For this week’s ‘ask a stylist’ series we chatted with celeb stylist Isabel Dupré, who has had the privilege of working with some of the most stylish stars around, including Jennifer Lopez and Angelina Jolie. Isabel answered your questions regarding how to look cute in the cold and what to wear when you’re taking winter vacations. Read on for her expert tips and tricks!

To look cute running errands in the cold:
“I still love the UGG boots. The classic ones in black. Nice when they have a little personal touch (few studs maybe, something with a do-it-yourself vibe). If I need to carry a lot, my must-have is the Prada nylon back pack. They are expensive, but I have had mine for years so it is an investment piece. Always a hat, nothing too weird – just a nice wool hat.If feet and head are covered you’re all good. Montclair is great for very warm and light jackets, and the collaboration with great designers made very cute products. Keep the proportions right. If you’re bulky on top, you will need skinny legs, so I recommend leggings or skinny jeans. Finish the look with sunglasses, if it is sunny.”

What to wear on ski vacations:
“Skiing with the right gears. Forget fashion, go for the pros. Gortex is needed. Killy, North Face has great stuff — it’s classic and not too hip. Number one item: sunscreen (Face Place collagens moisturizer with SPF 15). Fashion item: the fur snood from Helmut Lang, it’s affordable and soooo soft. Après ski: Moon boots with leggings are still the most flattering thing, from the real thing to Chanel’s. A pair of Wolford tights, if really cold. Pair a sexy T-shirt under a warm sweater, layering is key to adapt. Ralph Lauren has very nice cashmere dresses that could work too and great après ski pieces — and keep the fur snood.”

For this week’s ‘ask a stylist’ series, we’re tackling the difficult task of dressing in an appropriate, festive and stylish outfit for the slew of holiday parties you probably have coming up. We asked, and your main concern was what to wear when spending time with your boyfriend’s family and in front of the boss. We caught up with Rachel Zoe at the Piperlime Piping Hot Lounge in NYC where she shared her advice that’ll keep you looking neat and effortlessly chic for both your work and family parties.

How can you look cute while still dressing appropriate for a holiday work function or when you’re meeting your boyfriend’s family?
“A lot of times those things are after work so I always say you gotta go for a day-to-night look. I think maybe a short dress with tights and flat boots or flats and, like, a great blazer over it. After work before you head out to the party put on your pumps, throw your hair up, take the jacket off and put on a red lip and you’re ready to go!”

I love dressing festive in sequins, especially around the holiday! Should I leave the sequins at home if I’m going to see my boyfriend’s family?
“No! There’s always a time for sequins isn’t there? I would never rule out sequins as an option for anything.”

“Fall is all about delicious Bordeaux colored pieces, black lace, fur accents, gauzy fabrics and NEON!”

“Geometric patterns are definitely a big trend this fall, especially Native American Indian patterns. Go bold with a patterned dress paired with tights and shearling booties. If that’s all a bit intense for you, choose one item like a scarf to be the focus of your look or a little more subtle with a fabulous glamazon geometric necklace to dress up a crewneck sweater and pants.”

“Weekend casual for me is all about great knits. Graphic color blocked retro prints will keep you on trend even on your days off.”

“Don’t forge to accessorize! Find a fabulously bold cocktail ring or a colorful clutch to brighten up your look. Bright pops of color are definitely still a must this season!”

If I’m super skinny or curvy, what current trends should I use to enhance my figure?
“Show off your curves with a lean riding jacket that you can cinch in at the waist, pair with a pair of skinny pants and a fabulous pair of lace up booties. Showcase your gorgeous gams and keep warm with a pair of burgundy opaque tights under shorts or skirts. Maxi skirts and dresses are bang on trend this season so load up and enjoy! Darker colors are more flattering and you can jazz them up with a chunky knit cardigan or a colorful scarf and big jewelry. Color blocking is still very on trend so take advantage and play around with the colors and shapes and go for a bright loose blouse paired with a tighter fitted a pencil skirt and big gold jewelry.”

“If you are super skinny then a lot of the draped dresses we’re seeing this season will be a fabulous way to give you some shape. High-waisted pants are a real trend this fall and they really are gorgeous on a tall slim body type. A long, slim-fitted dress with colorful horizontal lines is fun and flirty and something that pretty much only your body type will be able to get away with! We’ll try not to look at you and turn green with envy! I love the look of menswear on a skinny frame, just be sure to add a feminine touch with a sexy cami or a cozy cashmere.”

