In an attempt to assert herself as the “cheer-ultimate” instead of just a “cheer-alternate,” Tamara (Jillian Rose Reed) infiltrated Sadie’s (Molly Tarlov) annual team sleepover on the May 7 episode of Awkward. But there was a surprise guest waiting for them at Chez Saxton: the ghost of their slutty, bisexual ex-boyfriend Ricky Schwartz! He came bearing secrets, and like Tom Cruise in that movie, the girls could not handle the truth.

Who Killed Ricky Schwartz?

I loved everything about this set-up. Not only did we get to see yet another layer to Sadie’s tragic new life — the writers are peeling her character like a banana this season — but the whole thing felt like an awesome ’80s movie spoof. The sleepover, the Ouija Board, and of course, Brett Daverns‘ Zak Morris hair.

And is Ricky’s death going to become a legit mystery this season? I could get on board with that, as well as the idea of Sadie being a real witch. I think we all probably suspected the latter, anyway.

Jenna’s Romantic Fart For Matty

As expected, Matty (Beau Mirchoff) living with the Hamiltons turned out to be a complete disaster. Jenna (Ashley Rickards) became so desperate for her own space, that she actually greeted her towel-clad boyfriend with annoyance, instead of a more appropriate reaction – like great jubilation!

In fact, Jenna bottled up so many emotions and so much frustration, that it all came out as one big literal fart. Her anger “personifarted” itself, if you will. And while I was sure that would doom the couple forever, the fart actually cleared the air for once. Jenna and Matty talked out their issues, and now he’s moving over to Jake’s.

But they’re OK.

Other Important Observations

1. Hey, Jenna, don’t think we didn’t notice you flirting with Colin (Nolan Funk) after class. You’re developing such a writer’s crush on him; this is bad.

2. Desi Lydic was so on-point this week. Val’s little pep talk to Jenna was one of my favorite scenes. I could not imagine a more inappropriate guidance counselor, and she’s amazing.

Nikki DeLoach is pulling a bait-and-switch this week. Just one night after making us laugh on Awkward — that was the most uncomfortable dinner party ever, and I loved it — she’ll be guest starring on the May 1 episode of CSI, playing a character she describes to HollywoodLife.com as being “quite the opposite of Lacey.”

Nikki says her character Heather is a “brown-noser” suspected of murdering one of her co-workers during a company wilderness retreat.

But did she do it?

“I don’t want to give away too much, but I will say that she tries to put up a very serious front,” Nikki teases. “As the episode goes on, you’ll see her start to break.”

Still, Nikki tells us it’s nice to return to her dramatic roots — the funny lady is also a veteran of Fox’s North Shore, NBC’s Days Of Our Lives, and most recently, The CW’s Ringer — and that the CSI cast and crew couldn’t have been more welcoming.

“After 13 seasons, it would be really easy for them to get really tired of what they do,” Nikki recognized. “But they love what they do, and they’re all so happy to be there. I couldn’t have had a better time.”

Nikki’s episode of CSI airs at 10 p.m. ET on May 1!

“I’m sorry I took your daughter’s virginity.” Yes, that line was actually spoken aloud on the April 30 episode of Awkward, as the show truly lived up to its name like never before. Jenna (Ashley Rickards) and Matty (Beau Mirchoff) were forced to discuss their sex life over dinner with all four of their parents — but that wasn’t the strangest part of the episode.

No, the strangest part came at the very end when Matty showed up on the Hamiltons’ doorstep — asking if he could crash for a while!

While having Matty under her roof will probably seem great to Jenna at first — the previews show her walking in on him in a towel, which is kind of a treat for everyone — we see that it begins to take a toll on their relationship. Only on television would anyone ever kick that guy out of their house for any reason. (Matty, I have a guest room. Just saying.)

Tamara Loses Her Virginity — And Her Mind

Meanwhile, Jake (Brett Davern) and Tamara (Jillian Rose Reed) were engaging in some awkward sex-capades of their own. “Jakara” was finally ready to have sex, but when Jake’s set-up looked a little too much like the one he planned for Jenna last season — think pillows, roses and the back of a van — Tamara threw a s**t fit.

But because Jake has amazing hair and a surprisingly smokey voice, he was able to talk Tamara down… and into bed. Their first time wasn’t as amazing as they hoped it would be, but I have faith in their staying power as a couple. I’m Team Jake till the bitter end, regardless of who he’s with.

