A post-mortem examination of Jacintha Saldanha‘s body aims to bring her family closer to understanding her December 7 death.  The 46-year-old mother of two, involved with transferring a prank phone call to the hospital room of Kate Middleton and Prince William, reportedly left her family a suicide note before hanging herself in the hospital’s nurse’s quarters.

Jacintha Saldanha’s Autopsy Results To Be Released Soon

Medical examination of Jacintha’s body has now concluded, and the autopsy results will soon be released. Examiners hope to understand more about her death and officially rule the tragedy a suicide by hanging.

In regard to Jacintha’s case, Labour MP Keith Vaz, the spokesman who is representing the family says, “there are unexplained circumstances. The family want to know everything. All the facts, fully and clearly.”

Jacintha apparently had not told her husband, Benedict Barboza, or children anything about her involvement in the horrible prank phone call that is believed to have instigated her suicide. Her reported suicide note and medical discoveries from the body examination potentially offer the only details that her family hopes to learn about the tragedy in order to get some sort of closure. Mr. Vaz said: “They [the family] were in the dark about the hoax call. They hadn’t watched the news or seen anything about it. They didn’t know they were involved until after Jacintha’s death.”

Jacintha had worked at the King Edward VII Hospital for more than four years. She was widely respected and regarded by the hospital staff.

Kate Middleton and Prince William‘s baby joy has been overshadowed by a tragic event, as the receptionist at Kate’s hospital, Jacintha Saldanha, allegedly committed suicide on Dec. 7. She unknowingly transferred a prank call to Kate’s hospital bedroom, and her brother Naveen Saldanha says she “died of shame.” Now, a new report claims that “she had a lot of live for”. So sad.

Jacintha, 46, was working as a senior overnight nurse in the King VII Hospital on Dec. 4 when she transferred a call to Kate’s room, believing that it was the Queen and Prince Charles phoning for an update on Kate’s condition. The call was actually a prank that came from Australian radio DJs Michael Christian and Mel Grieg. Three days later, Jacintha was found dead.

Jacintha’s husband Benedict Barboza was frantically calling her Dec. 7, and when his calls went unanswered, he asked some friends to check in on her. She was then found dead in the staff quarters of the hospital. The cause of her death is still unknown.

Her awful death has left her family in a state of confusion:

One of her relatives tells People, “She had a lot to live for. There was nothing wrong in her life.”

Jacintha’s family priest Tom Finnegan says, “She was a caring, loving, compassionate wife and mother. The family doesn’t know why this happened.”

Her family is still looking for answers as to why Jacintha would supposedly take own life.

“What the family [needs is] the full facts,” says Labor MP Keith Vaz, who is representing the family.”There are unexplained circumstances. The family want to know everything. All the facts, fully and clearly. The hospital needs to be more proactive, a full inquiry is needed and the family need to be included in that.”

Benedict Barboza has broken his silence and has released a statement regarding his wife Jacintha Saldanha’s death. DJs Mel Greig and Michael Christian of Sydney’s 2Day FM station claimed to be Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Charles during a prank call to Kate Middleton’s hospital room on December 4 — they were patched through by Jacintha. Two days after the incident, Jacintha was found dead from a suspected suicide. 

“I am devastated with the tragic loss of my beloved wife Jacintha in tragic circumstances,” Benedict, 49,  an NHS accountant, said on his Facebook page. The couple’s 14-year-old daughter Lisha used Facebook to write her own message: “I miss you, I loveeee you.”

The Prank Call Backstory

The DJs spoke to Kate’s private nurse at King Edward VII Hospital and were given actual information on Kate’s hyperemesis gravidarum condition.

During the phone call, you can hear DJ Mel posing as Queen Elizabeth II saying, “Hello, I’m just looking after my granddaughter, Kate. I wanted to see how her little tummy bug is going.”

It’s unclear exactly what the nurse told Mel, but she says the nurse, “was giving us real information,” that left her in shock.

“We were very surprised that our call was put through,” Mel is quoted as saying. “We thought we’d be hung up on as soon as they heard our terrible accents.”

Prince William & Kate Middleton Release Statement on Nurse’s Suicide

St. James’s Palace also released a statement on the nurse’s suicide, saying, “The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are deeply saddened to learn of the death of Jacintha Saldanha. Their Royal Highnesses were looked after so wonderfully well at all times by everybody at King Edward VII Hospital, and their thoughts and prayers are with Jacintha Saldanha’s family, friends and colleagues at this very sad time.”
