Well, I watched this video more times than I’d like to admit. There is really nothing you can conclude. To me, it seems that Tony Stewart is going at a constant speed. Kevin Ward approaches the car. Then you can no longer see Kevin Ward and the car jumps towards the side where Ward is. My hypothesis is that Ward continued to move toward Stewart’s car and the rear tire struck him. The tire was unable to rotate on the right cause the still rotating back left tire to jump the car towards Ward. It really all depends on when Ward was struck which there is no possible way to see from the video.

Constant speed? I see it and hear it accelerate. The cars are under caution and that means go slow and be aware of a potential hazard. Stewarts defenders simply can’t come to terms with the fact that his little spray message backfired. It’s not the first time someone’s tried confronting a driver by walking on a racetrack as foolish as it might be and another reason to be aware and go slow.

Watch the video again. The speed is constant until the vehicle jumps towards Ward. It may be that Stewart accelerated and that caused the jumped. Or, it may be that Ward got stuck in the right rear tire which caused the car to jump to the right as I explained. Or, it may be another explanation. I don’t support any side but wanted to express a different hypothesis that I haven’t seen yet. It is a tragedy for all.

My suggestion is to watch the video in slow motion without sound. The revving of the engine tricks our mind into thinking it is speeding up. The engine sound could have been coming from any of the cars on the track.

Okay it was probably on purpose there i said it ! He is to good a driver to be involved in an accident twice in two laps to not know what he had done ! It’s. Bulls hit to think it was just an accident and besides he put himself in.that position by his dirty driving track hog that he is!

“Probably” on purpose. There, you said it.

How can you know what was in Stewart’s mind? Judge not lest ye be judged.

The boy was a fool for jumping out of his car during a night race on a muddy track wearing a black drivers suit. Yes, a caution was out; but drivers still speed to bunch up for the restart. Unless Stewart himself admits it was his intention to run down Ward, we can only conclude that it was an accident, the result of a young man’s foolish, hot-headed behavior.

This is my last attempt at trying to help all of you to understand what it is like to drive a Sprint Car so you are not so quick to judge and sentence Tony Stewart. Yes Tony was in the middle of the track but if you notice he did swerve toward the in field, these cars do not have mirrors, it is not like driving your garden tractor while mowing your lawn. These cars weigh 1200 lbs+- and have 700HP+- that people is seriously lop sided hose power to weight ratio. Tap the accelerator and the back of the car wants to swing to the right, Tonys swung to the left. It is the way the car is designed to make left turns. I have reviewed this video at least 40-50 times if you notice car number 45 is in front of Tony Stewart, keep in mind Tony only has around 70 degrees of straight ahead vision depending on what racing seat he uses and what helmet restraint he uses also how dirty his tear away was at the time. Heck, his helmets face shield could have played a part in the tragic accident. The video shows 4 cars going well above caution speed in front of the 45 car so don’t bark about the caution. During caution at least on my home track it is common to leave around 50 feet between cars to accelerate to keep the motors cool. Anyway, my condolences go out to both the Ward family as well as Tony Stewart. They do need prayers. This sport is very exciting. If there is a race in your area sometime try it. they are usually a pretty good deal for a family.
Trish, I do believe in Biblical times they fought in arenas to the death! With sticks that had balls with pointed spikes on them and swords….etc. I think I prefer driving a Sprint Car. LOL Have a great day everyone!

It’s also not uncommon for drivers, while under caution, to spin their tires to clean off mud, dirt or debris. It appears to me that perhaps that was what Tony did when he sped up. Only Tony knows for sure, but no driver in their right mind would’ve done so to try to kick up mud on a driver on foot in the middle of the track.

The rear end of Tony’s car first fish-tails towards the outside of the curve. This is what happens when the rear wheels loose traction, say, by blipping the throttle sufficiently.

