It’s with much sadness that I report ABC Family has decided not to renew Jane By Design. The decision was announced Aug. 17, on the heels of several other series — Bunheads, Melissa & Joey, Baby Daddy and Switched at Birth — receiving new season and back-order pickups.

The show’s first season ended with Jane (Erica Dasher) finally getting caught by boss Gray (Andie MacDowell) for being in high school, after spending the series posing as her adult assistant. She had also finally acknowledged her feelings for best-friend Billy (Nick Roux).

Several of the shows stars thanked fans for their support over Twitter:

“Thank you so much for everything!!!” Jane herself, Erica, tweeted. “It was incredible and you all are the best part of that experience. Love love love”

Rowly Dennis, who played hot-shot British design Jeremy, tweeted: “Sorry guys, no more Jane By Design.”

Bryan Dechart, who played Gray’s nephew Eli, tweeted: “You guys are incredible and we truly appreciate your support. Eli’s gone, I’m not. :-)”

It’s been seven whole days since Jane By Design aired its summer finale cliffhanger, and although the future of the series — much like Jane’s (Erica Dasher) future at Donovan Decker — remains unconfirmed, I’m hearing that a second season is likely. So why not start compiling a wish list of all the things I’d like to see in season two?

1. An available, age-appropriate guy for Jane: I think we can all agree Jane has terrible luck with guys. Between unavailable-best-friend Billy (Nick Roux) and older-co-worker Eli (Bryan Dechart), Jane’s love life was pretty much lose-lose at the end of season one. She just needs to find a nice guy her own age so she can finally get her groove back! Perhaps round two with Nick (Matt Atkinson)?

2. More Jeremy/India drama: It was cute the way India (India de Beaufort) followed Jeremy (Rowly Dennis) to London to win him back, but I hope that doesn’t mean we’ve seen the last of the fireworks between them. Their relationship has always been fueled by tension, which is what made them so much fun to watch together. Maybe Jeremy will catch wind of India’s little romp with Eli! (Cue the fireworks.)

3. Babies for Ben & Rita: Since none of the other couples seem to be able to get their act together on this show, it would be nice for Ben (David Clayton Rogers) and Rita (Smith Cho) to serve as a good example for their fellow lovers. Creator April Blair told me this is her “favorite couple on the show,” so hopefully it can be smooth sailing from here on out. Plus, can you imagine Ben with a baby? Swoon.

4. More of Jane’s worlds colliding: The season may have ended with Gray (Andie MacDowell) and Eli confronting Jane at school, but let’s face it — Jane will probably find a way out of this mess, just like she’s done countless times before. Still, I never get tired of seeing her worlds come together with disastrous results. Remember when Billy helped Jane with the party at Gray’s house? Or when India and Jeremy were let loose in the hallways of Jane’s school? I want more of those situations.

5. Gray needs to stay: I know Andie is starring in the pilot for Hallmark Channel’s new series Cedar Cove, but I really hope she stays with Jane. So much of the show’s drama relies on Gray — Jane being her assistant, Eli being her nephew, India gunning for her job, etc. — and I’m not sure how it could all work without her. Plus, they’d have to reshoot the opening title sequence. And that just seems like a lot of work.

Jane (Erica Dasher) got a taste of fame on the June 12 episode of Jane By Design when she was photographed alongside Donovan Decker’s latest high-profile client, but her new celeb status caused major problems for her friendship with Billy (Nick Roux). And while Billy was crushed at first, his budding relationship with new-girl Zoe (Mariah Buzolin) provided just the distraction he needed.

Meanwhile, India (India de Beaufort) and Gray (Andie MacDowell) continued to draw their battle lines this week — and they each came prepared with a secret weapon. Gray tried to use India’s relationship with Jeremy (Rowly Dennis) to manipulate her, while India used Gray’s jealousy of Eli (Bryan Dechart) to manipulate him.

India clearly came out the victor of this particular round, as she threatened to expose Jeremy as the mole if he didn’t help her take down Donovan Decker from the inside. Ruh-roh!

