The Voice is nearing the end of its season, which means every elimination from tonight on is going to be a difficult one. As the top four were revealed, one more coach joined Christina Aguilera in the losers category with no contestants left in the game!

The Music

Amanda Brown joined Ne-Yo on his new single “Let Me Love You”. I actively dislike Ne-Yo and his whole “whining-as-singing” shtick, but this performance was fun. Amanda sounded great and seemed to be having a total blast, so that’s all that matters to me.

Terry McDermott and Trevin Hunte teamed up on “Feel Again”. Trevin sounded super shaky when he began the song, and the duo had an odd chemistry on stage, but it sounded alright, I guess. The ending was nice. Yawn.

Amanda and Cassadee Pope took on Kelly Clarkson‘s “Breakaway,” which was a bit better than Terry and Trevin’s outing. It was still a bit listless, though. Am I just cranky and tired? Maybe. Either way, the girls sounded good. It was just a little “meh”.

Matchbox 20 were helped out by Trevin and Nicholas David on their new single “Overjoyed”. This performance was so weird, as Nick and Trevin weren’t really given much to do except become backup signers to Rob Thomas. It was another downbeat song, making this episode feel much longer than it had any right to.

Nicholas and Melanie Martinez teamed up for “Criminal,” Fiona Apple‘s magnum opus. This performance was everything I hoped it would be. It was cool, sexy, and a little bit dangerous. These two voices worked so well together on this song. It was just so very, very good.

The Results

-The first artist safe: Terry. Seeing as how I did not include Terry on my Top Four wish list, I felt pretty foolish.

-The second artist safe: Trevin. While I did predict Trevin, this means that at least one singer I hoped for didn’t make the cut. Boo.

-The third artist safe: Cassadee. This was a no-brainer. Was anyone worried she wouldn’t make it through?

-The first artist to go home: Melanie. This didn’t come as too much of a surprise, and Melanie handled her elimination with true grace. I hope we see a lot more of her in the future.

-The final artist safe: Nicholas. Man, this was a tough one. I was personally rooting for Amanda, but knew that Nick deserved to be there just as much. Poor Adam Levine now joins Christina with nothing to do for the remainder of the season!

Tonight, six will become four on The Voice, as America’s vote will send home two more superstar hopefuls. While recent weeks have had their share of shocking eliminations, (Bryan Keith, we hardly knew ye!) the four finalists who deserve to make this week’s cut are crystal clear in my mind!

1. Cassadee Pope

At this point, Cassadee Pope, 23, seems to have this thing pretty much in the bag. The pop-rocker came to the show with a built-in fan base, having previously sung as the lead vocalist for pop-punk band Hey Monday. While the fairness of allowing an established singer into the competition is certainly up for debate, there’s no denying the reality of Cassadee’s frontrunner status. Sure, her song choices are often safe and lacking in any adventurous spirit, but the West Palm Beach, FL native knows what she’s superb at and delivers in spades every. single. time.

2. Amanda Brown

Amanda Brown may be lacking in Cassadee’s built-in fan base, but her spirited performances have earned her a sizable amount of acclaim since she first appeared in her blind audition. The former backup singer (for both Adele and Alicia Keys!) has approached the competition with zeal — she’s never done the same thing two weeks in a row, always showcasing another side to her powerhouse voice. From Aerosmith to Florence and the Machine to her old boss Adele, Amanda has proved she can do it all — and do it exceptionally well.

3. Nicholas David

Nicholas David is a paradox of a competitor to me. On one hand, I’m shocked he’s made it as far as he has because I never imagined America accepting his quirky look and personality as readily as they have. But on the other, with a voice that good, they’d be fools not to. I don’t know how commercial or radio-friendly a Nicholas David album would be, but after his hauntingly beautiful performance of “Somewhere Over The Rainbow” last night, I know I want him to have the chance to give it a shot.

4. Trevin Hunte

Deciding on this last spot was difficult. Of the three left to choose from, they all have their positives and negatives. There’s Scot rocker Terry McDermott, who can sing the heck out of any classic rock song sent his way, but has shown no real versatility or current radio appeal. There’s cutie Melanie Martinez, who brings such a unique spin to every song she tackles, but has such a limited range as a singer. And then there’s Trevin Hunte. The 18-year-old belts out a power ballad like it’s nobody’s business, but he’s struggled to connect to any sort of current and upbeat material. Ultimately, I think Trevin shows the most potential of the three, but any of the three could snag that final spot.

Amanda Brown has been a frontrunner for season three of The Voice since she blew the roof off with her showstopping performance of Aerosmith’s “Dream On” early in the competition. She recently spoke with HollywoodLife.com correspondant Jamie Otis about who she views as her toughest competition in the show’s top six!