Something that Tony Stewart would be aware of.
Also people people seem to ignore the fact that the cars are capable of stopping which is what Stewart suddenly did after hitting the guy.
I’m not at all surprised he’s already back in a race car. He made a statement that he hasn’t raced for several weeks out of respect for Wards family. I wonder if he considered asking them what would be an appropriate period.

ndStephanie, please do not act as God in this situation in stating that since Tony was a cocky driver God had enough of him and said stop by having him kill a 20 yr old young man?!…Since we are made out of flesh, we ave no idea the thoughts of our God and His retributions…If you.want to blame anyone, blame NASCAR for allowing these men to get back at each other on the track. These sports like NASCAR, Baseball and especially Hockey say they do not condone bad sportsmanship but all the while, with a wink, they do allow their athletes to get back at each other on the field of play because its all about pumping up the drama and ratings. I am an ADVID sports fan but I HATE when these sports allow the athletes to go at it with each other and then they step in most of the times when someone gets hurt. I teach my children to play nice, sportsmanship and to have respect for the talent of their opponents. This world today, thinks that blood and retribution makes sports great but they are so wrong. Sportsmanship and respect for all those involved is the ultimate spectator’s thrill, seeing good clean talented athletes giving all they got and playing with heart, not tempers.
Having said all of that, In my opinion Kevin Jr should have stayed in his car which would have been the best avoidance of this terrible tragedy, but since he got out his car and he was out on a track to which there was still cars motoring around track caution or no caution, NASCAR should have made everyone stop their cars where they were to ensure his safety…but as usual this sport doesn’t take direct action unless someone gets hurt. These sports creates the so called “d**K’s” and then acts like they are shocked something like this could happen!..I don’t know Tony’s heart or attentions but I would never say he did it with malice unless concrete proof of it…I pray that Jesus would comfort Kevins family and I also pray for Tony and his family as well..

This fatality occurred as the cars were being driven under a caution. I notice some dimwits argue that the cars are steered with the throttle as if they cannot be steered unless hitting the gas to point them. Well this might be true in race mode but under caution the cars were steering around a circular track without sliding oversteer under power without a problem until Stewart decided to hit the gas and buzz the victim. No intention to harm and only to niggle but he miscalculated.
What’s the point of a caution flag? To make others aware that someone else is vulnerable on the race track. So Stewart needs to man up and take responsibility for his stupid action that resulted in someone’s death. The fans and friends of of celebrities all too often blindly support their hero’s without making them accountable for their misjudgement whether they’re sport-stars or entertainers and as a result they are forgiven for anything while others without a high profile aren’t.

Here I am again not defending Tony Stewart but trying to explain how a Open Wheel Sprint Car does function. I am a Sprint Car Driver. Depending on the track, the conditions, the weather, my cars setup, yes under a caution I do use the throttle to help steer the car. I am not saying Tony was not giving a little response to Mr. Wards finger pointing but hey who in their right mind is going to continue to walk toward a car into traffic (clearly shown in the videos). By the time Tony hits the accelerator Mr. Ward is well out of his field of vision but continues toward his car. What Mr. Wards intentions were we will never know but one thing I am sure of Tony Stewart is guilty of no crime or infraction at all. This certainly was tragic. But ask yourself this….would we even be here talking about this if Tony Stewart were not involved? I think NOT! I have a bent axle hanging on my shop wall and yes number 14 put me into the wall but I DID NOT GET OUT OF MY CAR!!!! People this kid should NEVER have gotten out of his car NEVER!!! He would still be ALIVE. Mr. Ward caused his own death by stupidity and immaturity. So put the in you pipe and smoke it. Now…put that in your pipes and smoke it!

kcspeedracer post:- , “I am not saying Tony was not giving a little response to Mr. Wards finger pointing”,

I’ll agree with that admission you don’t appear to be defending Stewart.

But then when you say he is not guilty of any crime or infraction you are defending him. Stewart didn’t have to send a little message. He could have observed the caution like everyone else.

Everyone else steered past observing caution without hitting the gas Stewart didn’t.

This is exactly what Stewart needs to own up to and take responsibility for.

Sure you can blame the other guy for doing what others have done in the past as well by approaching competitors still in their cars but this doesn’t dismiss Stewart’s culpability as his fans and supporters hope it does.

I’m sure if the roles were reversed these same people would defend Stewart with my argument.

and those that HATE the celebs. will undoubtedly find fault in any and everything they do. as you are now doing to Tony Stewart. Don’t you think this is hurting Tony’s soul too? He took another mans life. I am NOT a Stewart fan, but right is right wrong is wrong and they were BOTH wrong that fateful night. Kevin had no business getting out of his car whatsoever. It’s clear he was trying to be a bigger shot than Tony, and unfortunately it cost him his life. you say Stewart needs to man up and admit his wrong doing, Don’t you think Kevin’s family needs to do the same? I feel bad for them truly, but he should have stayed in his car. I never got out of my car till told it was safe to do so.