And just when I thought my emotions had been fully dragged through the ringer, Rita (Smith Cho) told Ben (David Clayton Rogers) she wanted to take a break! Apparently Ben came on a little too strong — something about flowers and candy and a giant gorilla — and Rita just needed some space.

Be. Still. My. Heart.

Jane’s (Erica Dasher) life has always been complicated, but the summer premiere of Jane By Design turned her whole world upside down — and creator April Blair promises HollywoodLife.com that the madness has only just begun. From new boys (Eli, anyone?) to old rivals (hello, India!), April gave me the low-down on what we can look forward to as we finish out the show’s freshman season.

1. New love interests for Jane AND Billy: “There will be different people in Jane and Billy’s [Nick Roux] lives,” April confirms — and she’s not just talking about Jane’s new love interest Eli (Bryan Dechart)! Billy will have someone new enter the picture, just like Jane had Eli enter the picture, but I will say we don’t just wipe the Jane/Billy slate clean. There’s something still bubbling beneath the surface with those two. If Jane and Billy ended up together after [his big confession], there wouldn’t be anything to root for.”

2. Gray’s softer side comes out (and yes, she does have one): “Eli coming to Donovan Decker brings out a more maternal side to Gray,” April teases. “He brings out the best in her. Don’t get me wrong, Gray [Andie MacDowell] doesn’t become a sweet heart, but you’ll see more layers to her with him around.”

3. A new woman comes between Ben & Rita: Could Ben (David Clayton Rogers) and Rita (Smith Cho) be any cuter? The answer, of course, is no. “They’re so much fun, and they have a lot of great stuff coming up,” April tells me. “We spend a lot more time with their relationship than we did before.” As for Rita’s glam new look, April warns fans, “Just wait. Someone new arrives on the scene at school and Rita has to step it up big time!” But that’s not the only problem ahead. “As his relationship with Rita grows, helping Jane keep her secret will also become more complicated,” April reveals.

4. India’s sweet revenge on Gray (and Jane): Not only is India (India de Beaufort) back in the mix for the foreseeable future, but as April so eloquently puts it, “She’s also got a sassy new haircut. She’s fun to hate. Suddenly, she’s supervising this capsule collection that Donovan Decker is designing, so now she’s Gray’s supervisor. The balance of power has shifted, so that creates a lot of mischief for India to get into. She’s in power and she wields it.” (I have chills!)

5. More of Jeremy’s secrets spill out: “As Jeremy [Rowly Dennis] becomes Jane’s mentor, things between he and India become more complicated,” April says. “Even though he tried to tell Gray’s ex that he didn’t want to be the mole anymore, there’s still fallout from that. He also has romantic complications with India. A lot of things explode between he and Jane and India as more of his secrets come out.”

Two months have passed since Billy (Nick Roux) all-but-confessed his love to Jane (Erica Dasher), and when Jane By Design returned June 5, viewers basically found themselves in an alternate universe. Ben (David Clayton Rogers) was helping Jane keep her big secret, Nick (Matthew Atkinson) was in a full-on relationship with Lulu (Meagan Tandy), and India (India de Beaufort) was… well… I’ll get to her later.

The episode began with Jane and Billy’s highly anticipated reunion — he’d been locked away in a juvenile detention camp, but thankfully, his gravity defying hair didn’t suffer for it — and he and Jane finally had “the talk.” Well, sort of. Billy pretty much avoided the subject until the final moments of the episode, when he totally lied and said Jane was his best friend and he didn’t want that to change. (Geez, Billy can be such a boy sometimes!)

But Jane might not need Billy or Nick in her life, as Grey (Andie MacDowell) hired an easy-on-the-eyes replacement for India at Donovan Decker named Eli (Bryan Dechart). He’s charming, he’s creative, and he’s — wait for it — Grey’s nephew! Jane thought she was up for India’s job for the most of the episode, which made it super awkward when she publicly pulled herself out of the running, only to learn she was never in it to begin with.

