French Vogue's Risque Kiddie Fashion Spread Causes Outrage– Are These Photos Appropriate?

Forget Toddlers & Tiaras! French Vogue ran a very risque photo spread and it didn’t feature women — it showcased 10-year-old girls covered in makeup and not so covered in mini skirts. Is this appropriate?

This just doesn’t seem right. French Vogue is currently featuring some provocative photos showing young girls modeling inappropriate clothes and wearing mountains of makeup. To be honest, these girls remind us of Brooke Shields in Pretty Baby — the story of a pre-teen growing up in a house of prostitution. Yes, they’re that bad. Would you ever let your daughter pose for pictures looking like this?

And we thought a 2-year-old in a pointy cone bra was bad!

The sexy kiddie spread features three girls in elaborate clothing and full makeup, posing in not so innocent ways. One photo shows model, 10-year-old Thylane Lena-Rose Blondeau wearing a skirt that is pulled all the way up her leg, exposing her thigh! Would you want a man — or even an adult woman — looking at your daughter while she is dressed that way? Another shot has the same girl in a low-cut gold metallic dress and sky high heels. There’s a difference between an editorial spread and a perverted one. Whatever statement the editors were hoping to make with this magazine feature, we think they failed on all accounts.

Check out the photos and judge for yourself. Should these kind of ads be allowed to be featured?

The August issue of French Vogue 10-year-old model, Thylane Bloudeau is in a series of photo shoots, wearing heavy make-up with a pouty mouth, expertly applying lipstick in a mirror and, in the most controversial, lying on a tiger pelt with her rear and one foot in the air, wearing a pair of Louboutins. In the shots, she looks like a child prostitute, not a little girl playing dress-up.

This shoot goes beyond the Calvin Klein jean ads, featuring then 16/17-year-old, Brooke Shields in the 1980’ In those ads, Shields was saying nothing gets between her and her Calvin’s. They definitely contained sexual innuendo, but she was not heavily made up. It was obvious that she was selling jeans, not herself.

I hate to discuss this issue further, adding to the publicity, but turning pre-teen girls into sex objects is WRONG!

Society is so sexualized that it is difficult for Christian parents to encourage their children to remain pure until marriage. Seeing children dressed like Bloudeau encourages the objectifying of little girls. Yet, the word of God is clear: “For this is the will of God, your santification; that is, that you abstain from sexual immorality; that each of you know how to possess his own vessel in santification and honor,” I Thess 4: 3-4, NAS. As a parent, I have to show my children how to abstain and hold themselves in honor.

Yeah maybe wouldn’t be wrong if you didn’t worry about all the perverts out there that will now take their French Vogue into the bathroom! I have a daughter and we need to think about publishing them in these kind of poses, clothing etc.

I don’t really like the pics… I think they look strange.
But, to give more background info, Thylane’s mother is a former tv anchor/model/actress in France… And she recently said that she wanted her daughter to have a normal life until she is 15, and then she will decide if she wants to be a model or not. She only does a photoshoot every now and then. This is far from Toddlers and Tiaras :)

Much more tastful then 4 year olds grinding on stage for cash prizes. This is tasteful and artistic.I will agree that the last shot with the neck line is too much, but all the others are ok.

I look at it this way…it’s dress up for them but the last one was a little too much though with the partial bare chest. What young girl or boy never had a “fashion show” where they put on adult clothing, wore makeup and etc? But Orly’s right…Toddlers in Tiaras vs. this…Toddlers in Tiaras is much worse!

Some are okay, some are really not. 14 I think is the best, its kinda funny and is what little girls like to do, dress up and act like mommy. But the poses and heals are totally unneeded.
