Being the hostess with the mostess is exhausting — especially if you are planning on entertaining a large amount of guests in a small space! While it may seem impossible, don’t stress yourself out. We chatted with Amy Wells, who teamed up with HomeGoods, who told us how to transform your tiny apartment into a stylish and savvy space for entertaining. Investing in dual function items and transforming your home with useful accents is key this holiday season — and we have all the expert tips on how to do so without breaking the bank.
If you want to entertain in a small space, what are some must-haves?
“You don’t have to have a massive apartment to entertain in style. Create a bar on a countertop and arrange a display of glasses and beautiful mixers. A bar cart is fantastic, but don’t sweat it if you can’t fit one in your place! When you are working with a small room you want to be cognizant of how much space everything is taking up – avoid going overboard by just picking your favorite pieces to show off!”
The holidays are almost here and they’re all about entertaining — tips for making a space stylish and accommodating for company? What should one invest in/what should they skip out on?
“One piece to invest in is a good ottoman. If you substitute an ottoman for a coffee table, you can use it as seating or also throw a tray or two on it and it suddenly becomes a buffet table! You also don’t have to spend a ton of money on a nice piece – I just recently bought this gorgeous, oversized cowhide ottoman from HomeGoods. Avoid big pieces of furniture that don’t multitask. For example, a chaise lounge is a beautiful addition to the room, but ask yourself – how many people are going to get to enjoy this? If you are consistently entertaining, make sure the pieces you have accommodate multiple guests.” [hl_amazon_single url=”http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002HWS7Y0/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=9325&creativeASIN=B002HWS7Y0&linkCode=as2&tag=hollywoocom-20&linkId=ZWY4VWQASO6OBH7E” data-hl-krux=“fashion” header=”Shop” title=”Ottoman, $48.34″]
How can someone make the most of a small space?
“My number one rule for making the most out of a small space is to curate every piece that you bring in. When you don’t have a big area to work with you have to be particular about everything, especially furniture. Make sure each piece of furniture is to scale – even just one oversized couch can swallow up the whole room! I’d also recommend utilizing your wall space with tricks like floating shelves.”
Pro tip — what’s the best organizational tip you can share with us?
“If you’re starting to pile up with clutter, pick up each item ask yourself – does this bring me joy? Does this have meaning in my life? If not, get rid of it! Less is more. That’s my motto!”Join Amazon Prime – Watch Thousands of Movies & TV Shows Anytime – Start Free Trial Now
There’s a fine line between quirky and cute and cluttered — how do you know when you’re going overboard/how can someone prevent that?
“Take a step back and look at the big picture. Is there a piece or two that feels a little much? Be willing to edit. Let it go! Don’t hold on to stuff for the sake of holding on to it.”