Considering Kristen Stewart has a knack for looking effortlessly cool whether she’s wearing a high-fashion mini or a vintage tee, we thought the woman behind her memorable get-ups would be the best person to consult for this week’s ‘Ask A Stylist’ post! We got to chat with Tara Swennen, who answered YOUR questions about how to rock Converse. She also told us how you can incorporate trendy fall items into your wardrobe if you have a more classic look.

Can someone who’s more preppy (and not punky) pull off a pair of Converse sneakers? If so, what should they wear them with?
“Converse is the universal “All American” sneaker — it’s great for anyone from teenage kids to soccer moms.
Try pairing a white low-top or slip-on with a capri skinny jean or a cuffed cropped chino — both looks paired with a classic tee, plaid shirt or classic white button down give you a casual and timeless look. You can also play up certain colors or accents in your outfit (scarves, bag, etc…) by matching them to the fun prints that Converse offer.”

I have a very classic look, and I like keeping my style simple and elegant but I want to try some of the new fall trends, like colored denim, flares, leather. How can I do so without changing my whole entire look?
“All of these pieces can be used in a simple and elegant style:
With colored denim: simply opt for less vibrant colors — there are beautiful neutral tones and olives that are little less crazy than neons and bright rainbow colors that will be easier to pair with your wardrobe staples.

For flares: the trick is simply to make sure the flare is the appropriate width for your frame and not too overwhelming. When skimming the floor and paired with a super high heel, this look can be one of the most elongating and flattering looks in a pant on anyone.

Leather: The key to leather is simply not going overboard with it and choosing cuts that fit your shape! Most people can wear a cropped leather jacket — opt for classic black, chocolate brown or a smooth tan. Keep fringe to a minimum and only on accessories if it could overpower you. If clothing is still too overwhelming — always remember accessories! Stick to a beautiful leather boot or a great leather tote for the perfect leather accent!”

With so many open-toed booties, pumps, and even sandals in winter-ready fabrics, like suede, the fall and winter definitely isn’t time to shy away from the style — but how can you work the trend when the weather isn’t warm? Luckily we got to ask Cristina Ehrlich — not only is she the celebrity stylist behind Ashley Greene‘s classic and chic get-ups, but she’s also an ambassador to Via Spiga. We caught up with her in the shoe boutique where she shared us the perfect tips and tricks! Regardless of your age or sense of style, you’ll be able to work the look with her tips!

“Depending on your general style, I think you can tell when you see a girl wearing a little chunky sandal and an ankle sock that it’s really genuine to her. I think it’s a taste-by-taste situation. But I’m an advocate to being open and playing around with hosiery and socks with open-toed shoes. Try to experiment, but be realistic. I think a younger demographic can pull off a cutesy ankle sock, where as more sophisticated women that are older should experiment with tights — try a colored tight and see how it plays out. If that’s pushing it too far, try a black stocking. I don’t think women should feel limited to thinking they can’t wear an open-toed shoe in the winter and they should just play around and explore what looks best for them.”

“Another thing I really love this season is the ankle boot. With a chic little ankle boot you have so many options — there’s so many different ways to wear it! It looks great with a pencil skirt and is a nice alternative to a high-heel, but also looks great with slacks or jeans.”

We got to catch up with renowned celebrity stylist and Via Spiga ambassador Cristina Ehrlich, who was on hand at the shoe boutique in NYC on Aug. 30 offering up her personal tips for shoe shopping this fall. Cristina believes in a classic, less-is-more approach both on and off the red carpet — which is why we weren’t surprised to hear that she’s a huge fan of both Catherine, the Duchess of Cambridge and her sister, Pippa Middleton!

“Both of them have really, really great style and I’m excited for them. I can’t wait to see what they’re going to bring to fashion,” Cristina said. The stylist also weighed in on their ability to look effortlessly chic without breaking the bank. “I was actually just reading an article about how Pippa has reintroduced the idea that women don’t have have to spend hundreds and thousands of dollars per outfit. It isn’t about that — it’s more about classic and timeless sensibility and both of them have that.”

