Photos! Why Can't Miley Cyrus Be More Like Selena Gomez? She's Talented, Successful & She Keeps Her Clothes On!

Unlike Miley, 18-year-old Selena has achieved success on TV and in music WITHOUT resorting to stripping!

Selena Gomez turns 18 today, which officially makes her a part of the Disney-kids-turned-adults crowd, following in the illustrious footsteps of former Mouseketeers like Britney Spears and Lindsay Lohan. The difference? Selena has managed to make the leap gracefully, fully clothed and scandal-free. Miley Cyrus, who has been equal parts scandalous and scantily-clad as of late, should take note of Selena’s path.

Miley and Selena both have hot music careers, but there’s a key difference in how they’re using their music to relate to their fans. While Selena is content to release fun songs she knows her fans will enjoy, Miley is totally isolating her fans by putting out “edgier” music with the sole purpose of changing her image from squeaky clean to “untamable.” And numbers don’t lie. Sales for Miley’s new album, Can’t Be Tamed, are significantly lower than her previous albums, and critics say it all has to do with her image.

Miley’s desire to be accepted as an adult led to outrageous acts, including feeling herself up during a concert and simulating a girl-on-girl kiss on more than one occasion. This quest has totally backfired, bringing her nothing but negative attention.

The ladies of The View asked Selena for her thoughts on Miley’s behavior when she appeared on the show July 21 to promote her new movie, Ramona and Beezus:

“It’s all about what you want to do in your career,” she said. “I’m 18, but I still feel like I’m 15 and 16, so I’m not comfortable doing anything I wouldn’t feel right doing. I would love to continue to have my fan base. They’ve been with me for four years. They mean the world to me.”

There you have it, folks. Selena values her fans and knows she wouldn’t be anywhere without them, whereas Miley has clearly adopted a “thanks for getting me here, but screw you” attitude for her new album.
