The research, published in the Journal of the National Cancer Institute on July 27 and partially funded by cell phone operators, addresses concerns that children may be more vulnerable to health risks from the electromagnetic radiation from cellphones. In reality, cell phones do not affect the risk of cancer in kids. Great news! 

Reuters is reporting that from 2004 to 2008, researchers looked at phone use in 352 brain tumor patients versus 646 control subjects who did not have cancer.

“If mobile phone use would be a risk factor, you’d expect cancer patients to have a higher amount of usage,” said Professor Martin Roosli, who conducted the study at the Swiss Tropical and Public Health Institute in Basel, Switzerland. But that was not the case.

About 55 percent of the patients reported regular cell phone use (average of one call a week) compared with 51 percent of the control subjects, according to the study. The research also shows that 75.3 percent of cancer patients used phones more than 20 times in their lives before they were diagnosed, and that 72 percent of control subjects reported using them more than 20 times in their lives.

“What we found was that there was no (significant) difference in the amount of use,” Roosli told Reuters, adding that if there is a risk, “it would be a really small risk.”

“Brain tumors can take 10 years to form, and young children certainly have not been heavy cellphone users for very long,” adds Devra Davis, author of the book Disconnect: The Truth About Cell Phone Radiation, What the Industry Has Done to Hide It, and How to Protect Your Family.

Roosli said that future studies should examine longer-term phone use among children and he suggests collecting phone records from a bigger group to see who and what kinds of individuals develop tumors.

Scientists have found cancer-causing chemicals in baby car seats, carriers and changing mats!

The terrifying findings mean we could be unintentionally exposing our little ones to harmful substances!

More than a hundred popular products were tested by scientists at Duke University — and nearly HALF caused alarm.

As reported in the Daily Mail, five contained a Penta, a neurotoxin that’s banned in eight states; nine had traces of a TCEP, which California has labeled a carcinogen and 36 contained Chlorinated tris, which the Consumer Product Safety Commission calls a probable carcinogen.

The chemicals in question were found in foam padding used to make the baby seats, carriers and changing mats flame retardant.

Scientsts claim the carcinogens can be absorbed by babies through air and through their skin.

There’s no proof the chemicals cause harm — but scientists fear we’re taking a huge gamble by exposing our kids to them.

The experts are calling on manufacturers to use cleaner products and urging parents to be careful about the products they buy and use.

No particular brands were identified by the Duke University study, but a CBS news report claims chlorinated tris can be found in car seats made by Evenflo and a carrier made by Snugli.

Evenflo reacted with a statement that reads, “Protecting children is Evenflo’s number one priority.”

“Evenflo uses the same types of fire retardant materials to meet strict mandatory federal and state flammability requirements as do automobile and other baby and juvenile products manufacturers.”

When Katrina Hobbs was told she had just months to live, her first thought was her daughter Ella, and preparing the 3-year-old for a life without her mom.

Instead of wallowing in self-pity, cancer-sufferer Katrina Hobbs, 25, set out compiling a life’s worth of birthday cards, video messages, poems and a dossier of life advice, to steer Ella, 3, through life’s pitfalls and hurdles, from beyond the grave.

Mom Katrina’s life took a heartbreaking twist when she was diagnosed with an incredibly rare form of cancer, called Alveolar Soft Part Sarcoma. Katrina first suspected something was wrong when she found a lump in her buttock, but she was turned away by nurses who told her to “stop being a drama queen.”

By the time she was properly tested, the cancer was terminal.

Agonizingly, Katrina, from Somerset, England, was three-months pregnant when the cancer was diagnosed. Doctors were forced to deliver her baby boy early, at 20 weeks, and he didn’t survive.

She tells the Daily Mail, “They said there was no guarantee that either me or the baby would survive if I didn’t have treatment.

‘The loss of my child was harder to deal with than the cancer itself as I had already felt emotionally connected to him.”

She then picked herself up and began gathering the huge legacy of love and guidance she plans to leave her daughter Ella when she dies.

“I know that when she is older she will face tough times and have problems and I know that I might not be there to protect her.