As to hating celebs. Whether it was Tiger Woods saying how his family was first and foremost in importance and getting acclaimed as a role model just days before the real Tiger is exposed or Lance Armstrong making that “That those don’t dare to dream big I feel sorry for you” speech after having destroyed the dreams and lives of many others. Whether it’s this stupid Justin Bieber kid and those other entertainment celebrities constantly going in to rehab with behaviour issues there is an epidemic amongst many in not taking responsibility for their actions. Along with all these over indulged personalities you have a society craving superficial reality shows and defending their pumped up hero’s without questioning their shortcomings. If these people are to be seen as deserving role models then they should be required to live up to it or brought down.

Warren: I’m the first to hold accountable those celebrities who hold themselves above the rest of society. I won’t watch a Christian Bale movie because of his seven minute tirade directed at someone offset during the filming of one of his Batman movies because the guy moved and caused him to break character. He later apologized after the recording when viral on YouTube, offering some lame excuse about what a terrible day he was having. Yeah, $20M a picture and he’s having a bad day, while millions of Americans are out of work and living on the streets. An apology with an excuse is no apology at all.

But really? How does this fit in with Ward’s death? I’m sure that Stewart would’ve been held accountable had the investigation revealed some intent on his part. You find Stewart at fault because he’s a celebrity? That’s ludicrous.

I don’t know what video everbody else is watching but Stewart was intentionally trying to scare Ward by hitting the throttle which caused the car to hit Ward. I wish everybody would use common sense…… I would hope that NO human being would be this cruel, but the video tells it all. Stewart should be held accountable and should be ban from ever sitting in a race car again!

I agree…
Tony ( Highly experience Pro level Driver.) DID intend to intimidate this younger driver.
Perhaps he did miscalculate, BUT, the result is death to another human being.
MURDER by premeditated action to intimidate.
Tony Stewart deserves to go to prison. I am a NASCAR fan and all drivers have their
good points and bad. I have no prejudice for or against any drivers.

To hit and shove another car is one thing…But to hit another Human Being… (Sic)
HOWEVER, This IS MANSLAUGHTER. !!! Tony Stewart deserves to go to prison.
Even those who are fascinated by Tony Stewart must recognize his negative intentions….
Every driver on the track simply drove past Ward. Stewart was the only person to hit Ward’s
body and kill him And Stewart is the one and only person who ran Ward into the wall.
Go FIGURE……

Kevin Ward could’ve avoided it, too, had he stayed in his car. Muddy track night race, poor visibility, he’s in a black driver suit and decides to hop out of his car? Stewart, I’m pretty sure, didn’t intentionally run this kid down. Ward’s parents are grieving and they’re angry at Stewart. Hopefully, in time, they’ll come to conclude their son’s role in his own death.

They’re all hotheads, Jimmie Johnson and Jeff Gordon included. They, too, have put other drivers into a wall. Dale Earnhardt, Sr. was known as The Intimidator for his driving tactics, and he’s in NASCAR’s hall of fame.

It was a muddy track, and even if Stewart did push Ward into the wall, who really was the hothead? Stewart, or Ward for climbing out of his car on slick track at night wearing a black driver suit to point a finger at a speeding car? I’ll say it again, this was avoidable had the kid but stayed in his car.

My heart goes out to the family of Kevin Ward Jr. But the fact remains that accidents do occur in racing when you move at high rates of speed. I have seen the video repeatedly and it does not look as though Tony swerved to intentionally hit Kevin Ward. The fact is that Kevin Ward Jr is solely responsible for stepping out of his car and onto the track into oncoming traffic. It was simply an unfortunate accident and Kevin Ward in fact caused his own death because of his own stupidity. Kevin’s aunt should apologize to Tony for calling him a dick when the true dick in this situation was her very own nephew. I say Tony should not face any charges as he has to live with the fact of what this Kevin caused.

