Diane Kruger looked stunning at the August 10 event and we just could not get over her ultra-chic updo! We spoke with L’Oréal Paris Consulting Hair Expert, Johnny Lavoy, who told us how to get her bun! 

• First, prep the hair with a texturing product like L’Oréal Paris Studio Line Out of Bed Texturizer. Apply product to dry hair, as this is important to give the hair that piecey look and hold.

• Use a medium-sized curling iron to create some face-framing curls.

• Using your fingers, work the hair into a low side ponytail. If you have shorter layers you can twist the shorter strands and pin then into place.

• Twist the ponytail tightly until it starts to coil into the bun and use hairpins to keep into place. Finish the look with a workable hair spray like L’Oréal Paris Elnett Satin Hairspray.”

Hair Tip: Make braiding easier by curling your hair and teasing it with hairspray. It takes away the moisture so your hands won’t feel so slippery when you’re braiding!

Want to wear a trendy side braid but your layers keep coming loose? Copy Ashley Greene’s twisty trick!

Unless you’ve been living under a rock all summer, you know the side braid is the go-to ‘do for all the young starlets in Hollywood like Nikki Reed and Nicole Richie. The only problem is, if you’ve got layers in your hair, it can be quite tricky to get them all to stay inside the braid. Thankfully, Twilight star Ashley Greene is here to give us some inspiration on how to solve this frustrating problem. While out in Los Angeles on July 28, Ashley wore a cute, casual side braid. To keep her gorgeous layers at bay, Ashley simply twisted the front portion of her tresses and pinned it back behind the braid. This way she’s not fussing with her errant strands. Amanda Seyfried sure loves her premiere-worthy braids, which one is your fave?

Everyone in Hollywood is really jumping on the braid bandwagon. I hope you have too! There are so many gorgeous, and totally unique ways to wear them that there’s no excuse not to. Just check out how pretty Amanda Seyfried looked at the LA premiere of her new flick, Letters to Juliet on May 11. I am completely obsessed with this vintage-inspired side braid. I love the swooping side part and voluminous finger waves that lead into the wide, slightly messy braid. It’s totally stunning and a great red carpet interpretation of the spring trend. Just last month Amanda wore a totally different braid to the LA premiere of Mother and Child. She opted for a sleek, classic French braid. What do you think of her two looks? Every time I’ve walked into a store this spring I’ve tried on a cute straw fedora. I never actually buy one because I have no idea what to do with my hair if I were to get it. Fortunately, Diane Kruger was out at Karl Lagerfeld‘s party in Saint-Tropez, France on May 10 sporting not only a trendy fedora but a super-cute ‘do with it! I love that Diane managed to incorporate spring’s biggest hair trend, the braid, into her look. Notice how the messy side braid keeps some volume next to her face, perfectly balancing out the bold hat. I’m also pretty obsessed with the simple black satin bow she tied at the end of the braid. Not only is it totally functional, it also incorporated the pretty black band in her hat, tying together to whole look. Looks like I have found the perfect hat hair look for summer! We all know braids are big this season and I thought I’d seen them worn in every way possible until Nikki Reed showed off a look I wasn’t expecting to see. At the Charlotte Ronson & JC Penney Spring Cocktail Jam at Milk Studios on May 4 in LA the Twilight beauty showed off four braided corn rows on the side of her head. Nikki left the rest of her hair loose and tousled and went for a very dramatic side part. I love that she’s mixing time periods here. Doesn’t the dramatic flip remind you of the 80′s and the cornrows remind you of the 90′s? Makes sense for the 21-year-old to pay homage to the two decades she grew up in. For any of you skeptics out there that think braids are too girly or juvenile looking, I present to you the super-sexy Alessandra Ambrosio. The Brazilian bombshell showed off this stunning side ‘do at the launch of Victoria’s Secret Beauty’s Heavenly Flowers fragrance collection on Apr. 24th in NYC. The key to getting Alessandra’s style is to keep the front portion of the hair loose and messy. Copy her center part and leave a few strands in the front. Then, gather the rest of the hair into a braid. To keep the undone feel, gently pull at the braid from both sides to loosen it up and add some texture. This will make it look more haphazard and sexy. Does Amanda Seyfried look chic or too cute for the red carpet?

Whenever I think of a French braid visions of ballet class dance around in my head. Mandatory French braids meant that I can never take this look seriously as a fashionable ‘do. But, Amanda Seyfried rocked the ballerina style at the LA premiere of Mother and Child on Apr. 19. On her long locks the look almost looks cool to me. Also, the softness on top keeps it from looking too done. I’m not sure I like it as much as some of our Braid Week Winners, but, I am feeling the look on Amanda. What about you?
