Brooke Shields‘ mother Teri Shields, famous for kickstarting daughter Brooke’s acting career when she was only 11 months old, has died from a dementia-related illness late last month.

A spokesman for Brooke confirmed her mother’s death Nov. 5. Brooke and her mother had a famously turbulent relationship over the years, as Brooke resented her mother for forcing her to be a child star. Teri had worked as a model, a make-up artist and a hair stylist before she became her daughter’s manager, and “it was then that Teri found her career” says Brooke.

Brooke, 47, also resented her mother because of Teri’s problems with alcohol. She said to The New York Times in 1994: “I grew up in an alcoholic household. I’m the caretaker who wants to make everything better, and you can just do that for so long, or so I’ve been told.”

Brooke was seen visiting her mother in a nursing home recently, so hopefully she was able to find peace with Teri before she died.

This just doesn’t seem right. French Vogue is currently featuring some provocative photos showing young girls modeling inappropriate clothes and wearing mountains of makeup. To be honest, these girls remind us of Brooke Shields in Pretty Baby — the story of a pre-teen growing up in a house of prostitution. Yes, they’re that bad. Would you ever let your daughter pose for pictures looking like this?

And we thought a 2-year-old in a pointy cone bra was bad!

The sexy kiddie spread features three girls in elaborate clothing and full makeup, posing in not so innocent ways. One photo shows model, 10-year-old Thylane Lena-Rose Blondeau wearing a skirt that is pulled all the way up her leg, exposing her thigh! Would you want a man — or even an adult woman — looking at your daughter while she is dressed that way? Another shot has the same girl in a low-cut gold metallic dress and sky high heels. There’s a difference between an editorial spread and a perverted one. Whatever statement the editors were hoping to make with this magazine feature, we think they failed on all accounts.

The gorgeous actress and mom-of-two opted for a decadent but low-key night to ring in the big day.

Brooke Shields knew exactly how she wanted to celebrate her birthday. The now 46-year-old actress, author and model was spotted out on the town for a private dinner at Abe & Arthur’s in NYC’s Meatpacking district on May 31 and she enjoyed dinner with her closest friends and family.

She didn’t stop the party there — A birthday is never complete without dessert, and that’s where Thiago Silva comes in. He’s the executive pastry chef at Abe & Arthur’s and has designed cakes for celebs including Carmelo Anthony, Sofia Vergara and Chris Brown. So what did he create for Brooke? It was a brightly colored cake, three-tier vanilla crème, complete with a modern, asymmetrical design.

Brooke isn’t planning to eat cake and relax for too long — she’ll soon return to Broadway as Morticia Addams in “The Addams Family”!

Blake Lively went red in dramatic fashion, Scarlett Johannson took the red-hue plunge, and now here’s the inside scoop on how to get their blazing look — straight from Blake’s colorist, Rona O’Connor!

Rona created signature colors for redhead Debra Messing, brunette Brooke Shields, and now, strawberry-stranded Blake! Rona was even recently named a thisnext.com tastemaker for her excellent eye for color and her history with celebrity locks. She talks to HollywoodLife.com about Blake’s transformation — and the surprising inspiration for her new shade!

Blake’s color was not a spur-of-the-moment decision, Rona explains: ”Blake wanted to do the red for the character for Hick [her upcoming film] and she asked me if we could do this. We planned it a few months ago and looked at pictures and even looked at her little niece and nephew – they’re redheads — and looked at the tones in their hair. And then I got to work and created the red shades.”

Rona calls her work with Blake “a collaboration” and gushes about how amazing the Gossip Girl star is!  ”She’s beautiful inside and out,” says Rona. “She’s a sweetheart, too. Truly one of my favorite people!”

Apparently Blake is also patient — the process took about 10 hours!

Right before the Met Ball, Rona touched up Blake’s hair to make sure it would shine:  ”The color that we did on Blake, we did a week ago. For the Met Ball, I just gave her a little sparkle, freshened it up with a bit of gloss.”
