Read up on my tips and check out my picks for the perfect outfit for your date.
What do you do when the guy you’re dating calls and invites you out to watch a football game? Chances are, he’s going to be at a crowded, casual sports bar with his friends. I know getting ready for a movie or dinner date can be tough and that’s just one-on-one. Once you add on the fact that his friends (who you may or not have met) will also be present, I’m sure you’re already mentally scanning your closet and getting frustrated.
If your guy is all about the game and you aren’t a super fan don’t worry about it — he’s obviously into you regardless of how well you can rattle off the names of the players on his fantasy team. That being said, he’s not expecting you to turn up looking like a team cheerleader or wearing a personalized jersey. Keep your look comfortable, casual, and simple.
So, what to wear? Depending on your personal style, a waffle shirt and scarf, light-weight knit, or even a button down is perfect paired with jeans or leggings. While I recommend flat boots, I understand the need for a little height, which is why I included a casual pair of booties. You don’t want to be that girl who’s standing at the bar looking like she just crawled out of a nightclub at 3 AM and took a wrong turn into a sports bar. A long sweater or leather jacket is perfect for layering, and don’t be afraid to add an accessory or two. A scarf, a chunky bracelet, or a simple long necklace can add a nice touch — but don’t break out the chandelier earrings. I would also tone down the makeup since it’s still during the day.
Maybe you’re an avid football fan and even chatted away about sports on your first date. While I would maybe hold off on pulling out a tee, jersey, or sweatshirt from your favorite team, if that’s what you want to wear it’s totally fine — but please skip out on the matching hair ties, socks, and accessories. Remember, it’s still a date and you want to look cute, not cheesy — especially if this is the first time he’s invited you to meet his friends.
Whatever you do, don’t over think your get-up and make sure you pick an outfit you feel comfortable and confident in. If you need some help, check out my picks below.