Three Cheers For Sadie

And then, as always, there was Sadie (Molly Tarlov). Palos Hills High’s queen of mean proved to be the ultimate fear-leader this week, dishing out some of her best one-liners yet. (“Yell from your diaphragm! You know, that place that’s located directly under your itty-bitties.”)

I also enjoyed her lack of sympathy for Lyssa (Greer Grammer), who may or may not have broken her entire body. It was very Bring It On, and I love me a good throwback.

The April 23 episode of Awkward was, strangely enough, all about murder. As newly-dethroned vice principal Val (Desi Lydic) interrogated Sadie (Molly Tarlov) about Ricky Schwartz’ death-by-peanut, Jenna (Ashley Rickards) was busy inadvertently twisting a knife in her relationship with Matty (Beau Mirchoff) — and it was a total bloodbath.

Fearing that communication of any kind would lead to a breakup, Jenna tried to put as much distance between herself and Matty as possible. But Jenna’s little plan backfired when a group date turned into a walk down Memory Lane with Jake (Brett Davern), and that’s when things got really weird…

In a twist I had to see to believe, Tamara (Jillian Rose Reed) actually stepped up as the voice of reason for once, telling Jenna to cut the crap and leave Jake in the past. This led to one of Matty and Jenna’s classic chats, in which they both admitted they have no idea what they’re doing, so they basically just made out until the screen faded to black.

Ah, young love.

Spotlight On Sadie

OK, I’m going to put the sillyness on hold for a minute so we can discuss Sadie. Our girl got real tonight, and I’m not just talking about the brutal honesty she shared with her fellow students. (“You’re welcome.) I’m talking about the series of shockingly human confessions she made throughout the episode, from telling Val and that rando detective that she’s a virgin to telling Matty about her depression and insecurities.

Sadie may have had a few killer one-liners this week, but mostly, I was just really impressed with her real-ness. Molly Tarlov displayed a vulnerability in Sadie that we’ve only seen glimpses of thus far, and as season three awkwardly marches on, I have a feeling we’ll be seeing a lot more.

And I wholeheartedly welcome these moments, especially if they lead to more scenes between Sadie and Matty. Their conversation may have happened over the phone, but as Matty showered Sadie with comforting words, it’s like they might as well have been sitting directly on my heart.

(Of course, if the whole Matty/Sadie thing doesn’t come to fruition, I’d settle for a spin-0ff with Sadie and Consuela.)

In summary, I felt some things tonight.

The April 16 season premiere of Awkward brought about a new school year for Jenna (Ashley Rickards), and with it, and whole new set of challenges. Not only does she suddenly have to stomach Tamara (Jillian Rose Reed) and Jake (Brett Davern) being all up in each other’s biz, but she’s also discovering that growing up might mean growing apart — from Matty (Beau Mirchoff)!

R.I.P., Jenna & Matty?

That’s right, “Team Matty” members; you guys are officially in trouble. (Please note: I did not include myself in that. I’ve always been “Team Jake,” and now that he’s got a sexy new ‘do, I support him more strongly than ever.)

OK, back to the Jenna-Matty drama: Our little pasty princess thought she was pregnant on the first half of the premiere, and was very relieved to learn that she wasn’t. Unfortunately, she kind of forgot to clue Matty in on any of the developments above, and he got super-pissed when he found out she’d kept the scare from him.

Is this the end of Matty and Jenna?! I’d be kind of OK with that, to be honest. I don’t care who he’s with, as long as we get more shirtless-under-the-bleacher scenes out of him.

R.I.P., Ricky Schwartz

Yeah, there’s really no way to sugarcoat this one. Everyone’s least-favorite bisexual douche-face died (off screen) from a peanut allergy, and while it was pretty firmly stated that no one will miss him, his death did affect some of the characters in profound-ish ways.

For starters, Tamara got pissed at Jake for disrespecting the dead — she also blames herself for casting a death spell on him — so she declared that she and Jake are “over.”

I’m not convinced their little split will stick, but if it does, maybe she and Jenna can both move on and fight over new-guy Colin (Nolan Funk). He’s very pleasing to the eyes, and he also seems good at school. I like him.

R.I.P., Sadie’s Dollars

While the promo for season three led us to believe Sadie (Molly Tarlov) might be pregnant, the truth is… she’s not with child. In fact, she’s also not with money! Sadie’s parents apparently lost it all, which means she’s finally a mere mortal. 

Fortunately, her lack of finances has only made her an even bigger bitch, so we’ll have plenty of Sadie zingers to look forward to all season long.

