Andy's 'Desperate Housewives' Afterthoughts: Menopause & Interior Design — Am I Watching 'Designing Women?'

This show may be one studio audience short of a sitcom, but I still love it.

I feel like Desperate Housewives is becoming a completely different show every week, and on the Nov. 7 episode, I felt like I was watching an episode of Designing Women. Completely out of the blue, René (Vanessa Williams) decided to start an interior design company, enlisting Lynette (Felicity Huffman) to handle the “business-y” side of things and Susan (Teri Hatcher) to take over as Lynette’s nanny. Now would be the perfect time for a special guest appearance by Delta Burke. Where’s she been hiding?

Sadly, Bree’s (Marcia Cross) cougar saga hit a serious bump in the road with her very own rendition of Meet the Parents. Dinner with Keith’s (Brian Austin Green) went pretty terribly when Bree recognized Keith’s mom as her doctor — one of the only few people who know she’s going through Menopause. Needless to say, Bree and Keith had the “you want kids someday, but I don’t” talk and I’m starting to see less of a future for these two.

Meanwhile in Crazytown, Gaby (Eva Longoria Parker) became concerned that Bob (Tuc Watkins) might be trying to turn Carlos (Ricardo Chavira) gay, so she broke up their friendship. I’m just going to pretend this didn’t happen at all.

And Paul’s (Mark Moses) wife finally figured out what her new husband is plotting for our favorite Wisterians — but the real shock came when we saw Beth visiting Felicia Tillman (Harriet Harris) in prison. It turns out Beth is Felicia’s daughter and has been reporting back to her all along! Oh snap. I have a feeling things are about to get really real in Fairview.

Not like Beth’s mom was a big shocker…that was disappointing.

And Vanessa Williams is severely underused in this show at the moment. I liked the little vicious Renee coming out to claw at Susan in her last scene, but this episode was honestly weak.

and YES! Suddenly she wants to be an interior designer? So out of the blue, I actually went “WTH?”

I don’t see Bree and Keith lasting too though…he’s obviously excited to become a dad and unless they bring in Bree’s grandson into the picture then this is probably doomed. His mother was hilarious though.

Susan…god, she bugs me. Always has. Can’t Paul Young just whack her over the head already? I don’t think I’ve ever liked her. To whiny and needy for my taste.

So glad someone out there shares my opinions. I usually just get hated on :)

This show is at its best when there’s one big storyline uniting everyone… not when each character decides to go off and do their own thing.

and true–about having one big storyline with everyone in it. This season everything is just so all over the place, jumping from one thing to another, I’m getting tired of keeping track. They’re trying to do too many things at once.

Let’s hope they change that as the season progresses.