“She might be stressed or questioning herself or her sexuality, for example when she’s a teenager, so I’ve written to tell her not to worry if she’s feeling confused, that it’s natural and she will be OK. If she gets bullied I’ve written to say that it is probably because she is unique, and that she should celebrate that because it’s what makes her special.”

“I’ve bought cards for everything that will happen in her life, from passing tests to her first home, new baby boy, baby girl, for her wedding day.

“Ella is such an amazing girl. She has such a big personality. She says to me ‘We are best friends mummy and we will be forever’.”

What a devastatingly tragic story, and an incredibly brave mommy & daughter.

After several criticisms, the Barefoot Contessa has invited 6-year-old Enzo to cook with her on set of her show.

After six-year-old Enzo was diagnosed with acute leukemia, he was approached by the Make-A-Wish foundation to make a wish. Enzo said he really wanted to cook with The Barefoot Contessa, Ina Garten because he often watched the show from his bed. The foundation approached Ina, but she responded that she was too busy with a book tour. Now, she has made the time to be with Enzo and invited him to the Food Network studios. Great news!The Make-A-Wish foundation reports that she is currently making plans to see little Enzo! Yay, we’re so happy you are doing the right thing, Ina!

Originally, Make-A-Wish asked Enzo to pick another wish, but he said he wanted to wait until Ina was available. Now TMZ reports that the organization went back to Ina again this year and her response was a “definite no,” citing scheduling conflicts. A member of Enzo’s family says when Enzo found out Ina said no again, he said, “Why doesn’t she want to meet me?” Oh come on, Ina! Surely you could’ve squeezed this in??

Two other celebrity chefs caught wind of the story and have now stepped-up and said they’d love to cook a meal for little Enzo! Food Network stars Beau MacMillan and Michael Symon both reached out to Enzo’s family—Beau has even offered to fly the whole family to Arizona and put them up in a five-star resort for a week!

So what happened here? Was this some kind of misunderstanding? Or did Ina really say no to this adorable little boy??

Thanks to his dad’s Facebook friend, 4-year-old Ted Rice is getting treatment for leukemia, a diagnosis that would still be a mystery if it wasn’t for a photo. Ted’s dad Philip was extremely concerned about a rash on his son’s face, so he decided to post a picture of it. A physician friend, Dr. Sara Barton saw the photo on the social networking site. Her reaction was immediate: Get him to the hospital right away.

Philip, an anaesthetic assistant, took Ted to Salford Royal Hospital, where he works, and within a few hours later, he and his wife Sara were given the heartbreaking news that the rash was a sign of cancer and that Ted was battling acute lymphocytic leukemia.

“I had that gut feeling when something is wrong,” said Philip. “Looking back, in my heart of hearts, I knew what was going on but I was so frightened I couldn’t admit it to myself.” But despite the gut-wrenching news, Philip and Sara believe that the Facebook exchange has given Ted a fighting chance.

Ted’s parents initally began to worry when they noticed he was often “out of sorts” and tired. He had an “odd looking” bruise and would randomly get minor nosebleeds. But when the rash appeared on November 25 of last year, Phillip became extremely concerned. That’s when he decided to take a mobile picture of it and send it to Dr. Barton.

Ted, who has a 2-year-old sister Pippa, has already gone through three months of chemotherapy and will continue the treatment routine for three years. He has lost all of his hair and needs a wheelchair to get around, but Philip and Sara are confident he will be strong enough to attend pre-school. And just like a devoted father would do, Philip has shaved his head to match Ted’s.

When I was growing up, I would anxiously await the days I’d come home to find my monthly copy of Seventeen magazine laying on my bed, and I’d immediately flip through the pages to find my horoscope! Instead of tackling my Algebra homework, I’d prefer to sit there determining if my Cancer reading applied to the guy in my Biology class! I’d circle my lucky month dates in my Hello Kitty planner, hoping that one of those would be the day I’d get asked out! HollywoodLife.com spoke to a leading astrologer who revealed this isn’t new news, and since the signs are only thrown off by about a month, I don’t have to stop going by my moody Cancer sign.
