is there cotton in our pill bottles? Why do we need watches? What’s a Lady Gaga? To more serious thoughts on war, religion, and now his life.

The New York native started out as a writer for Arthur Godfrey‘s Talent Scouts radio show in 1949 and was years later was hired as a summer replacement for 60 Minutes‘ debate segment Point/Counterpoint. Andy’s witty “end of show” segment began in 1978 and turned into a weekly Sunday night ritual for Americans. Everyone wanted to tune in to find out what or who Andy was going to take on this week.

The talented writer gave us a peek into his life and that’s when the waterworks happened for me. He talked about his late wife Marguerite Rooney, who died in 2004, and showed us pictures of his four children, grandchildren and great-grand children.

“I probably haven’t said anything here that you didn’t already know or have already thought,” he said. “That’s what a writer does. A writer’s job is to tell the truth.”

It’s a battle of the networks, and it’s all over Casey Anthony! Sources tell TMZ that there is a “big price tag” attached for whoever nabs the first interview, but rumor has it NBC might be the winner!

ABC is a tough competition, but CBS is almost no threat, according to the reports.

The networks are said to be paying the cost of licensing photos and material — not for the actual interview itself.

Courteney Cox appeared on The Late Show with David Letterman on April 13 to address a very important issue plaguing Hollywood today: the nip slip epidemic. Specifically, she discussed the now-infamous paparazzi photo from her recent trip to St. Barts, in which she had a bit of a bikini malfunction herself. “I was cold,” she confessed, much to the audience’s surprise.

“I was working it pretty hard,” the Cougar Town star, 46, continued. “It became a joke, like ‘Let’s see how Sports Illustrated we can get.’ I sucked it in, I moved, my arms were stretched out. I don’t walk like that.”

When you think of Charlie Sheen, you think of winning. But could Charlie’s winning ways take him all the way to the White House? If Donald Trump is highly considered to have a chance in 2012 and Sarah Palin has a chance, then anything is possible!

Charlie has been able to revolutionize Twitter and has people buying tickets to a tour that no one knew anything about. He was once on the most popular show on television and is arguably now more popular than he ever has been in his life. Plus, he isn’t hiding anything — like most politicians often do — because he has told us all about his exploits with women, drugs and his rock & roll lifestyle.

It boils down to this: people want to be the president, and they want to be Charlie Sheen.

As crazy as it might sound, if Charlie was president, people would fear what he was going to do next and we would actually gain some credibility with nations that consider us a joke. Charlie would tell his detractors a few choice words and get the job done.

Before you stone me to death, hear me out. I know it will never happen, but imagine how awesome four years in office would be with Charlie Sheen at the controls. There would be endless amounts of awesomeness!

Her new syndicated show reportedly will launch in 2012 –after Katie bolts the ‘CBS Evening News’ anchor chair she’s held for almost five years!

Katie Couric — who broke through the glass ceiling of network news as the first woman to go solo as the face of a nightly newscast — will be following in the pioneering footsteps of Oprah Winfrey to start a new daytime talk show, The Associated Press reports.

Katie shunned a new contract package from CBS that would have included a daytime show and a regular slot on 60 Minutes, according to the New York Post.

Her big move comes as a bit of shock — until quite recently Katie was thought to be ready to stick with CBS News until the 2012 presidential election.

Katie made history in 2006 when she left NBC’s Today Show to take over the CBS anchor desk as the permanent replacement for Dan Rather. Her ratings were strong at the start but she faded to third place in the nightly battle with behind Brian Williams on NBC and Diane Sawyer on ABC.

Now, with Oprah’s daytime program — syndicated by CBS — winding down as the Oprah Winfrey Network as been launched on cable, Katie hopes to fill the gap Oprah is leaving behind.

Katie, who has battled sexism her whole career, has long been described as “perky.” In an interview scheduled to appear in The New York Times Magazine this Sunday, Katie is asked about her “current relationship with the word.”

“It meant shallow and cute, but not somebody who had any depth,” Katie says. “It did become a pejorative word, but listen, it’s better than ‘bitchy.’ “

No one has been named to replace Katie at CBS News — and there are no women among the few top names being floated!

Charlie, sitcom-wildman-turned-merchandise-merchant, burst onto the stage of the ABC late-night show to deliver T-shirts– and a big smooch on the lips to host Jimmy Kimmel!

Charlie Sheen stormed back on to entertainment TV on Jimmy Kimmel Live! March 21, barging in as Jimmy and billionaire Mark Cuban discussed Mark’s plans to go into business with Charlie!

The audience went wild as Charlie, 45, hit the set. He rolled in carrying a bag of shirts emblazoned with his now-famous catch phrases, like “Winning!” and “Tiger Blood”!

“Come on a**holes, up” Charlie commanded the crowd. He hugged Mark, then went right at Jimmy, kissing him square on the lips, lingering for a few uncomfortable seconds!

When Charlie stook a seat next to Mark, he barked ”silence!” to quiet the applause  – and to plug his upcoming live concert-hall tour. “‘I have a show to write!”

He gave Jimmy a mug with a fox logo, a hint about the big brainstorming sitdown he had with Fox Netowrk execs — a meeting that seems to have made CBS get serious about getting Charlie back on Two and a Half Men.

Before Charlie left the set, he handed out his shirts to the adoring crowd — and then he was gone, into the night!

The onetime sitcom star could become a late-night host! That’s just one of the ideas he’s said to be tossing around with network execs. Maybe that’s why CBS wants him back quick?

Charlie Sheen had a secret meeting with Fox to run down possible ideas for his TV comeback — including a late-night gig — according to TMZ.com.

America’s favorite wacko ranter sat down with top executives in entertainment and sports to try to figure what kind of show would work best. They want to capitalize on the meltdown that got Charlie bounced from the CBS mega-hit Two and A Half Men – and then made him  a late-night punchline, a web sensation and now a sold-out touring act!

TMZ says the meeting ended without a decision on the best Fox platform for Charlie — but all of the network honchos were charmed by the off-the-rails wildman!

Word of the Fox sitdown came just as it emerged that CBS President Les Moonves is personally trying to get Charlie back on the air on the Warner Bros. Television sitcom that had been such a big hit for his network. Maybe CBS is feeling the heat from Charlie talking with Fox?

Apparently the squeaky wheel really does get the oil. RadarOnline.com is reporting that CBS President Les Moonves wants the one-man crazy train, known as Charlie Sheen, back on Two and Half Men ASAP – and he’s willing to do whatever it takes to make it happen.

Not only is Les is in talks with Warner Bros. Television, but he’s also reportedly going over head of the show’s creator Chuck Lorre, who Charlie famously spoke out against on The Alex Jones Show.

“Moonves told Chuck Lorre that he should ‘let us handle Charlie,’” a source tells the site. “[He] wants to get the show back on the air. He’s all for it. … He says certain people need to forget anything and everything Charlie’s done recently and just move on with the business at hand.”
