This is so sad. Little Leah Shirley has been made a ward of the state after her parents, Amber Portwood and Gary Shirley appeared in an Indiana courthouse today.
We hate to say it but we saw this coming. A judge ruled today that Teen Mom star Amber Portwood‘s daughter Leah, 2, is now a ward of the state. Amber, 20, and her baby daddy, Gary Shirley, appeared in an Anderson, Indiana, courthouse today for an emergency child placement hearing concerning their daughter. RadarOnline.com reports that this means that the Department of Child Services will now be overseeing Leah’s well-being, even though she is technically staying with her father. Shortly after the hearing, DCS reportedly escorted Amber to Gary’s house, so that she could have a one-hour visitation with Leah. The meeting was supervised by the DCS who have placed a six-month monitoring period on Amber following her assault on Gary, which was filmed by MTV cameras while little Leah was present.
The assault resulted in domestic violence charges being filed against Amber, who recently gave Leah to Gary in the belief that her daughter would be better off with him now. DCS has also been investigating Leah’s living situation at Gary’s house and has asked that certain changes be made. This isn’t the first time Amber has been in the public eye for her parenting skills. She has been caught drinking underage, was filmed physically assaulting the father of her child, then boyfriend Gary Shirley and now is dating a mixed martial arts fighter who is known to like to drink and fight. We wish the best for baby Leah and hope the courts can decide what is truly best for her.
