'Vampire Diaries' Recap: Klaus Is Reborn & Damon Tells Elena To 'Go To Hell!' WTF?

Flip through photos from the April 21 episode — otherwise known as ‘How Klaus Got His Groove Back’ — and relive it the way I remember it: super emotional and full of smoldering.

As the more-emotional-than-EVER Salvatore brothers, Ian Somerhalder and Paul Wesley turned out dramatic performances of Sally Field proportions on the April 21 episode of The Vampire Diaries. Yes, now that Elijah (Daniel Gillies) has been revived by Elena (Nina Dobrev) and Klaus (Joseph Morgan) has regained his own body, everyone in Mystic Falls is pretty much freaking the fang out.

But no one is freaking out quite like Damon and Stefan, who were literally at each other’s throats this week over Elena. Stefan triggered the fight, saying he has the one thing Damon will never have: Elena’s “respect.” This is the first time the brothers have openly discussed their mutual love for America’s favorite doppelganger, and considering it ended in bruises and broken bookshelves, I’m hoping they don’t bring it up again anytime soon. At least not until Klaus has been taken care of.

Speaking of Klaus, this week’s episode — appropriately titled “Klaus” — exposed a ton of secrets I’m sure the oldest vampire ever would have preferred to keep hidden. Now that Elena has become buddy-buddy with Elijah, they’re having some serious girl-talk, and he’s spilling everything. Here are three bombshell secrets Elijah revealed about Klaus this week:

  1. Elijah and Klaus are half-brothers! They thought they were full-blooded brothers, until it was discovered that their mother had cheated on their father with a werewolf.
  2. And yes — because Klaus’ father was a werewolf, Klaus is HALF FREAKIN’ WEREWOLF!
  3. Lastly, remember that little “Aztec curse” of the sun and the moon? It doesn’t actually exist! A witch put a curse on Klaus to seal his werewolf side, and the much-hyped “sacrifice” is the key to harnessing both his vampire AND werewolf halves.

Going back to Elijah for a minute, I want to point out something my roommate said to me during the episode: “You know, Elena and Elijah don’t make a bad-looking couple.” And while there’s certainly enough pretty between the two of them to make a unicorn blush, I’m not so sure I see that pairing working out. Especially since he’s sort of, kind of, Jenna’s (Sara Canning) ex-flame.

Oh, Jenna. How could I go so long without mentioning her? Thanks to loose-lipped Klaus-laric, Jenna now knows that vampires exist — and that her entire family has been keeping her out of the loop. And just think: She still has werewolves and witches to learn about. Please, someone just compel her already!

CLOSING THOUGHT:

I hope my fellow “Delena” shippers don’t come at me with pitchforks for suggesting this, but I’m starting to think Elena would be better off without either of the Salvatore brothers. Think about it. Regardless of which one she chooses, Elena will inevitably find herself in an abusive relationship. We saw Stefan break down last season, and now Damon is facing his own smoldering demons. If he’d handle Elena the same way he handled current girlfriend Andie (Dawn Olivieri) this week, maybe neither brother is ready to be with her.

What did you think of tonight’s episode? Which brother deserves Elena’s “respect” more? And which character do YOU think will be the first to die at modern-day Klaus’ hands? Crack your knuckles and head to the comments section!