OK, now let’s get to the part of the episode that put the biggest smile on my face: India’s return! In a brilliant twist of fate, she’s now working for Harrod’s, the British department store that Donovan Decker is trying to get in bed with — professionally speaking, anyway. So now the tables have completely turned, and the falsely accused “mole” is relishing her new power.

Your move, Grey.

Good news, Jane By Design fans! Our sister site Deadline.com is reporting that ABC Family has picked up the quirky series for an additional eight episodes, which will air this summer. This is especially good news for those fans — myself included — freaking out over all the relationship drama stirred up during last night’s little camping excursion. Thankfully Jane (Erica Dasher) and Billy (Nick Roux) will have more than one episode to win back their significant others.

Or, you know, decide to go out with each other instead.

Jane (Erica Dasher) had a good run keeping up her double life, but we all knew her big secret had to come out eventually — and that’s exactly what happened on the Feb. 28 episode of Jane By Design when Ben (David Clayton Rogers) stumbled on some old pictures of Jane on her recent trip to Paris. But will he be cool with everything, or has our little fashionista reached the end of her runway?

We’ll have to wait until next week’s big finale to find that out, so let’s just focus on this week’s shenanigans for now.

Jane tagged along with India (India de Beaufort) on a little business trip to business trip to Beverly Hills — and by “tagged along” I mean “spied for Gray” — and discovered she was secretly meeting with Gray’s (Andie MacDowell) husband! It turns out he was trying to court her for a new job, but she claimed she turned him down. Color me skeptical, but I have a feeling she’s not telling the whole truth.

Meanwhile, the rest of the people in Jane’s life went on a camping trip — but it wasn’t quite the Kumbaya-fest they were expecting.

Lulu (Meagan Tandy) demanded that Billy (Nick Roux) officially choose her over Jane, and when he couldn’t, she kissed Nick (Matthew Atkinson)! Granted, this was after India picked up Jane’s phone and gave Nick the impression that Jane was sleeping with some smooth-talking rando — but that’s still no excuse for them kissing. If Lulu and Nick were both willing to jump ship that quickly, maybe neither one of them was fully invested in their relationships in the first place.

And things went from crappy to crap-tastic for Billy when he got arrested trying to help his brother Tommy out of a jam.

At least Ben had a good time on the school camping trip. Not only did he learn how to properly roast a marshmallow, but he also finally landed a kiss with Rita (Smith Cho.) Those two might be the most adorable thing on this show — and that’s saying a lot.

My Jane By Design recaps typically include a list of all the ways that Jane (Erica Dasher) ruined the lives of her friends and family on any given week — but believe it or not, the Feb. 21 episode actually found our plucky little fashionista using her powers for good. Not only did she bring Nick (Matthew Atkinson) and Billy (Nick Roux) closer together, but she also saved Jeremy’s (Rowly Dennis) job! Oh, and did I mention she took down India (India de Beaufort) in the process?

When a snooty socialite (Autumn Reeser) demanded that Donovan Decker redesign her wedding dress in 24 hours, Jeremy lost his mind — and nearly lost his job along with it. But thanks to Jane’s brilliant new design idea, the team was able to whip up the perfect replacement just in time. India tried to steal credit for Jane’s sketch, but it didn’t take long for the truth to come out.

Meanwhile, Nick and Billy bonded over nachos on what was supposed to be a group outing with Jane. And it turns out that Paula Abdul song was on to something, because Nick and Billy — who seemed to be opposites — totally attracted. And all it took was a bar fight with three dudes named Adam!

In the episode’s final moments, Jeremy finally kicked India to the curb for what she did to Jane, sending her straight into the waiting arms of a mystery man named Richard. (You’d think this would be the part where I theorize that “Richard” is actually Jane’s mom in disguise, but you’d be wrong. Maybe)

In the end, not only did the socialite love Jane’s wedding dress, but she even made it Nick’s baseball game in time. For once, I’ve got to say I fully support Jane Quimby. She got the job done and got the guy — and she did it all on her own.
