Experts warn that walking around in stilettos can be harmful for moms-to-be.

Just because they’re pregnant, that doesn’t mean that actresses Ali Larter and Christina Applegate are willing to sacrifice their fashion sense. Least of all when it comes to their choice of footwear. Both women, who announced their pregnancies last week (and are already sporting impressive baby bumps), have made it clear that they won’t be surrendering their high heels anytime soon.

“You gotta do it,” Ali tells People. “I love my high heels. I’ll kick ass in four inches, pregnant any day of the week.”

Meanwhile, Christina weighed in on the subject to Us at the Los Angeles premiere of her new movie, Cats & Dogs: The Revenge of Kitty Galore, saying that wearing high heels “offsets the impending growth of width.”

But is it safe for them to insist on such sartorial splendor? According to one pediatrician, it most certainly is not. “Wearing high heels (even wide-based, clunky ones) is not a good idea during pregnancy,” explains expert Jennifer Shu. “That’s because your weight increases and your body shape and center of gravity change, making you walk differently (and less steadily). A fall during pregnancy could hurt you and possibly your baby, so think twice before adding height to your growing girth.”