From re-wearing to solo shopping trips to stores like Zara, Kate proves that being royalty hasn’t changed her shopping habits — and Cristina applauds her. “Fashion-wise, for London it’s huge. The way their marriage and they way everything has been handled is so English, but also very refreshing.”

Deciding on what to wear to work or an internship certainly isn’t as easy. With a variety of dress codes depending on your profession, you want to be sure to get it right. This week, we passed your questions along to Wendi & Nicole, the dynamic styling duo behind the great get-ups we’ve seen on Elizabeth Banks and Rosario Dawson, to name a few. While something classic and conservative will never go out of style, this week our readers weighed in, asking how they can look cute in a more relaxed setting — but that doesn’t mean our stylists didn’t dish out advice for gals who work in a more formal environment! We also have tips on how to take your office look from day to night if you’re prepping for a date or dinner post-work. Read on to see what they had to say.

I work in a more relaxed setting and while I love being comfortable at work, I don’t want to look like a slob. What can I wear that is comfy and cute?
“First things first, invest in a lightweight blouse (and a camisole, only because you are at work). It is fall’s answer to the t-shirt!……When choosing your blouse, make sure it has a nice drape and fit. When you wear it roll up the sleeves and leave the first two buttons open, always tuck it in! Tuck your blouse into a pair of tailored, high waisted shorts or pants, and always finish the look with a belt if there are loops. Or try it with a pencil skirt, and embrace the return of the 40′s silhouette. You can also wear your blouse with a midi (skirt that hits mid-calf), another fall staple. Make sure you find the midi style, fabric and weight that is best for your body type. When wearing the midi, it’s all about balance. For example if the midi is full, the top needs to be fitted.”

I work in a very corporate environment, and sometimes my slacks and shirts seem so boring! How can I add a little flair to my look in an appropriate way? How can I take my look from day to night if I have a date but don’t have time to totally change?
“If you’re really ready to wow, go for the printed pant, and pair it with a solid top or fitted blazer. Or switch it around and go for a printed blouse tucked into a pair of perfectly tailored pants. If you’re more of a solids person try color blocking; buy a pair of tailored crop pants in a vivid color, like fire engine red or peacock green, and pair it tonally, think shadows and sunlight of the same color. If that seems way too complicated – bold black and/or white are a perfect contrast to a vivid hue. If your daytime look is thought out and put together you can easily go from work to a date in three easy steps. 1. Fix your hair, put it back or let it loose, either way you’ll feel better if it’s different from the day. 2. Brighten up your makeup, either add a smoky eye OR a bright lip, never both. 3. Add a pair of sky high heels; you’ll feel sexy, and carry yourself with confidence.”

While jeans are always the perfect go-to regardless of the season, the reign of the skinny jean is coming to an end, due to the reemergence of ’70s styles — especially flares! While some may welcome the change, one HollywoodLife.com reader wrote in expressing her concern. She asked, “Is the skinny jean gone for good?” We chatted with celebrity stylist Taylor Jacobson who weighed in on the situation.

Taylor Jacobson, celebrity stylist responsible for the looks of Kate Beckinsale and Ashley Benson, to name a few answered: “No matter what the skinny jean is never going away. It might be played out and people are sick of it, but it’s a staple in your wardrobe. You need a skinny jean, especially if you’re trying to balance out over-sized tops — you don’t want to wear something big on top and big on the bottom! The skinny jean looks great with a chunky, yummy sweater for fall. Remember, you don’t want to do big on top and big on the bottom — then you’re just gonna look fat!”

If you are looking forward to embracing the flared trend, don’t expect to throw on a ballerina flat with your flares the way you did with your skinnies! The same reader asked, “Is it totally impossible to wear a flat with flares? What shoes should I wear?” Taylor responded: “It’s really hard. They come so long straight from factory or designer that you’re forced to wear them with a heel. If you’re lucky and you’re naturally tall you can wear them with flats, but then I suggest wearing something fitted on top so you don’t look schlumpy. Flares are really cute but if they aren’t styled right they can look dumpy,” she said.

So what’s your best bet? “I would wear them with a wedge, honestly it depends but your best bet is to pair them with something super high like a platform pump or wedge, something chunky balances out the look and is also a bit more comfortable.”