I am a firm believer that you are only allowed to do certain things, be a certain way, and live a certain way before God will intervene and show you you just who God is. If you are a racecar driver that enjoys wrecking people, putting them in the wall, doing whatever it takes to win that race at the expense of others….do you believe that God is approving of that?
Do you believe that God will not eventually put a stop to it all?
I have seen Tony Stewarts racing and i know that he is cocky, arrogant, and thinks of no one other than himsself when he is on the race track or any track for that matter. I also know that Tony enjoys shutting people up without saying a word or engaging in the use of physical contact.
What better way to show up Kevin Ward Jr. than to throw a little dirt in his face?
I know that hitting him was not part of the plan. All other cars on that track managed to avoid this kid except you Tony! Who would stomp the gas when all cars were at caution speed? Who would take the highest part of the track where Kevin Ward was instead of the lowest part to avoid him?
Tony is devestated right now…he is having such a difficult time with this……
In my opinion had this been a true “I didn’t see you” accident.
You would be upset, however you would also know that there was nothing you could have done to avoid this tragedy, and your words of regret and sympathy wouldn’t have to be rehearsed.
My point is that God will allow you to be a certain way until he says enough is enough.
Your years of racing dirty and being that arrogant person you are has finally caught up to you.
You made a choice to do what you have always done only this time it has back fired in your face. You may not face criminal charges, and if you don’t then that is God’s plan as well, however you will not be able to live and function knowing what you did to this child and his family.
You are a grown man Tony Stewart….this was a young inexperienced kid that was a little hot headed…..you could have allowed him to throw his tantrum and continued up the track…..instead you had to do what you have always done……and now look at the aftermath.
i pray that you get no rest until you own up and confess to all invoved what your intentions were that night.

What about grace my friend, what about this Christianease statement 1 finger pointed at Tony and thee other 3 pointed back at yourself. God be with you who seem to have taken that right seat next to the Father and booted Jesus Christ off. I’ve watched Tony race through his whole career seen an arsehole grow as a man and although its up to the DA what happens to Tony. I will say Tony ran out of room on a dirt mind you dirt track and like Mr Ward was there to try and win. Sadly Kevin got out of his car to point at Tony and give it to him. The other driver were near Kevin because he was waiting for Tony. The sadly was very dumb. If you want to continue your mindset you make get relieved by the one who’s will you seem to know. You have your way of thinking and so do I…. ran out of track??? Really???? We all know what took place here. My main point is two lives were destroyed here. If I hear one more time that Kevin should have stayed in his car im going to be sick. This was a kid, 20 years old….Tony is so much more experienced…..there is no excuse for his behavior.
Please do not go there with me on the God subject…..I know that we are human and know all about grace….I was left for dead and know our God gives mercy, grace, everlasting love and forgiveness….and normally I do not get involved in conversations such as this….but the video is out there…..only God and Tony knows what his thoughts were that day…..the truth will always prevail….and regardless…Tony has to make it right with God not man….. everyone has an opiniin its not called judging….I am in no way worthy of even comjng close to the amazing God we serve however I am of the flesh, so are you….God is not man he is perfect! God will also cease wrong doing as he sees fit….. get in that good book before you lash out at me about using your God…..incase you have forgotten we all serve the same God….. There comes a time when a person needs to grow up and leave childish ways behind….its called being a man. Unfortunately Kevin Ward Jr. Will never get that chance….the most experienced driver on that track everyone else misses him and your boy Tony hits him…..purpose or not he should be held accountable for his actions.

How do you know what was in Tony’s heart and head that night? You speak as if you were there in the cockpit with him, in his head.

Jimmie Johnson and Jeff Gordon and Dale Earnhardt and a host of other NASCAR drivers are not above bump drafting someone out of their way to get to the winner’s circle. They call it “racing.” But when someone does it to them, it’s dirty.

I doubt very much there was intent on Tony Stewart’s part to run Ward down; but you know, how? Did God tell you?

It is tragedy that this took place and has taken the life of a young man. And I say a young man, because that is what he was before this accident. Sometimes accident are just what they are an accident. It’s common to try to point the blame in one direction but it comes a time people need to be accountable for their oun actions. I’m not a big Tony fan but I don’t think announcing to the world that Tony was trying to prove a point is a speculation. The truth is with the two videos I have seen the only people that really know what took place is Tony, Kevin and God. The facts are if Tony and Kevin did not race that night Kevin may still be with us, but that not what happen. If Kevin did not walk down the track he may still be with us, but that didn’t happen either. We should all embrace and pray for Kevin’s love ones that God will see them through this and make them stronger.

Thank you,
