'True Blood' Star Slams 'Twilight': Real Vampires Don't Sparkle & Aren't Celibate! Exclusive!

Posted Mon, February 7, 2011 1:33pm EDT

See pics of & vote for your favorite vamps: the boys of Bon Temps, or the fellas of Forks?

If you thought the war between the vampires and werewolves was intense, you’re clearly not aware of the brewing war between Twilight and True Blood‘s fanged fatales! Denis O’Hare, who played True Blood‘s über baddie Russell Edgington this past season, had some choice words for Robert Pattinson and his crew Feb. 5 at the 63rd Annual Writers Guild Awards in NYC. “Real vampires don’t sparkle, they don’t glisten,” Denis, 49, told HollywoodLife.com exclusively. “They can’t go out in the day and they definitely aren’t celibate! Come on!”

But even though Denis disagrees with Twilight‘s take on the modern vampire, there is one thing the actor can totally relate to as a fellow vamp: crazy fan encounters!

“People ask me to bite them,” Denis told us. “It happens a lot. In my rough neighborhood of Fort Greene in Brooklyn, I was inside a Bravo across the street from me and this big Dominican guy who was working there was like, ‘Hey man, can you bite me?’ And I’m like, ‘You’re not going to beat me up afterwards?’ But I did it, and we took a picture!”

Twilight vampires don’t have fangs… and they sparkle… WTF?! I like that they don’t need to sleep and they don’t use a coffin but they can’t sparkle… this is too gay…

True Blood vampires have fangs and live by night. Some people say they are cliché but they just respect the vampires’ legend. Taking their fangs away from a vampire is the same as taking full moon transformation away from a werewolf… oh yes… Meyer did it too.

Change a few characteristics of a legend can be innovative and interesting but chuck out the main ones is nothing but a rape.

For vampires that don’t sparkle, I highly recommend Modern Marvels – Viktoriana. A real Gothic horror novel.

for me, twilight is for teenagers and true blood is for adults. we can’t avoid comparing these things because i think this generation revolves on vampires.

no offense for the true blood fans out there because in my opinion, twilight is better.

(look aside: wink*wink* ) i prefer twilight vampires.

Let’s face it, Twilight is terrible. It is full of bad acting, and Kristen Stewart. Kristen Stewart may be the worst actress and she is certainly not as attractive as she is supposed to be, when she becomes a vampire shes supposed to be prettier than ashley greene. I do not see this happening. Twilight vampires are no way badass. They prance around like little girls! Twilight has ruined vampires. I was a fan of Twilight when i was reading the books, but after I was done, I was like WTF?!?. The entire story is “Oh Edward, I love you so much. Make me a vampire”, “No, I can’t, I love you too much”. Its just a bunch of continuous whining. And the whole baby idea with Jacob imprinting on her? Thats just creepy as hell. I think Stephenie Meyer ran out of ideas. Vampires are not supposed to be friendly people, they are monsters. They are supposed to hunt and feed off of people. True Blood is amazing, and it has a much mature audience. Twilight only has fans because they are all tweens and will kill each other over Team Edward and Team Jacob. Denis played a true vampire in True Blood, he was evil and brutal.

I am a big fan of both Twilight and True Blood. They are both great in their own ways. However, this is not the first time that I have heard of someone from True Blood saying something negative about Twilight. I have never heard of anyone from Twilight saying anything bad about True Blood. Obviously there is some jealousy going on.

All I can say is the jealousy is so obvious with this true blood actor who Ive never heard of. It doesnt matter about vampire details these are just fictional characters. I have never read a book that intriged me as the twilight novels. True blood, I watched one eposode and never watched again. Too boreing and no attractive actors.

Why is everyone making a big deal out of this? For one, he’s obviously having a laugh. Secondly, most of the time when someone talks about “Real” vampires, they’re referring to the way vampires have most often been portrayed. I happen to agree with his opinion, but that doesn’t mean we both think vampires are real and stalking the night for their next victim. Let’s face it, “Twilight” has nearly ruined vampires. I also have to add, how in the world can anyone with a sense of sight think that Robert Pattinson is hot or even a tiny bit good looking?! It boggles my mind!

Twilight is a romance novel, and romance novels range from 75 year-old duchesses being seduced by their young Latin gardeners, to vampires who glitter and want nothing but to make the woman theirs. IT IS JUST A ROMANCE NOVEL. Romance always has and always will appeal to a woman’s romantic and hopeful heart. SMeyer just did something nobody did before: aimed a romance novel at teens. Why is the WHOLE plot of Twilight sex? because, that is the plot of romance novels. There are no “modern vampires”. Twilight is its own little bubble that traps people inside while the rest of the world shakes their head sadly. I can’t wait until it’s over and done with, personally.

do you know any vampire? you cant just start talking about things that havent been proved, you know what FANTASY means? well look for it in a dictionary couse you are lack of it.. and you know what, that if its romance, or if its how ever you call it they still look better. so FD come on! and start using your imagination vampires dont exist so you are not the one who is gonna say how they should be or what should they do. if you dont like it, well ignore it, but dont start talking things that dont make sense, personally.

Just: twilight for romantics (not only for teens. NM and Eclipse for Stephenie Meyer joy, Breakind Dawn for money for Stephenie Meyer)
true blood and vampire diaries for lustful a crime passions. And there are not real vampires. If there are: we don’t know about them a thing.

Hell, True Blood by miles. They actually look like vampires instead of pretty boys/girls with fangs.

I’m pretty sure Denis was just joking around. He was also the best thing about season 3 of True Blood.

i think the twilight saga & the vampire diaries are much better than true blood. i don’t like true blood and the actors. the actors said that ’cause they ‘re jealous of twilight. c’mon vampires can do anything!, they appear in movies, they ‘re not real.

Oops. I must have missed the etiquette on “real” vampires, what they do and don’t do. Is there a handbook or something?

You are so right. As much as I love True Blood, it’s stupid to go around saying “vampires don’t sparkle.” Vampires don’t drink blood either because they aren’t REAL.

twilight is for kids/innocent/romantic teens
vampire diaries is for lustful teenagers and
true blood is for adults.

simple as that.

i mean why have the ability to live forever if you cant fang a human every now and then? thats like half the fun.
also why would you wanna be sparkling like a fairy.. thats so uncool :P

Vampirism is Christianity turned on its head. The story of Christ is a moral story about receiving eternal life through the sacrificial death of Jesus through His shed blood. Vampirism is an immoral story about receiving eternal life through the drinking of the blood of sacrificial humans. Jesus shed his blood so that others might live. Vampires shed other people’s blood so that the vampires might live.

I wonder…which story is the most popular?