Amanda told us, via Skype, “I feel like everyone is. I feel like at this point, anyone could go home and really win this thing ‘cuz everyone’s just so good and so, I really, all I can do is just do my best and hope that, you know, maybe that might be something that will bring me to the very end. But I think anyone could take it home at this point.”

She also told us about how she felt when her BFF in the competition, Cody Belew, was eliminated on Nov. 27′s results episode and gave us a hint at what she would be singing next! Watch her full interview below to see everything Amanda had to say!

After the shocking elimination of Bryan Keith last week, The Voice was due for a new frontrunner. During tonight’s show, two emerged to vie for the title: Amanda Brown and Cassadee Pope!

Before the night could officially begin, the audience was treated to “My Life,” 50 Cent‘s new single featuring coach Adam Levine. The producers were trigger-happy with the censor, dropping audio twice on Mr. Cent. This song will not be the comeback Fiddy hopes it’ll be, methinks.

Amanda Brown

Amanda attempted Adele‘s “Someone Like You,” in the vein of a rock ballad. This was one of the greatest decisions she and Adam have made yet. To take a song that is so iconically linked to an artist, the only way to come at it and make it your own it to present it in an entirely new light. Amanda sounded incredible. Adam tells her she “knocked it out of the park,” and he’s not wrong.

Cody Belew

Cody fought with “Somebody To Leave” by Queen tonight, which I immediately thought should be an opportunity to recapture the vocal heights from his George Michael performance. Singing with a full choir, Cody completely owned the Freddie Mercury track. It allowed him to bring his theatricality to the stage, while also providing an opportunity to highlight his range and ability. Cody’s the dark horse of this season — mark my words. (I hope I didn’t just jinx him!)

Why Not A Group Number?

Cassadee, Dez Duron, Melanie Martinez, and Terry McDermott sang “Move Along” by All-American Rejects. First, I thought their voices would be pretty bizarre together, but their harmonies were actually rather great. I did not hate this performance as much as I thought I would. I even enjoyed Dez. Who am I?

Terry McDermott

Terry took on his coach’s song “Over” because coach Blake Shelton wanted the audience to be able to see a different side of the rocker. It was a smart decision. While the song was an attempt to have the singer stretch, let’s be honest — “Over” wasn’t too far removed from a rock power ballad. Also, for the first time, Terry seemed to have a few pitch problems. This wasn’t my favorite performance out of him — not by a long shot. The coaches seemed to love it, though, so what do I know?

Melanie Martinez

Melanie tackled Alex Clare‘s “Too Close,” a dubstep-y dance track, but “Melanie-ized” it, as Adam called it. I think that this sort of song works best with the way Melanie likes to change up things because it isn’t too recognizable, thereby not alienating any fans expecting something in particular. Coach Christina Aguilera was right in that it “didn’t go anywhere” — the song never really built to a power moment. But it was a good performance, nonetheless.

Dez Duron

Tonight, Dez took on “You Smile” by Justin Bieber, but turned the pop track into a jazzy crooner. I still find Dez as bland as a piece of Wonder bread, but this song choice was especially shrewd by Christina. Pander to the girls who watch with a song by one of their favorite artists = win. Dez’ll be around next week. Blah.

Trevin Hunte

Trevin went back to his “big moment” power ballads this week with “The Greatest Love Of All” by Whitney Houston after last week’s dance track stumble. Coach Cee Lo Green must’ve been hellbent on each of his artists singing with a choir tonight, as Trevin belted it out with one as well. He sounded great, which we all knew he would. Though I wonder if an album full of power ballads will really succeed, there’s no doubt Trevin deserves the chance to see.

Another Group Number

Cody, Amanda, Trevin, and Nicholas David tackled Journey’s “Anyway You Want It”. This performance had a bit of a stranger energy, as Cody and Amanda seemed to be jumping out of their skin, while Nicholas was just plodding through. Some of the harmonies were a little bunk, too.

Nicholas David

Nicholas competed with Marvin Gaye‘s “What’s Going On?” this week, after some coaching from the legendary Bill Withers, earning a “Holy buckets!” from Nick! So, real talk: Nick sounded great during the performance, but looked ridiculous with this sunglasses. There wasn’t anyone around who could say, “Uh, let’s rethink this”?

Cassadee Pope

After hitting number one on iTunes last week, Cassadee decided to give it another go with Michelle Branch‘s “Are You Happy Now?” The song fits perfectly in Cassadee’s power-pop wheelhouse, and she sounded pretty great on the track. She brought just the right mix of spite and vulnerability. It was a great number to end the night with.
