Andy's 'Vampire Diaries' Afterthoughts: 2 Deaths + 2 Maybe Couples + 1 New Werewolf = Best Party Ever!

I know I say this every week, but the Oct. 28 episode of The Vampire Diaries was the best thing I’ve ever watched on television.

Speaking of things that happen every week, Elena (Nina Dobrev) and Stefan (Paul Wesley) broke up for realz this time, even though Damon (Ian Somerhalder) was able to return Katherine to the tomb. Oh, yeah, that’s right. They didn’t kill Katherine; they’ve decided to go with torture, and I’m totally pleased by that. I once said Caroline (Candice Accola) has been my favorite character this season, but I think I may have to change my answer to Katherine. She’s absolutely bats**t crazy and totally unpredictable. Nina Dobrev is ridiculous.

Now, onto the meat of the episode (aka the corpses):

The first victim of the evening was just a poor, innocent partygoer who told Katherine (posing as Elena) that she liked her necklace. Little did she know, Elena was about to break every bone in her body to convince Stefan to hand over the Moonstone.

Death No. 2 came courtesy of Tyler (Michael Trevino), who got into a scuffle with a highly compelled Matt, per Katherine’s master plan. But when Matt failed, an equally compelled Sarah (Maiara Walsh) went after Tyler… and yeah, she’s super dead now. And he’s a WOOOLF!

And in Mystic Falls relationship news…

  1. I’m incredibly pleased that Bonnie (Katerina Graham) and Jeremy (Steven R. McQueen) are having a thing. That’s what I’ll call it for now. When he told her, “I’m not a little kid anymore,” I thought she was going to lose it. Who among us did not?
  2. Until watching the scene at the beginning of the episode between Matt (Zach Roerig) and Elena, the thought never even crossed my mind that they could get back together — but now I kind of want them to. And not just because I immediately made them the new Dawson & Joey in my mind after watching the pilot last year. Plus, Katherine is ready to jump Matt’s bones at a moment’s notice — and she and Elena clearly have the same taste in guys.
  3. Lastly, Alaric (Matt Davis) and Jenna (Sara Canning) is another couple I really support. Rick would make a really good Uncle Jenna to Elena and Jeremy.
