We know being a mom is one of the toughest jobs a woman will ever have. That’s why we give a tip of the hat to the Hollywood moms who juggle babies, work and looking fab on their lunch hour.
From Madonna to Gwen Stefani to Jennifer Garner to Reese Witherspoon, here’s a salute to our 10 favorite Hollywood mommies! Tell us who you think should be number one! Madonna, The Rebel Mom
We can’t even begin to imagine what it would be like to have Madonna as a mom. Do you think she tells her kids, “Don’t do anything I wouldn’t do?” And is there anything left that she hasn’t done? Jokes aside, the 52-year-old is a great mom to Lourdes, 13, Rocco, 10, and David Banda, 5. She is firm but fair and doesn’t let them get away with anything just because their mom is one of the most famous women in the world.
“Obviously, my tastes and my priorities have changed, Just because I’m a mother doesn’t mean I’m not still a rebel and that I don’t want to go in the face of convention and challenge the system,” Madonna says. “I never wanted to think in a robotic way, and I don’t want my children to think that way, either. I think parents should be constantly questioning society.”
Jennifer Garner, The Hands-On Mom
Career-wise Jen has always juggled the best of both worlds. She is a booty-kicking action star sometimes and other times she makes us tear up as a sweet and sassy romantic lead. But in her personal life, the 38-year-old is the loving wife of Ben Affleck, 38, and a hard-working mommy to their daughters Violet, 4, and Seraphina, 1.
“It’s tricky, I don’t think there’s any right way to be a mum,” Jen says about making the decision between being a working or a stay at home mom. “Whatever works for you, don’t judge yourself for it. And don’t let others judge you. Just do what feels best for your family, and if that’s going to work, then go to work with your head held high, and if that’s staying at home, then don’t let yourself feel any less for being at home with your kids.”
Heidi Klum, The Sexy Mama
How does Heidi do it? She’s a super model and a super mom with a super body! The Project Runway host, 37, and hubby Seal, 47, have a brood of four, baby Lou, 11 months, Leni, 6, Henry, 5, and Johan, 3. This German model may look uber perfect all the time, but she doesn’t strive for perfection as a mom, in fact her secret is to embrace some of the chaos.
“I’m not someone who [lives] like, ‘OK, this is a museum and you can’t sit here and you can’t touch this and everything has to be put in its place — [the kids] live here as much as we do. You come into our house and a giant elephant and lion are welcoming you. We have toys and things everywhere,” she says.
Sarah Jessica Parker, The Fashionable Mama
Carrie Bradshaw opted to settle down with Mr. Big in a life without kids. In real life, SJP, 45, embraces mommyhood with her son, James, 7, and twin girls Marion and Tabitha, 1, with husband Matthew Broderick, 48. Having three kids hasn’t slowed down the actress, designer and sometime writer, but it has made her seriously rethink her choice of footwear.
“As a working mother high heels don’t really fit into my life anymore — but in a totally wonderful way. I would much rather think about my son than myself,” she says.
Jennie Garth, The Stay-At-Home Mom
The beloved 90210 star is married to a vampire patriarch (Twilight’s Peter Facinelli, 36) which you would think would make for some interesting dinner table conversations, but the 38-year-old insists that their family life with kids is totally normal and she has no regrets about taking some time away from acting to be a stay-at-home mom to girls, Luca, 12, Lola, 7, and Fiona, 3.
“90210 wasn’t really turning out to be something I wanted Kelly’s character to be a part of. It wasn’t appealing to me,” she says. “I worked really hard for many years, and now my life is more about doing things that give back. I also want to be with my kids, to be around while they’re eating breakfast, to make them lunch; they’re my priority. I’ve seen what you can get out of this business, and Hollywood is really just a big facade. I honestly love being at home with my kids.”
Gwen Stefani, The Rocker Mom
Gwen’s not only a rock star, but this funky mom to Kingston, 4, and Zuma, 2, is one of the top fashion designers in the biz. That’s one of the reasons why these two tykes always look so stylish. The 40-year-old No Doubt singer loves her brood of little men, but she has recently said she is hoping that her and hubby Gavin Rossdale, 44, can try for a little girl.
“I mean, it does seem weird that I don’t have a girl, but I feel like I’m running out of time,” Gwen said.
Reese Witherspoon, The Single Mom
The Academy Award Winner, 34, still has the help of ex-husband and baby daddy Ryan Phillipe, 35, but she is super busy raising her two kids, Ava, 10 and Deacon, 6, and making hit movies. She’s made the concession that she can’t be everything to everyone, but she tries to do the best that she can.
“I am an ‘all kinds’ of mom. I’m a working mom, so I definitely have those moments where I wish I could be home with the kids. But I’m lucky that my job isn’t all day every day, so I do get to be there for the school fairs, plays and volunteering in the classroom,” Reese says.
Jessica Alba, The Down-to Earth Mommy
Motherhood suits Jessica Alba, 29, to a tee. Seriously, do you ever see this starlet without a huge smile on her face when she is out and about with her daughter Honor, 2, with husband Cash Warren, 31?
“Life moves so fast as a new mom. Sometimes I wish time would slow down. Every milestone is memorable, from the numerous wardrobe changes in her first five months due to her explosive diarrhea to the first time she said, Mama. What works for you may not work for others and vice versa. I have also found that it’s more useful to stop and listen than to try and always have the answers,” she told Fit Pregnancy magazine.
Halle Berry, The Globe-Trotting Mommy
Halle Berry, 44, and her ex-boyfriend, model Gabriel Aubry, have kept things cordial for the sake of their daughter, Nahla, 2. In fact the pair recently traveled to South Africa together so that Nahla could be with both of her parents while Halle is shooting a movie. She is still hard at work, but this Oscar-winning actress says that motherhood is her most important job, so we may see her slow down on the movie front sometime soon.
“I want to keep working, but my dream is to become the mother I am dreaming to be and I believe I can be, so I’ll probably be working on that for the rest of my life,” Halle says.
Kelly Ripa, The Multitasking Mom
Kelly Ripa, 39, is everywhere. She’s hosting her talk show. She’s in commercials. She’s raising money for charity. She’s running through the streets of Manhattan in high heels. Oh, and she’s raising three kids with husband Mark Consuelos,39 — Michael, 13, Lola, 9 and Joaquin, 7.
” I feel like women are a role model to me. I’m constantly meeting working moms in my audience who achieve so much in their lives that I feel encouraged and empowered by them,” Kelly says. “We’re all going through the motions of working and raising our children and being good wives — as best we can…. I don’t know if I [juggle family and career] particularly well. I try my hardest at work and at home. I’m very lucky in that I have the best hours a person could hope for; I get to pick my kids up every day from school and take them to all their activities. I’m able to devote the time that I think they need.”