Major changes are afoot as the kids of Palos Verdes High School head into their junior year, one of the biggest being Tamara’s (Jillian Rose Reed) new relationship with Jake (Brett Davern)! When Awkward returns April 16, the sappy couple is in full-swing — and Jillian tells HollywoodLife.com it’ll put Tamara’s friendship with Jenna (Ashley Rickards) in jeopardy.

“I always say that I think Tamara and Jenna can make it through anything, but at the beginning of the season, there are some very weird feelings,” Jillian says. “In the first few episodes, you’ll see that Jenna is a little jealous of Tamara, and there’s a moment where Tamara has to stand up to her and tell her this is how it has to be.”

How Will Dating Tamara Change Jake?

“When two people are dating, they often take on traits of their significant other, and we definitely touch on that,” Jillian says. “In the first couple episodes, you see us blending together. It’s really, really funny.”

As for that no-good Ricky Schwartz, rest assured, Jillian tells us Tamara’s slimy ex is a thing of the past.

“It’s just time for her to move on,” Jillian says. “Not only after seeing Ricky with Sadie, but also with Clark. It was such a slap in the face to her. I’m really glad she’s finally found someone who will treat her right. She’s done with him.”

What’s With The New Guy?

As if things weren’t going to be complicated enough in season three, Nolan Funk is joining the cast as new-guy Colin, whom Jillian describes as a “very mysterious character.”

“I personally haven’t had too many encounters with him,” she admits. “He ends up being a student in a class that Tamara is not in. … It’s going to be weird throwing a new guy into a cast that’s been together for so long.”

Thursday nights are about get Awkward! MTV announced that the show’s third season will premiere April 16, and as an additional gift, they released a crazy-awesome trailer previewing the drama to come. Drama like Jenna (Ashley Rickards) and Matty (Beau Mirchoff) trying to keep their romance alive, while Tamara (Jillian Rose Reed) and Jake (Brett Davern) flaunt their new relationship in Jenna’s face.

The trailer also leaves us with a few unanswered questions we’ll have to tune in for:

1. Is Sadie pregnant? While I love the idea of a baby’s first words being “you’re welcome,” I couldn’t help but gasp in horror when the trailer revealed rumors of a Sadie (Molly Tarlov) spawn. I’d be even more horrified if the baby daddy turned out to be — gasp — Ricky Schwartz!

2. Are Jenna & Matty splitting? Jenna may have chosen Matty on the second season finale, but keeping him will be a whole other story. Jenna’s BFFs spend most of the trailer fearing for Jenna and Matty’s future, as she feel him slowly slipping away.

3. A third guy for Jenna? That’s right, the girl who somehow managed to snag both Matty and Jake is about to have a third potential love interest, and just like the other two, Colin (Nolan Gerard Funk) ain’t too hard on the eyes.

4. Ming gets to second? Actually, this one’s not a question. The trailer clearly shows Ming (Jessica Lu) getting to second base. And not with a girl this time!

Beau Mirchoff may not play an over-achiever on MTV’s Awkward, but he’s crazy busy in real life as he raises funds for the pilot of Camp Sunshine, a hilarious comedy about how much it sucks to be a summer camp counselor. Beau says the highlight of his year as a kid was going to Christian summer camp in Vancouver Island — but take my word for it, Camp Sunshine couldn’t be any less wholesome.

Beau plays goofball Junior Handcourt, who may have accidentally blinded a camper who he didn’t know what allergic to seafood. But his fellow counselors are less endearing, like Dean “I’m not a Nazi” Lüger, who can’t wait to become a rockstar so he can do cocaine all day long.

Camp Sunshine is the brain-child of Kanin Guntzelman and Will Masterson, and when they showed Beau the script, he knew he wanted to be a part of it. But they’re not exactly taking the traditional path to production.

“They wanted to keep their creative integrity with it, so we mulled it over and decided the best plan of action was to have the inclusion of Kickstarter,” Beau tells HollywoodLife.com. “It’s such an interactive way for fans to get involved in the content they want to see produced. So we took the grass roots approach, and so far, it’s been very positive. People seem very excited.”

Fans can log onto Camp Sunshine‘s Kickstarter page to donate — $2 is the minimum, but more is obviously encouraged — towards the show’s $28,000 goal. With only four days left, I’m sure they’d appreciate donations now more than ever.

As for how Beau would hypothetically juggle filming both Awkward and Camp Sunshine? Beau says, “That would be a great problem to have.”

And just in case you need another reason to open up your wallets — though I can’t imagine why you’re still not convinced — here’s a music video Beau and Kanin put together, urging you to give them your money… bitch.
